Girl Talk

It had been a long time since she'd seen Nura, and she'd felt bad that she hadn't been able to visit her since she was in that coma. She had promised herself that she was going to visit her once she found out that she was out of the coma, and she had been worried since she was there. But she resigned herself to telling her that when she came here: she had missed her partner in crime very much, and would definitely need to talk to her after yesterday.

The Sensorium turned the place into a nice quiet inn, and she was seated in a booth, pleasant jazz playing in the background and a rather familiar looking candelabra watching with faint amusement.

"Well I'm more than the back-up," she said. "Since Reimi's crewmates aren't here, she has to act as Captain, which leaves me as the mechanic." She shrugged her shoulders. She'd given serious thought to the role of mechanic before she took it, even though it had been quickly asked. She enjoyed fixing things like the engine or a busted gear. It was soothing.

Nura listened to Katara's reasons attentively before closing her eyes, sighing. "That's an interesting position you're in. You were in love with someone back home, but since waking up on the ship, you've come to have feelings for someone else, is that right?" She reached up to move back a bang to behind her ear.

"Oh, I see now," Katara said. "I can understand that now. You must really like being a mechanic then. I wish I had the mind for something like that, but I know what my strengths and weaknesses are. I hope you're successful at whatever you're doing! I can only imagine how much harder its been with all that's happened on the ship."

She smiled shyly. "I won't ever stop loving Aang, and the person I cares about knows that. He has a girl that he cared about just as much, she was here for a little while. But they're both not here, and we've been good friends for a year. Only recently did we both admit that we started liking each other, and now its just all so overwhelming. I guess I was just hoping you could tell me what you think you would do if you started dating someone you cared that much about?"

"Thank you, Katara."

She smiled at Katara's sentimentality. "Well, as much as I hate to admit it, I'm more impulsive, so I'd see where the feelings lead me right at the start, and then make a decision." She'd done the whole rinse, lather, repeat cycle with many boys, until she found her Mr. Right. "I'd not invest too much emotions in the relationship until I was absolutely sure."

"You're always welcome," she said brightly.

She let out a nervous giggle here. She'd like not to say she jumped into things, and honestly, she was half right. "I knew I had a slight crush on him, but we were still friends, so I didn't pay much attention. He had a girlfriend and I was still waiting for Aang. GLADOS abducted her at one point though, and we started to hang out after he was injured. The closer we got, the better we felt, and then GLADOS brought her back and we remembered her. We backed away, and did our own things, and then she was repodded. I went to comfort him and then...we sort of stopped lying to each other."

She blushed. "It was sort of magical and new. I think that's why it still makes me nervous."

She laughed. "The fun thing about all this, Katara," she gestured around her, "is that you're young. You both are. You still have all the time in the world - at least for now - to figure it all out. So I think you deserve the chance to give it a go. You never know until you try."

She shook her head. "As much time until the next crazy situation happens, maybe. But I'll take what I can get. I don't know if you've ever met him, but he's the driver of the W.I.T.C.H. bus, Matt Olsen. He's smart, mind, brave, great looking, and he's got a really beautiful singing voice!"

Yes, she's gushing. "And we've already had a second date in the Sensorium, with a ballroom dance and everything. Something about 'Beauty and a beast', I don't know. but it was wonderful! I could have danced all night!"

"True, true," she laughed, smiling. "I've actually met Matt a couple of times. He makes a pretty good breakfast spread." She crossed her arms. "I didn't know he could sing, however."

She smiled at Katara's enthusiasm. "Then why didn't you?" She teased. She teased.

"Oh yeah, he can sing," Katara said, a dreamy look on her face. "Not that him being himself alone isn't enough, it is. But once he gets that guitar out and starts a song..." She shook her head. "I think it may have been how he started to get me to like him. He hardly fights fair, you know, even though he never does that on purpose."

She looked over at Nura, reddening. "If we'd only been dancing, we couldn't spend the rest of the date kissing."

"Sounds familiar," Nura said as she briefly flashed back into her dreamland mode.

She shook her head of her memories. "Oh ho~. Now there's something to make note of."

She looked down, smiling. "I didn't really know what to expect. I thought it was just a small crush that would go away, you know? Teenagers go through things like that, I was understanding it. But one day, when GLADOS took Will, she wasn't there and Matt got hurt. The idea of him by himself, in pain, bothered me a lot. So I went there, nursing him back to health, and then I knew."

She giggled nervously. "It was really nice, actually."

Nura rolled her eyes at the part regarding the doings and goings of the emotional experiences of teenagers. Of if she had a cred for every time she heard that one...

"Well kissing is very nice, so 'nice' would be a good way to describe it."

She laughed. "I know, I know. I just...I haven't done anything like this for two years. I'm still sort of trying to understand all of these feelings. I know it sounds silly to you."

She shook her head. "He's amazing, more than I thought, honestly. Is it all right that I know if he were hurt, I'd go to him, protect him and fight for him? That even that feeling is sort of selfish?"

Nura reached out and put her hand on Katara's shoulder, giving it a squeeze. "It's not silly at all. And neither is it selfish if you feel that way. If you like someone, of course you are going to feel selfish about some things. It's natural."

She laughed lightly. "It feels amazing, I guess, its like when we see each other, we're play by ear, just sort of talking and laughing and being with each other. If this is what its like with you and yours, I can see why you're so devoted to him."

She grinned. "Did you hear about that prom, by the way?"

Nura shrugged her shoulders. "Querl and I more made up things as we went, if that's what you mean by 'play by ear'. We'd get in these little play arguments where we'd start saying things differently, and we knew what the other really meant." She sighed, folding her arms. "It was...like a game."

She thought about that a moment. Opposites attracting: it made her think of Mai and Zuko, honestly. "So you both had the fact that you were at each other's throats a little. With Matt and I, its like we see what's special about each other when we talk about our day. I always saw that in him and liked it."

She shook her head. "When did you know?"

"I think deep down I always knew, but was..." she reached up and pulled her ponytail in a pause. "...just too damn stubborn for my own good, until that one moment when it all was clear to me." She looked down at her wedding ring, biting her lower lip. "Not as clear as clear can be, but that curiosity about him came back full force."

"Oh, I see," Katara said, thinking about how hard it was to imagine that people who cared about each other that much would be so different at first. She liked that though: all these different relationships that happened because two people vested their time and care into each other and found something special.

"And you went after him eventually," she finished. "I can see you wanting to know more about him."
