Shore leave, an opportune time for testing as any![Closed]
It had taken many months to get to this stage, gathering the materials, constructing and aligning each individual part, the long process of linking crystals. Now the project that had taken much of her time and effort since she had first began its construction not long after the battle of Zokez II, near six months past. The paired gateway system, a device that would(if all went to plan) connect two points in space to allow near instantaneous travel between the two locations, something that would greatly aid in evacuations.
With Stacy now soundly situated in real-space, Celena decided that the current moment was the most opportune moment to commence the first tests of the system in the conditions that it was most likely to be utilized, as well as being free from possible interference travel through bleed would have on such gates as the device formed. Thus the two halves of the device and Celena stood in the centre of the park in the City aboard Stacy.
Celena herself stood in her Elven form by the primary and larger half of the device, consisting of a large base plate, numerous crystals embedded in the surface. Extending to one side and raised was the red lit, holographic control panel whose display’s Celena herself was looking over critically. Atop the center of the device seven identical crystals with a red hue lay suspended in a close knit circle above an indentation in the device. Attached to the side of the main base plate was the large power supply and converter that Tenaya had constructed for her, the power from which would be used to power and sustain the gateway portal between the two halves.
The other half and far more portable of the two, sat one hundred feet away. Consisting of an identical ring of crystals to the first half, a holder and foldable base, the device was small enough that Celena could carry it easily in a single paw, or easily carried by a human sized individual.
Having alerted those of whom the testing would be most relevant she waited. While she didn’t want to take up too much of their time, especially with Shore leave going on, she couldn’t pass up the rare opportunity she would have to test the device.
[[OOC: This post is for those she's alerted to the testing here and any they decide to bring along, if you've any questions feel free to IM me. Will set up a sub-threads for the appropriate sections of testing as things go along.]

Arrivals

The dragon dropped out of the sky, then spoke the necessary words to shift to elven form some dozen feet above Celena. Of course his daily casting of Overland Flight meant he landed behind her lightly, rather than splattering.
If she hadn't noticed him then, she probably did when he slid an arm around her waist as he peered over her shoulder.

"Hello you, just going through a few last minute checks while we wait," she greeted and commented with a warm smile over her shoulder to him.

"Complete synchronization between the gate rings, all the systems are showing nominal thus far, all ready to go once the others arrive,"

"Otherwise, for the range testing I will need someone to take the portable gate to another spot in the city to test range during the test, if you would be up for the task?"
no subject
He made a show of pouting. "Oh, sending me away, hmm?" The effect was ruined by the gleam in his eyes, and he knew it. "Easily done."
no subject
The pouting merely drew a chuckle, "Hardly, after all if the gateway works properly you'd be as nearby as any of the others," She replies with a smirk.

Re: Arrivals
"Let's get this thing started," she said with a grin.
Re: Arrivals
"It's all ready to run, just running a few last minute checks while waiting for people to arrive," She gave a gesture to the holographic control panel, "Want to have a look over it?"
Re: Arrivals
She walked over to the control panel and checked the readouts. "Energy levels in the green, everything's running smoothly. As for the rest? Looks like an impressive setup."
Re: Arrivals
Taking a step aside so that Tenaya could get the best look over the control panel she gave a dip of her head at the compliment, "Thank you, it's been some time in the making, the others should be arriving soon,"

Guess who hasn't seen her Elven form before
When he arrived, he saw a familiar face or two, but where was Celena? He saw a dragon, but the markings indicated that wasn't her. Who was the woman?
"Hello? Celena?" Maybe she'd already ported herself elsewhere.
Re: Guess who hasn't seen her Elven form before
Looking up at her name being called she stood from her inspections and turned to give him a wave, "Billy! Glad you could make it, sorry if I caught you in the middle of something," She greeted and commented as she noticed the bag in his arms. Walking easily across the intervening distance, noting the confusion he'd shown initially, after all she hadn't been in her elven form around her. "It's me don't worry, something Aibghalien made for me, allows me to shift between this form and my true form," raising a hand to show the ornate ring.

