Talking to Kang was not something Marco really wanted to be doing right now. And yet here he was, flying around over the Drunken Dragon.

<Kang,> he called out in private thoughtspeak, knowing that Kang was inside the tavern - he'd spotted him through one of the windows earlier. <Get your ass out of there, I need to talk to you.>

No, Marco didn't sound testy at all...

Kang really wasn't surprised that Marco wanted to talk to him, what with the yeerk issue. He knew that whole group wasn't happy with him, and he could understand why, even if he didn't quite agree.

Excusing himself, he made his way into the storeroom of the adjacent building, pausing at the door to let whatever the kid happened to be in.

He was not looking forward to this.

Marco waited until he saw Kang walk into the storeroom, before flying in through one of the upper story windows.

He didn't bother to demorph quickly. Kang could damn well wait however long it took him to get down.

A few minutes later, he was human and walking down the stairs into the storeroom. Leaning against the wall, he crossed his arms and glared at Kang.

Not a word was said about how long it took Marco to get down there. Kang crossed his arms over his own chest with a frown and a lash of his tail, "If you're wanting to argue with me because of my position regarding Iniss and Tom, I am not in the mood, Marco."

"Oh, you're not in the mood. Right, I forgot. Never mind that Tom has still got a Yeerk controlling his body, and you still seem to be labouring under the delusion that that's perfectly fine, because hey who cares about what Tom's going though? As long as it's 'his decision', he can inflict as much harm on himself as he wants! But no, you're not in the mood, so we'll just ignore all of that."

You weren't going to get out of this that easy, Kang.

"But, believe it or not I didn't come here today to tell you how much of an idiot you're being. Not that you don't need it."

"Then what did you come here for?" Kang snorted, holding back a growl. He couldn't deny that he had done something completely idiotic, and honestly felt like shit, by asking Iniss to leave and Tom to take the yeerk back in his head; he really didn't want to discuss it at the moment, especially with someone as biased as Marco.

For a moment, Marco just eyed Kang. "There's another Yeerk on board," he said finally. "Except she's not like Iniss."

Aftran.

Kang didn't react beyond a slight tilt of his head. "So you can confirm it, then. She started a peace movement among the yeerks. Councilor Rhiow and I only just found out about Aftran within the last day."

Marco narrowed his eyes. "And you just didn't feel like mentioning that earlier?" he said, his voice deceptively casual.

[governorkang]

"You do remember how this conversation started, and the extremely short amount of time it's gone on so far, right? And like I said, we only just found out about her," Kang pointed out. "You want to talk about Aftran. So let's talk about her. All we know so far is that she's in the body of a very young human girl, which I don't like one bit, and started the peace movement at some point. What else can you tell us?"

"So you say," Marco said coldly. "But a moment ago you were going on about how you didn't want to talk, not that you had info of your own. How do I know that you'd even have mentioned finding another Yeerk if I hadn't brought her up first?"

You wanted details, Kang? You were going to have to work for them now.

[governorkang]

"About Iniss and Tom. I never said anything about other yeerks," Kang let out an irritated snort. "Honestly? You don't. However, I did not hide the fact that I knew about her when you did bring her up."

"How convenient," he said dryly. "But to answer your question, yes Aftran started the Peace Movement. She was assigned Karen as a host because her father was someone they wanted to infest but hadn't been able to yet. Not long after the time Stacy's picked her up from, she frees Karen and stays in the Yeerk pool. You know, that nasty place that Iniss says is so horrible because they don't get to use other people's eyes and hands and bodies."

Kang's wings rustled, and he frowned, "So they were going to use the girl to get him. I didn't think yeerks would go for hosts that young. Do you think that may be part of the reason Aftran had a change of heart? And, how did she keep from being found out, if she was supposed to stay in Karen?"

"They don't usually. Children aren't much use to them - but if it'll get them closer to what they want? They will." Marco shrugged. "Cassie was the one to convince her. Though she always claimed that Aftran hadn't liked enslaving Karen."

Cassie might generally be right when it comes to judging people, but if he hadn't seen the proof himself Marco never would have believed it.

"I have no idea how she did that, actually. All we know is that pretty soon after, she and her family moved to another country. The Yeerks were pretty focused on America, so they didn't have the resources to follow up on her then."

Cassie... the one that looked Ergothian. Kang wasn't sure if she or Jake was the leader of Marco's group yet. "Cassie may be helpful now, as well."

He scratched at his chin, "Makes sense, especially with Karen being a child. It was unlikely she'd be taken seriously, so why waste the time on such a low risk?"

"Cassie's gone," Marco said flatly. "So are Jake and Tobias."

[governorkang]

"Repodded?" Kang frowned. "With Cassie and Jake gone, does that leave you, Rachel or Aximili in charge?"

Marco narrowed his yes. "It's none of your business who's in charge," he said coldly. "And yeah, they were repodded."

[governorkang]

"So we're down a spy, and two potentials. By the way, what do you think about Rhiow joining? I gave her an offer last night, but she won't accept unless she knows that the rest of you aren't going to be hostile to her," Kang snorted. He couldn't really blame her for that.

Marco raised an eyebrow. "Since when do you actually want my opinion?" he said coolly. "You never asked what I think about the Yeerks, but you give a damn about whether or not I'll be nice to the kitty?"

[governorkang]

Kang held back a short growl, "Frankly, I don't want it. However, I have a hell of a lot of respect for Rhiow, and I also want to make sure she isn't hassled by the other members of Intelligence."

[livestoannoy]

"Uh huh. Well I'd think that since Rhiow decided to run for Council, she should be a big enough kitty to deal with the criticism. But if you're that worried, no, I'm not going to go around hassling her. I'm not stupid."

[governorkang]

"I'll let her know, then," Kang's tail lashed slightly. "Is there anything else?"

"No," Marco said shortly. He damn well wasn't going to give Kang any other information when he didn't need to. "And even if there was, you wouldn't even care about what I had to say about it, would you?"

Marco sneered, his contempt clear. "I'm outta here," he said, heading for the door.
