The Man With The Plans [Closed]

It's taken longer than he thought it would to get everything planned and written up, but Paco's got a mind to throw that party he and Tony had been talking about for ages. The only thing he needs now is "adult permission", just so no one gets cranky about the Great Wall of China getting used as a movie screen. Or about any of the other shenanigans an outside-of-the-Sensioriums party might get up to.

So he was going a-hunting for the highest authority figure on board without tentacles for his permission -- well, his permission for the party and to run a completely different idea past him, just to see what he said.

Captain Kennedy, your favorite one-armed El Pasoean is looking for you.

Paco, pray Jaime never loses an arm, otherwise you'll be dropped to the number 2 spot.

Leon was in the Precinct, borrowing the firing range for a little bit. He wanted some time to better familiarize himself with the GIA weapons. The plasma weapons dealt a fair bit of damage, but for someone used to handling ballistic weaponry, the lack of any kind of kickback was somewhat disconcerting. If it weren't for the flash of light each time, he'd probably never know anything happened when he pulled the trigger.

You might want to wait until he's between mowing down targets to interrupt him, though, Paco.

Jaime was always everyone's favorite. That was why he got the special spine hugs.

Paco poked his head into the shooting range and, spotting his target, entered the room and shut the door behind him. He walked away from the door, making sure to make some noise so that he didn't accidentally sneak up on the cop armed with an alien laser and plopped down on a bench to wait.

He might not do too well in school, but Paco wasn't stupid.

Leon was almost done, as the mess of half burnt and destroyed targets would attest. When he was done, he lowered the weapon, ejecting the battery pack and placing it on the table. He glanced over his shoulder to see who had entered, and paused a minute when he spotted Paco, of all people.

"Mr. Guzmán..." someone he, admittedly, didn't expect. "What brings you here?"

Paco grinned and hopped to his feet.

"Had a couple things I figured I should get your input on as Captain of the Tentacle Ship," he said. "I only need a couple minutes, max, of your valuable time."

Well, now he had three questions, but "can I shoot the alien zap gun" could probably be asked of Kang instead.

It would be better if that was asked of Kang. Leon wouldn't hand over a weapon to anyone who called it a 'zap gun'.

And speaking of said gun, he placed it on the table. You now have his undivided attention Paco, make it count.

"I'm listening."

"Thing the first," Paco said, holding up his metal index finger. "The rest of Have Some Freakin' Fun and I have been talking about having a party outside the Sensoriums. We got our contacts in Engineering to whip us up a projector that we can hook up to one of the omnicoms so we can project a movie on the Great Wall down in the City, we've got music, all that good stuff. Since there also might be drinking involved, figured I ought to ask you for the okay." He grinned again. "We promise to make sure no one gets too drunk and wanders off to God-knows-where or anything. That work for you?"

There was a look at the idea of using the Great Wall of China as a movie screen, though after a moment of consideration he he shrugged off that concern.

"Just make sure to get one or two adults to act as ~~your designated sober bastards~~ chaperones, and you'll be fine."

"Hey, don't give me the look, someone else suggested it," Paco said, holding up his hands. "I was going to use that one barn down there, but it turns out Ax lives in it."

But permission-but-with-chaperons was still permission, so... "Awesome, thanks. Question two: What are your thoughts on making Have Some Freaking Fun an official department? I'm even willing to find an adult to be my co-head and, if I absolutely have to, change the name to "Crew Morale"." He shrugged nonchalantly and raised his eyebrows at the captain. "We're pretty much doing the job anyway, so I thought I'd ask."

Leon gave that notion some considerable thought.

"No. Not as an independent department. But, talk to Dr. Henderson, and if he's amicable, you can act as a sub department in Medical along with the shrinks, helping to look after the crew's mental well being.

"Functionally, it would be the same thing, just with a bit more oversight." Because unofficially leaving Paco to his own devices was fine. Letting him do so with some genuine authority? ....not so much, no. "Not to mention that if you can get one of the Docs to cosign on it, you can literally prescribe that someone stop working and have fun." ~~And the day you try to prescribe that to Leon, you're fired.~~

Aww Captain Kennedy, you really do care!

Paco gave Leon a thumbs up. "I'll do that, sir. Want me to keep you in the loop or have Dr. Henderson and the shrinks do it?"

He grinned a little wider. "And can I expect to see you at the party in a non-chaperon capacity?" Or did he have to recruit Claire and Sherry to make sure Leon showed?

"Don't push your luck, Mr. Guzmán." Seriously, don't.

"Keep me posted. Is there anything else?"

"Right you are, sir."

Recruit Claire and Sherry subtly then.

"Can do. And nope, that's it. Anything you need from me while I'm here?"

"Actually, there is something..." You should've known you weren't going to escape scot-free.

"Jaime. Or Jaime II, I suppose..." Yeah, he was still getting used to that idea. "How's he been doing lately?"

Paco shrugged. "He's dealing. Stacy's a weird enough situation without the whole 'oh, by the way, a version of you was kicking around before and left you this journal' on top of it, but he's sturdier than he looks. He knows I got his back." He narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. "If you've got anyone working on tactical angles, he'd probably appreciate being clued in on that. He likes working with people and helping out, and he's had experience with 'my enemies can back-hack my spinal friend' situations so he's not going to be pitching any fits."

"But he's still basically... Jaime?" Because if there was anyone on board who would notice any significant differences, it would be Paco.

"Oh, is that what you're worried about?" Paco shook his head. "He's Jaime all right. All of the major events in his life line up with my memories, he's not going to turn around and surprise you with anything off the wall."

"When the ship swaps one Jaime for another, you have to wonder..." It never hurt to be cautious.

"But that's all." You're free to go and spread cheer, Paco.

"Believe you me, if there's an evil version of Jaime out there -- and I'm not saying there isn't, with all the zillions of realities Stacy had her pick from -- he'd be so completely unlike Jaime in so many other ways that you'd see it coming a mile off." Leon didn't know that Jaime's deepest most secret power fantasy was to be a dentist, but Paco did. Jaime -- both of them -- was just that kind of guy.

Paco raised his hand in a wave, heading for the door. "I'll get out of your hair then, Captain. Catch you around."