When that was said, he peeked at the gateway. "I'm sorry I haven't been more involved. I have related experience, but that teleportation system had the misfortune of both being more complex and existing on a stable Earth, making my knowledge not quite as transferable."
no subject
Celena gave a shake of her head with a smile as she motioned him toward the gateway, "It's fine, the design itself is primarily based off the technology of my own people, though I would be very interested in hearing of your own experiences with such things," Leading him over she stood by the control panel, "Feel free to take a closer look if you'd like,"
no subject
No, he didn't mean that, actually---to blend in among humanoids or to fly when the situation warranted it was a tremendous advantage! He always had his car to fly in and his morphing disguise, but to change species was a remarkable feat. The brain and senses shifted fundamentally. How exciting that was.
He knelt to examine the power crystals, nodding in approval. "It's definitely going to need power. My world had a similar power source, but it extended across the globe. I accidentally tapped into its power when trying to build a communications network, thus creating our teleportation system, but I've learned far more about its function since."
The controls almost felt familiar to him, he noted with a nostalgic smile. "Our source was so powerful that we could teleport from one point to any other point, but for our purposes and limitations the gateway is more appropriate."
How he wished he could teleport across the City, though. That would be useful!
no subject
Indeed, Celena herself had realized the sheer potential even just the polymorph provided by the ring presented. Combined with her own abilities with disguise and illusion, she could easily present herself as near any humanoid form without having to worry about anyone running into her larger draconic form.
She stood by as Billy examined the device and controls, nodding as he spoke, "Indeed, and thanks to Tenaya we should have more than enough power to sustain the gateway's created by the device," To what extent and for how long those portals would hold was yet to be determined, after all that's what this testing would be for. A curious look as given as Billy explained how he had creating the teleportation system, "That must be a vast power source to be able to do so,"
Teleporting across the city would be quite useful, though she would have to experiment with the effects of the bleed on the gates, after all it wouldn't do to have it malfunction while in use.
no subject
He looked back up at her once his inspection was complete, very satisfied. This would be a start! "Still, thanks to you we have a starting point. Let's see what we can do with it!"
no subject
Celena gave a grin as he finished his inspection, indeed it was a start. As long as these tests proved successful it could prove to be of great use. "We should be able to get a good idea today just what should be capable with the gates while in real-space,"
((OOC: The Testing sub-thread is set up below!))

Ah, well. Wouldn't be the first time an elf and a dragon got together.
Amused, he walked over to the two, "I see you found a way to handle the anatomy differences. Polymorph?"
no subject
...hey, what did he mean by 'didn't think she would return it' anyway?!
no subject
"Good to see you, Kang," She greeted with a light grin, no need to worry there Aibghalien, she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Commencement of Testing
"Everything's ready, time to get things started," She commented before turning to the others, "The first few tests will involve the stability and power drain of the formed gateway, at first small sizes then moving up to greater diameters," She explained as she dialed up the gate size as she spoke in way to emphasize what she was to do. "Should these tests prove successful, tests will be run on the transmission of objects through the Gates at the different sizes, from there if no substantial problems have been encountered we will conduct a minor test on the operational range of the Gateway device, Aibghalien will take the portable Gate, deactivated of course, to another location within the city,"
Dialing the size back down to the two foot gate size, "Any questions before we begin?"

"Activating the gateway, here goes," with that she tapped the control that would finalize the activation of the gateway system. The reaction within the system was obvious, spreading from the lowermost crystal of the Gate itself a beam of red light connected to the next crystals along, spreading the course of less than a second until it formed a solid ring of red energy. As soon as that connection formed a field of energy rushed inwards to the center of the device until it formed a cloudy reddish field for a fraction of a second before it seemed to clear away from the center out, in actual fact it was now showing exactly what could be seen if one were standing on by the other Gateway. The opposite side of the formed portal was still that same cloudy red field as could be seen when looking toward the portable half of the device. The entire process of forming the Gateway portal had taken just over a second.
Celena couldn't help but grin at that, "Gateway formed," She confirmed as she checked over the readings, it seemed stable. "Testing the transmission of an object, check the readings as I do," She commented with a glance over to them as she picked a suitably sized rock from where she'd placed it, walking to stand by the open portal she cast it carefully it through. From her point of view the rock sailing through even as a hundred feet away it sailed out the other end to roll to a stop.

"Looks like you have a success on your hands," he said, though one of her hands also briefly had one of his own giving it a proud squeeze.

She hated being a killjoy, but it was a fair question. Better to get any remaining flaws taken care of as soon as possible than wait for them to become problems down the line.

Gesturing to a small plant nearby, she gently uprooted it with a bit of telekinesis before having it float slowly toward the portal, watching carefully as she floated it through and then back again. Examining the plant, "There does not appear to be any immediate damage," Setting the plant down carefully where the others could examine it before disengaging the portal.
Increasing the diameter of the gate to a more usable size, one that a human could walk through with ease. "Testing increased gate size, engaging gateway," and with that she did so, the ring gates once more connecting in unison as the portal interfaces formed and resolved. The readings would be much the same bar an increased amount of power as well as a minor fluctuation in readings initially before stabilizing once more.

This was as close as he could get to 'send me through!'. Truthfully, it felt rather weird; to have lived for a thing as abstract as a kingdom meant nothing, in comparison, to when one had a person to live for.
Seems his days of wild risk-taking were, if not over, somewhat diminished. He had no regrets!
