Mean Green Mother from Outer Space [OPEN]
Luis was getting bored.
Sure, he'd always griped about the constant parade of potential life and limb-threatening pathogens that came across his desk-- the number of grim and possibly ship-wrecking case studies he had to work on... and let's not even talk about the alphabet of Umbrella-related paraphernalia he'd had to deal with.
But now that most of it was out of the way, or at least at a stage where it wouldn't mutate and bite people's heads off, Luis was finding a lack of projects to interest him. He hadn't had anything aside from his personal tank of alien snails to interest him for quite a while. He supposed he could always try that "getting out more" thing that people kept suggesting, but when his previous "getting out" experience had been in Madrid, the city with the greatest nightlife in the world, there wasn't much on the comparatively bland spaceship to interest him.
Lately, he'd been coming to hydroponics to do a little field study. He'd spend hours poking around at the various plant life, taking water samples, observing the animals, whatever could keep him occupied.
Today, for the last three hours, he'd been occupied by a large and interesting plant he'd found about a hundred yards into the hydroponics dome. It was a beautiful specimen with long vines and huge, colorful leaves that looked almost iridescent, and a long, tubular flower with a sweet scent, likely to attract insects.
As Luis came to find out, the plant was actually carnivorous, as when he approached it had grabbed him with several of its long vines and was currently suspending him upside-down in midair. The plant didn't seem to know what to do with him, having already attempted to drop him into its flower "mouth" and finding that he didn't fit. He couldn't be eaten, but it must have seemed like a shame to let such huge prey escape.
And so he hung there, hopelessly entwined in the plant's vines, having dropped his omnicomm and unable to send a message for help. His distaste for tentacles luckily didn't extend over to vines... but it was certainly getting there.
"Is anybody out there?" he yelled. "I could use a little help here!"

"Is anybody out there?" he yelled. "I could use a little help here!"

It's okay to get him down, right?
He took aim with his pistol, targeting an area where several of the vines connected; it was the most efficient way to loosen the plant's grip.
"Hello," he said. "Please do not make any unnecessary movements."
Yes, hahaha
"Please do not shoot me, if it's not too much trouble?"

"Gracias, amigo. I had been there for... oh, about three hours now." He felt alongside of him for his glasses, which had fallen about an hour into the ordeal, and then located his omnicomm and notes.

Zouichi moved over to where Luis had fallen, offering him a hand up while glancing over the notes that had landed on the ground. "Are you all right? What were you doing out here?"
no subject
Luis gathered up his notes and shuffled them neatly, before accepting his rescuer's hand up. "I was out here doing a few field studies. I'm running out of things to keep me busy in the lab and, in case you don't know me, which you don't, that is always a bad idea."
no subject
He looked back out at the rest of Hydroponics, considering the alien flora. "I didn't think there were any species in here that would actively try to eat the crew."
no subject
Luis took a moment to stretch out his arms, stiff from dangling upside down for hours. "I believe this one is actually an insectivore, given the small size of its 'mouth.' It may also branch out to small animals. It did attempt to get a taste of me, but it clearly isn't used to human-sized creatures. I doubt it could have really hurt me even if I did fit in its mouth."
no subject
"Kanoe Zouichi, Toha Heavy Industries. Although I suppose I'm now primarily considered part of the Security Department." He glanced back at the plant. "It has quite a bit of strength for something used to eating only small animals. Would it have let you go, eventually?"
no subject
He seemed to drift off on another train of thought, staring at the plant before he remembered that he'd been asked a question. "Oh, what am I working on? Nothing of any great importance. I've been looking for something new to work on."
no subject
"I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the Science Department's projects in general. But it does look like you've found an excellent subject of study."
Zouichi spun his pistol idly in one hand, reholstering it in one smooth motion. He'd been working on that ever since he'd run into Jr. for the first time.

"What was this 'mess of work'?"

He folded his arms, watching Eva approach. "Going for a nice walk, then, amiga?"

A pause. "Some help would be nice, sí?"
no subject
She starts sawing at one of the vines, trying her best to keep Luis from swinging around as she does so. "So about these bugs the size of dogs, they wouldn't happen to be carnivorous too, would they? And don't insects count as some sort of meat, or is eating bugs a category on its own way far away from herbivore and carnivore?"
no subject
The vine suddenly broke away, sending Luis shifting and falling a few feet downwards, suspended by one less than he was before. "Aaah... hijo de puta, god dammit!"
no subject
She positions herself beneath him so that when he falls, he'll end up slumping onto her instead of smacking headfirst into the ground, and begins work at the second, and hopefully final, vine. "So tell me, do you spend much time here baiting the insectivorous plants, Mr. Sera?"
no subject
"I don't, this is actually a new hobby of mine. I haven't had much to do in the lab lately, so I was out looking for some new project to-"
The second vine gave way and he tumbled down, landing not directly on top of Eva, but close enough to knock her over if she wasn't quick on her feet.
"... ow."
no subject
She's not quick enough on her feet, so thankfully for Luis her body probably protects him from hitting his head, but it's still a rough landing for the both of them. It knocks the wind out of her at the very least.
"How about you don't turn this into a regular hobby, ¿cachái?" she asks, getting back up and offering a hand. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
no subject
He let her help him to his feet and he dusted himself off, none the worse for wear, though now glaring pointedly at the plant. "And here I was going to study you, you stupid thing," he muttered, recovering his notes and his glasses from the ground nearby.
no subject
She peeks over his shoulder at the notes. "At least you can verify that it can lift a man up with its vines now. There must be some science that."
no subject
Which was probably fortunate for Luis, as she passed just as he started yelling. "Please don't tell me we've got to worry about being eaten alive on the ship on top of everything else," Tana muttered as she carefully approached the plant, and poor, detained, Luis.
no subject
A pause. "If you don't mind, a little help?"
no subject
Tana stepped up and looked over Luis, trying to find something to pull him by. Hopefully, that plant didn't want a smaller, Hawaiian-style meal.
no subject
Reassuring. "Do you see a stick or something nearby?"
no subject
"Alright, I'll go take a look; just... hang in there." She paused, as if processing what she said, "Wow. I'm sorry, that was horrible. I'll just, go find that stick now."
no subject
Yeah, it wasn't the best of plans, but the guy had been hanging upside down with all the blood rushing to his head for hours now. What do you want from him?
no subject
She raised the stick over her head and started wailing on the flower like it owed her money.
