A Food-Lover's Personal Hell [Open]

When she made her contract with Alaya -- the part of the world that governed humanity -- the girl known to history as the King of Knights had understood that it would involve certain sacrifices. She had been pleasantly surprised to learn that in eras well into the future of her own, good food would not be among them. In fact, the cooks -- she was hard-pressed to call them that -- of her own time were so terrible that she had wondered if food was merely a form of punishment. It was only after she had been summoned as the Servant Saber in the Fourth War for the Holy Grail that she had been awakened to a new reality: eating could be a pleasurable experience. That is, if the food was pleasant to the taste.

Whatever this 'food' was that was foisted upon her was decidedly not pleasant by any stretch of the imagination.

It did not seem to be an unreasonable thing: the little blonde was not especially picky about food as long as it tasted good. A simple but tasty (and large) meal was far preferable to a fancy but bland (and small) one. The indecipherable mass she was served was the worst of all worlds: unidentifiable, small... but worst of all, tasteless.

She accepted her 'meal' with her usual impassive expression, seating herself in silence. Yet, she made no move to begin eating, staring at the slop with no change in her stony mask. However, those sensitive to supernatural phenomenon -- or even those who were simply observant -- would most certainly feel the heavy weight of a killing aura surrounding the otherwise proper and elegant young girl as she sat in morose silence.

While Cagalli was far from happy with the food herself, for now living was a priority. She'd heard something about taking it to the Sensoriums as well, but after fighting a giant shadow Bowser completely by accident she was a little shy about using it for anything completely mundane.

Off in her own world, she barely regarded the king as she sat down a short distance away, poking her food a few times. "Looks like something straight out of a weird science fiction movie, just like the rest of this place," she observed aloud.

Fate was very good at sensing other people's moods, and even with hers stuck in the rut it's been in for the past few weeks... it was pretty darn easy to pick up on the other blonde's slightly unnerving aura.

Rather than being scared off, Fate approaches the table Saber is sitting at, sets her own tray down, sits across from her, and cautiously attempts to strike up a conversation.

"... Is something bothering you?"

Merlin was used to not eating the best food. Servants didn't exactly get to have all the best meals (well, unless you count what they manage to sneak off the noble's plates).

But still, even the servant's meals was better than this.

Sighing, Merlin looked around and tried to find a table. Unfortunately, there looked like there was only one free - and seated at one end of it was a woman who looked like she might decide to get up and start killing people at any moment.

Watching her warily out of the corner of his eye, Merlin tried to quietly make his way over to the seat as far away from the woman as possible and started hoping that she would be too busy trying to kill the slop with her eyes to notice him.

"Ah... I understand how you feel," Fate said. And really, who didn't? It may have been healthy, but come on... the tray has a better taste than this stuff, for crying out loud. "I don't think anyone would eat this willingly if we had a steady supply of real food."

Noticing Saber's tone, Cagalli glanced sideways at her. Definitely not a happy woman. "Hey, I'm pretty disappointed too, but you need to eat to live." To prove her point, she took a bite, making a show of not minding it. "And... the trays at least have a taste, you know?"

"You going 'blech' yourself?" If the young girl looked up, she'd see Mary Jane taking a seat across from her, the woman's facial expression conveying her own disgust. "I've seen slime more appetizing than this stuff."

Merlin still watched her carefully. Maybe when he'd first come to Camelot he might have been able to trust that she was just having a bad day, but since then Merlin had managed to learn at least some caution.

Gaius would be proud.

"At least it hasn't killed anyone?" Merlin said, trying to find at least one positive spin. "Yet."

"Hm?" Saber certainly LOOKED human to Cagalli. Not that it was any use to make assumptions here, but the glop was standard for everyone on the ship - customized, even, if what she heard was right. "Well... if you eat food to live, then it should be perfect for you. If you uh... live off of something else, I'm sure there's something here for you."

For all Cagalli knew, she photosynthesized.

Merlin nudged just a little but further away from Saber. "Well it's that or going hungry," he said, before gingerly picking at his own slop with his spoon.

He should start eating. He just really didn't want to.

"The ship can pick up on what you can and can't, or will not eat, so I'm sure your body will be able to process it just fine." Almost reluctantly, Fate took a bite of her meal, trying not to shudder as she did so.

"It just... doesn't have much in the way of flavor, that's all."

[identity profile] allnaturalseed.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Not completely necessary?" So she really was something unusual, someone who doesn't necessarily need to eat to sustain themselves. This brought up the question of just how she did, though.

"So... is it... something weird, or what? Don't tell me you're a vampire." Now that would be kind of awkward, though it stands to reason that Stacy could accommodate that as well.
nevergetscredit: (...Uther's married a troll?)

clearly Merlin needs to find one for her then XD

Merlin had managed to finally take a bite out of his own meal while Saber was prodding here (although the way he scrunched up his nose quite clearly showed exactly what he thought of it).

But then she spoke, and he turned to stare at her. Was she mad?! "Why would you think that eating wasn't 'completely necessary'?" he said.

Hoshi had been near Saber with Seraphiel, poking at the slop that could barely even be called food. Even her holy beast seemed appalled at the what was given to them.

"...you want some of it, Seraphiel?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.

Seraphiel cawed, shaking his head at his mistress. He did not want to eat something like this.

"Yeah. I thought so, too. This stuff's worse than what they give the defense forces," she stated with a bit of a mumble behind it. There had to be something better than this on board Stacy. There just had to be.

Ronnae plopped on a seat next to the many others that seemed to be oh so enjoying the slop. She moved one of her long ponytails behind her so as to not have it touch the goop on her bowl. She sighed nudging her elbow at the table and resting her head on her hand.

She stirred the goop a few times looking at it with boredom.
"What does a girl have to do to at least get some texture.... hell I'd settle for color..." the young half orcess raised the spoon close to her face before dropping it back in the bowl.

"I don't know how some of the crew have been here long eating this.... this.... blech." She pushed it aside making a face. She layed her arms on the table and rested her head on them looking at the slop then up at the young woman in front. "Guessin' you're not fond of this stuff either huh?"

Dearka, of course, was no man to be foiled by a killing aura when it came to pretty girls. He took a seat in front of the King of Knights with his own platter of food, giving it a look of disgust on his own. He had done this eating thing quite a bit already but it was never any easier for the pilot.

"Having a little trouble there? I could give you a few hints to help pass it on by," he offered pleasantly.
