Shore leave, an opportune time for testing as any![Closed]

It had taken many months to get to this stage, gathering the materials, constructing and aligning each individual part, the long process of linking crystals. Now the project that had taken much of her time and effort since she had first began its construction not long after the battle of Zokez II, near six months past. The paired gateway system, a device that would(if all went to plan) connect two points in space to allow near instantaneous travel between the two locations, something that would greatly aid in evacuations.

With Stacy now soundly situated in real-space, Celena decided that the current moment was the most opportune moment to commence the first tests of the system in the conditions that it was most likely to be utilized, as well as being free from possible interference travel through bleed would have on such gates as the device formed. Thus the two halves of the device and Celena stood in the centre of the park in the City aboard Stacy.

Celena herself stood in her Elven form by the primary and larger half of the device, consisting of a large base plate, numerous crystals embedded in the surface. Extending to one side and raised was the red lit, holographic control panel whose display’s Celena herself was looking over critically. Atop the center of the device seven identical crystals with a red hue lay suspended in a close knit circle above an indentation in the device. Attached to the side of the main base plate was the large power supply and converter that Tenaya had constructed for her, the power from which would be used to power and sustain the gateway portal between the two halves.

The other half and far more portable of the two, sat one hundred feet away. Consisting of an identical ring of crystals to the first half, a holder and foldable base, the device was small enough that Celena could carry it easily in a single paw, or easily carried by a human sized individual.

Having alerted those of whom the testing would be most relevant she waited. While she didn’t want to take up too much of their time, especially with Shore leave going on, she couldn’t pass up the rare opportunity she would have to test the device.

[[OOC: This post is for those she's alerted to the testing here and any they decide to bring along, if you've any questions feel free to IM me. Will set up a sub-threads for the appropriate sections of testing as things go along.]

This whole flying thing took on an entirely different tone on a planet!

The dragon dropped out of the sky, then spoke the necessary words to shift to elven form some dozen feet above Celena. Of course his daily casting of Overland Flight meant he landed behind her lightly, rather than splattering.

If she hadn't noticed him then, she probably did when he slid an arm around her waist as he peered over her shoulder.

"If I'm distracting you, let me know," he said, looking down at her work curiously. The fields of science remained largely a mystery to him, being as he had countless centuries of advancement in the field to absorb no matter how inflated his intellect, and its use in combination with the mystic intrigued him.

"I love it when you talk dirty to me too," he said teasingly. "Anything you need me to do?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Most of mine focus on purely magical portals, funnily enough," he said. "I have a few options, but I'd usually just toss a dispel for something like that and call it a day. Containment would be easy enough though."

He made a show of pouting. "Oh, sending me away, hmm?" The effect was ruined by the gleam in his eyes, and he knew it. "Easily done."

"This is why I don't go anywhere without a wall spell or two memorized." He pressed a kiss into her hair. "Just let me know what you want and I'll do it."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I wonder if I could teach you how to craft a wall of force magically," he mused. "I know you can come very close to that already, but the completed form is one of the most impervious spells imaginable. Chalk that up to a future plan!"

Tenaya made her way over, feeling pretty excited about the test. She'd put a lot of time into the power source, and seeing the whole thing come together and work was definitely something to look forward to.

"Let's get this thing started," she said with a grin.

"Not taking any chances," Tenaya agreed.

She walked over to the control panel and checked the readouts. "Energy levels in the green, everything's running smoothly. As for the rest? Looks like an impressive setup."

"After all that, I can't wait to see it in action," Tenaya answered, honestly and without attitude for once.
morphitudinous: (I don't know you)

Guess who hasn't seen her Elven form before

Billy finally skidded to a halt upon reaching the testing facility---having started rather far from the transport back to the ship, he was late and he knew it. It was so fast that he hadn't even had a chance to set down the bag of gifts in his arms.

When he arrived, he saw a familiar face or two, but where was Celena? He saw a dragon, but the markings indicated that wasn't her. Who was the woman?

"Hello? Celena?" Maybe she'd already ported herself elsewhere.
morphitudinous: (This is incredible)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-04-13 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so there she was. Billy set his bag aside and smiled at her, strolling up to the work zone. "That's incredible. I guess you've both been exploring new forms," he looked up at the dragon in wonder. "It must be wonderful."

When that was said, he peeked at the gateway. "I'm sorry I haven't been more involved. I have related experience, but that teleportation system had the misfortune of both being more complex and existing on a stable Earth, making my knowledge not quite as transferable."

Billy looked fascinated by it. "It must be a powerful spell. There's so much potential in the application."

No, he didn't mean that, actually---to blend in among humanoids or to fly when the situation warranted it was a tremendous advantage! He always had his car to fly in and his morphing disguise, but to change species was a remarkable feat. The brain and senses shifted fundamentally. How exciting that was.

He knelt to examine the power crystals, nodding in approval. "It's definitely going to need power. My world had a similar power source, but it extended across the globe. I accidentally tapped into its power when trying to build a communications network, thus creating our teleportation system, but I've learned far more about its function since."

The controls almost felt familiar to him, he noted with a nostalgic smile. "Our source was so powerful that we could teleport from one point to any other point, but for our purposes and limitations the gateway is more appropriate."

How he wished he could teleport across the City, though. That would be useful!

"It was. A biofield of energy spanning an entire planet, feeding our powers. Some residual energy is left for my morpher, but it's nowhere near enough for that purpose."

He looked back up at her once his inspection was complete, very satisfied. This would be a start! "Still, thanks to you we have a starting point. Let's see what we can do with it!"
governorkang: (Having fun)

Kang had no idea who the elf woman was at first, not having seen Celena polymorphed before. The dragon that showed up, turned into Aibghalien, and put an arm around her waist clued him in immediately, though. He knew about the wizard's interest, but he hadn't thought that she would return it.

Ah, well. Wouldn't be the first time an elf and a dragon got together.

Amused, he walked over to the two, "I see you found a way to handle the anatomy differences. Polymorph?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course," Aibghalien said. "I even made some rings that will do the job for us and save us that little grief of the duration either being twenty minutes or a whole week."

...hey, what did he mean by 'didn't think she would return it' anyway?!

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm ready when you are," the elf said confidently.

[identity profile] neverwastenaya.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Let's do this," Tenaya added, crossing her arms with an anticipating grin.
morphitudinous: (Adorkable's the word)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-04-15 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Affirmative!" Billy gave the thumbs up, monitoring the action with all the readings he could fix his eyes on.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
He watched the process curiously, doing his best to unobtrusively peer into the portal. When the rock disappeared, then reappeared properly, he grinned.

"Looks like you have a success on your hands," he said, though one of her hands also briefly had one of his own giving it a proud squeeze.

[identity profile] neverwastenaya.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Definitely looks good," Tenaya agreed, "but you're sure it's going to work on anything organic, right? Most of the people we evacuate usually aren't made of rock."

She hated being a killjoy, but it was a fair question. Better to get any remaining flaws taken care of as soon as possible than wait for them to become problems down the line.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-04-21 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"If it helps I could cast a summoning spell," Aibghalien said. "There's no interference to prevent that, and even if the creatures are injured by the transition that will be undone as soon as the duration of the spell elapses."

This was as close as he could get to 'send me through!'. Truthfully, it felt rather weird; to have lived for a thing as abstract as a kingdom meant nothing, in comparison, to when one had a person to live for.

Seems his days of wild risk-taking were, if not over, somewhat diminished. He had no regrets!
