In Which the Overlord Has the Least Subtle De-age Ever [Open]

Another day in the Overlord's Fortress.

Today, Zetta sat in his throne lazily, feet up on the most freaking sweet ottoman in creation, grinding out a few levels of the freaking sweet new game he'd picked up on XaXing (Nuclear Death Apocalypse Extravaganza: The Annihilation of All Mankind: Tactics) on his freaking 99" widescreen TV.

Yeah, he'd gone pretty wild at XaXing, to judge from the various tapestries and banner's now hanging on the walls, the statues positioned in key places around the fortress courtyard, the sapling planted in one corner that visibly distorted time around it, and various and sundry other luxury goods.

Oh yeah, and he apparently had a body. What's up with that?

[[OOC: So, uh, since Zetta's de-age is, as noted, as subtle as the Overlord himself, and we don't want an obvious reveal too soon, it would be appreciated if any characters who wander by not run off to tell lots of important people quite yet. ^.^ ]]

"Oh, everybody blames stupid magic, just because they don't know what to call it yet. I won't rule that out, but maybe we should see if other people are, I dunno, all changed and stuff like the Overlord. It could be some kind of virus."

"I don't have a freaking virus! How would a virus even affect a book and turn it into a demon?!"

Amazingly, he might actually have a point here.

"If I was under a curse or effect, I'd see it on my status screen anyway. It's perfectly clear, so!"

"Well then what do you think's going on here then?" Ruff didn't really see the point of speculation except just because if he was forgetting things she might start and that wouldn't do! She liked what she knew.

"I think he might have gotten into something on the trip. Why the hell else would he forget something that we all obviously know? And I'm pretty sure if WE forgot anything, we'd know about each other, right? You still remember Berk and dragons and shit, and I remember my own fucked up world."

"I'm not on drugs, for Magog's sake!" Zetta said, looking up as he lifted his hands in open contortions of frustrations.

"Well..." Ruffnut put a hand to her chin thoughtfully, "I guess it's not really hurting anything even if we don't know what caused it. But if you're back to normal don't you have enough power to ya know...find the Ohm and kick their asses now?"

Hit girl made a face. "WEll, NOW it doesn't matter, yeah. But what about later? What if this, y'know, DOES something to him or whatever? Maybe we shoudl look into this, ask one of those Council douches..."

Her voice trailed off when she looked at the Overlord. "Oh yeah."

He lifted one finger. "First of all, where the hell is the Sacred Tome? Right now that's the most important thing. Without that there's no way to wish everything back that the Ohm destroyed. And second..." There's the second finger, remarkably enough. "I don't have my Netherworld, so I don't have a good way to go across universes quickly. It's possible to do it alone, but not fun or pleasant, and I don't know where to look for them."

"Well..." Ruffnut was clearly straining her logic capacity to find a solution here, "If you're not the Sacred Tome anymore...then maybe if we retrace your steps we'll find it." She paused and added, "Or it's gone forever because you're back to normal." Either way they were screwed. "She's probably right. We need someone who understands magic better." Because it was always magic. Things go wrong, had to be magic.

"Retrace your-see, this is starting to make less and less sense! We shouldn't have to retrace his steps! If it was something normal of course the Overlord wouldn't forget about it! Something is going on here, so we have to find out what the fuck is going on."

She nodded. "Magical Department then, we'll go see N-Nana-uh, Nanu nanu or whatever."

"Oh yeah, adding MORE teenage girls to this mess is the solution. Why are you so freaked out over this? I feel fantastic! What's the downside?"

He just didn't get the worry here.

"What if you change back though? I mean...without knowing what happened how can we be sure you're gonna stay this way?"

BAM! And a surprising point of logic from Ruffnut. If this were a drinking game you'd probably empty your glass.

"And if this is just the beginning of something worse. You know how this fucking ship is, its one thing after another. And there's nothing wrong with Numa Numa, she knows her stuff."

She nodded in Ruffnut's direction. Thank goodness they were on the same page.

The Overlord held out his hands, palms out. "Brakes. We're not going crawling to the magic department just because something MAY be weird here. I'm still the freaking Overlord, and I'm clearly doing just fine. If it starts getting worse MAYBE we'll consider it."

"You're the boss, boss." Ruff shrugged her interest quickly running out. "But if you forget who I am I reserve the right to sock you in the face."

Hit Girl rolled her eyes. Idiot. She was the type that HAD to think long term, not always short. She'd been thinking short term before and that got her dad killed. She wasn't likely to trust ANY stroke of luck she didn't see for herself and know how it happened.

"If it gets worse, it might be harder to fix," Hit Girl said, "but whatever. I refuse to play mommy for this shit. If it was ME, or RUFF, you would be saying the same thing."

"I'm not going to forget you two," the Overlord said in a quiet growl. More obnoxiously and more himself, he continued, "Of COURSE if it was you two I'd be saying something. You're my disciples, that makes you my responsibility! I'm no one's responsibility but my own!"

"Feh." Ruffnut snorted "You're our responsibility because without you who's gonna teach us dumbbutt."

"Yeah, if something happens to you, that means you're going to keep me saddled to this one. You know how flighty she is."

Though, out of the corner of her eye, she gave the viking a wink.

"You two are practically joined at the hip right now anyway," Zetta pointed out.

"What do you mean?" Ruff asked oblivious and looked to Mindy and then back to the Overlord. Perhaps it hadn't dawned on her that she had been spending at least a little time every day if not lots of time hanging around with Mindy.

Hit Girl thought a moment. "Yeah, I guess, sometimes. But we wouldn't be if it wasn't for you, right? So we should look after you a little."

"I'm a 35,000-year-old demon Overlord!" Zetta protested. "I don't NEED looking after! What the hell could happen to me?!"

"Are you kidding? This ship has a way of getting through even demons. Why do you think just because you're an Overlord that won't affect you?"
