Poking around. [Open]

Today would find the Farseer hock-deep in uprooted dirt and grass.  She was humming to herself as she dug, working out a little garden plot for herself in an undisturbed corner of Hydroponics. Her frostsaber lay sprawled out of reach of flung dirt-clods, sleeping peacefully, though every once in a while an eye would open to check on his mistress' progress.

"Aiie, Snowy," she said when he opened an eye again. "I really should have tried to invest in some tools while I was down on that planet."  The 'saber just heaved a great sigh, and nestled his head against his paws.

"You're no help."

At least she was finding enough rocks to edge her garden, so it wouldn't look like some beast had decided to go on some haphazard digging spree...

Thom had run out of places on this ship where he could study in reasonable peace.

On the surface this sounded ridiculous, given how large Stacy was, but after Thom had spent a day and a half wandering lost through the great City in her belly, and then spent another day turned around in her vast corridors, he found himself sticking to the populated areas. The downside of which being that they were populated.

The primer Abghalien had given him was fascinating as an academic text, but frustratingly short of where he needed to be making progress. So he carried a half-dozen tablets from the media library with him, the contents of which he bounced back and forth between.

Hydroponics was usually somewhere easier to find an out-of-the-way place. But as Thom was walking through it this time, he managed to stumble upon the Farseer's garden. "Oh for Mithros' sake," he said, exasperated, and then fell utterly silent at the sight of the draenei and the frostsaber.

He had actually forgotten most of the Herbology he'd taken. Lupin had thought it mostly wasted time, to be honest, not something he'd need to know ever again in his life.

So, since he had no one but himself to blame, the irony was not lost on him, and went some ways to explain the amused little smile he often wore while traipsing about these green fields.

From a respectful distance, he paused to watch the woman work.

"It amazes me that on a ship this vast it can be so difficult to find a quiet place to study," Thom muttered, glancing from the tree to Alastirra and back. "Your beast - it's tame?"

The great cat looked like it had a saddle, of all things, and what appeared to be some kind of controls. "You don't ride it, do you?"

"Do you need any assistance?" he inquired politely. She seemed to be toiling very diligently with not quite the proper resources, after all.

"I wouldn't use hands, if that's a problem," he said with a wry smile. "And forgive me. My name is Remus Lupin."

Sho was taking a stroll through hydroponics, breathing in all the fresh air and feeling refreshed. He comes across Alastirra and gives her a cheerful smile and wave.

"Hey there. Who's this?" He asks, pointing to the nightsaber.

Thom still kept a weather eye on the cat. Predators that large usually only got that large because they didn't mind snacking on the occasional human.

Still, if Stacy wouldn't allow him to harm anyone on the ship, it stood to reason she wouldn't allow him to come to harm. "I am Master Lord Thom of Trebond," Thom said - he still hadn't fallen out of the habit of introducing himself with his full title. "I'm looking into instances of strange magical interactions. The side effects are fascinating."

Fascinating, and absolutely useless to what he needed. Thom sat down on the tree Alastirra had indicated and set the tablets beside him.

Thom opened the book on his lap, flipping open to where he had left off and balancing it on his knees. Despite how much he had despised working out of doors as a child, being in the middle of greenery was comforting now that he knew what they actually flew in.

Space. The Bleed had been awful enough, but Thom had taken the crew's word that Stacy could navigate the space between worlds. But once space had been explained to him... absolutely nothing, a complete void. It gave him the crawls to think about it.

Despite the fact that Alastirra was keeping to her promise, Thom couldn't seem to concentrate. He put down the book and picked up one of his tablets, then another. He would become absorbed for a small while, and then frustrated.

Finally, he tossed the last one aside. "You mentioned that you work with elemental forces," he said without preamble. "Mages of my world leave such forces alone. How is it you manage to tame them?"

"The pleasure is mine, Ms. Alastirra," he returned politely. "As for a tool, I am a wizard, so..." He drew his wand from his robes, offering it up for her inspection.

"That rather depends on what you most needed help with, at the moment," he said. "I've forgotten all the Herbology I ever knew, but if I couldn't do something as simple as digging or moving rocks I'd be ashamed to call myself a wizard."

Ronnae had caught the conversation between saber and draenei and couldn't help but giggle. She covered her mouth hurriedly looking a bit embarrassed before bowing quickly. "S-sorry for disturbing you."

[identity profile] ronnae.livejournal.com 2011-02-24 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She blushed slightly embarrassed before nodding. "Sorry." She rubbed her arms awkwardly before peeking over the draenei's shoulder. "W-want a hand? One of my mothers loved gardening." She asked a bit timidly.

"How do you commune with them?" Thom asked. He had apparently forgotten that the reason he was here was to find peace and quiet - he'd been confronted with something outside of his magical understanding and he felt a powerful need to grasp it. "The Gate of Idraam is the only way we have found to even call upon such forces, and the wide gate will call everything." Smart mages didn't mess with the Gate.
