BEERSPLOSION!!!

Compared to some of the other explosions that had rocked the Jedi Temple, more specifically, Aibghalien's lab within, this was decidedly mild. Still, it was an audible rumble that pierced the fourth, illusionary wall of the elf wizard's lab, followed by a rich gust of yeast-scented air.

And then, an amber-colored waterfall of frothy, churning lager came pouring out from Aibghalien's lab.

A pair of heads poked out of the wall as well. Stephen's brows were arched above his goggles, and the elf had a rather satisfied, if stunned, look upon his face.

"Well," Aibghalien said. "That went better than we had expected."

"Yeah," Stephen agreed. "But who's going to clean up the mess?"

"I suspect," the elf said, "that it will either be imbibed, or absorbed."

"Absorbed?!" the Scientist exclaimed, shoving his goggles up to stare at Aibghalien, dumbfounded. "I guess, but...man, I hope Stacy doesn't get drunk."

(OOC: Meet the results of the experiment Aibghalien undertook here.)

"It SMELLS all right," Aibghalien said. Considering this, he made a gesture, at which point a goblet appeared and obligingly dipped into the river. He took it in his hand, drank, then nodded. "Not bad!"

That was on the floor!

"Then perhaps all you need is a bigger container," said Zouichi. He looked around. "And a newer, less soggy laboratory."

"My lab will be fine," Aibghalien said. "The reaction just turned out to be much more productive than anticipated! We'll get it under control."

Zouichi smiled. "Well, I'm glad no lasting harm was done to your equipment. Did you ever get the golem to work out for you?"

"I set those experiments aside for the moment," he said. "I was growing too frustrated with them, which is never a productive mindset. I'll return to that branch of magic later with a fresh perspective."

He nodded. It made sense, although he was a little disappointed, truth be told. A little wanton property damage was, after all, part of the Synthetic Human experience.

"By the way, I wonder if I might ask you about an unrelated topic. I understand some of our shipmates are in favor of efforts to understand the Ohm in hopes of a peaceful resolution. Do you share a similar sentiment?"

Hmm. Aibghalien considered that for a moment.

"Given what I have seen of them," he finally said, "I don't believe that any sort of peace accord is possible. I would be extraordinarily surprised if their minds -- if they have more than one -- function in a way that would even consider us 'people' in the same way that they would consider themselves to be.

"I suppose to a sort of hive mind, a series of individuals would seem quite alien." Zouichi thought for a moment. "Many of the people I've spoken to have expressed a very strong visceral response to the idea. But if they are analogous to the insect species of Earth, they may be ascribing the Ohm a maliciousness that simply isn't there."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Maliciousness? Perhaps they have none," Aibghalien said. "But a river will wear down a mountain without maliciousness, and there's no making peace between the two either. Frankly, I feel an enemy without malice is far more implacable and unappeaseable than one with."

"Perhaps we won't be able to reconcile," Zouichi said, sighing. "I spent a good deal of my conscious life fighting mindless enemies without a thought, but now it appears I've nothing but time to consider my actions."

"At any rate, I think I should be going, unless you need a hand cleaning up? I believe I've a patrol to start."

"It's my mess -- well, Stephen and mine. I'd feel bad making anyone else help," he said almost absently, regarding the river of beer with an amused smile.

Zouichi nodded, returning the smile. "All right. Take care of yourself, Aibghalien."

He paused for a moment just before he left. "And thank you."
