Having missed out on all the excitement in part due to remaining in the bus after her actions that had gotten Matt hurt, Asuna soon found herself on the observation deck.

That baka Negi...taking things that clearly don't belong to him, putting himself in harm's way time after time again after EVERYTHING we've gone through...! she fumed quietly in her thoughts, her subconscious mind forcing other thoughts she never dared consider becoming reality to her conscious mind.

What was the whole point of the Pactio in the first place if you aren't going to rely on us for help, Negi?!...

After his spectacular chewing out by his mom so that's how one of those felt like, Negi had taken to wandering the decks when he found himself on the obs deck.

Looking around, he noticed Asuna there and he bit his lip. "Asuna-san," he called out, walking up to her. "Are... you still mad?"

"..." Asuna took in a quick breath, not having expected to see the young mage this soon; she thought he would've been running rampant with Devlin again, or doing whatever else 10-year-olds were supposed to do!

"Of course not...not completely at you, anyway! You were just doing what kids your age do - take things that don't belong to you and get in trouble for it. How long are you grounded for?"

"Quite a bit," admitted Negi, rubbing his head. "It's an odd sensation, being grounded. I never did anything to cause a grounding before."

He looked at his partner and bit his lip. "You're worried about something, aren't you?"

"Oh, really?" Asuna's eyes slightly narrowed while crossing her arms. "You don't count my clothes being blown away 'cause of some magic hocus pocus cause for being grounded?" She wasn't even going to get into how many times he'd caused that to happen.

At hearing his question, the girl's head snapped up in his direction, eyes widening in surprise. "'Course not! What makes you think I'm worried about something?"

"It's written all over your face Asuna-san," replied Negi at the confirming reaction. He knew she was never good with emotions at times.

"Asuna-san... Asuna, please tell me what's wrong." pleaded Negi.

Asuna turned away from Negi, arms now wrapped tightly around her waist. After a moment or two had passed, the girl reached into her bag and pulled out her Pactio card, Negi clearly able to see her name written across it.

"...Do you even need me here, Negi? It's obvious that you have everything well in hand with your new powers!"

Negi blinked and smiled as he walked up to her -- and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Asuna I promise you I need you," he said softly. "You're my partner, the one I asked to come to England with me, the one who I care for the most out of all of you."

"...!" Asuna dropped her card out of surprise, cheeks flushed pink once Negi pulled her into an embrace. "You've got Nodoka for that, or that one blue-haired girl." She hadn't met all of Negi's new friends yet, but she had heard about some of them.

"I know," said Negi, his face buried in her back. "But Asuna... even if I do like Sasami and Nodoka... it doesn't change the fact that you're my precious partner. And I couldn't have done half the things I needed to without you."

"...Baka Negi!" Asuna turned around after a moment or two of shaking and pulled the kidlet young mage into an embrace, fighting back tears of relief. "You'd better remember that the next time you're fighting some insane lunatic or half-possessed monster..."

"In my defense I didn't mean to get into a fight," admitted Negi as he hugged Asuna back, trying not to cry himself. "It just sort of... happened."

"...Just like you getting shoved under a sink sort of 'happened?'" Asuna sniffled, definitely grateful that no one from Mahora was around to witness this special moment between teacher and student. Not that she'd acknowledge him as her teacher, after all.

Negi chuckled at that. "Yeah, like getting shoved under a sink. I did enjoy being a Rider but not being able to move my body, well, yeah."

He rubbed his head, grateful that Asuna was being so forgiving right now. "Thanks. And I mean it. Everyone's special to me, but with you around, it's easier to bear."

Asuna pulled away after a while, cheeks still flushed and a few tears having trickled down her face. "We're all we've got from home now...you know that, right?"

"Yeah, you, me and mom and Master," said Negi as he smiled up at Asuna. "Which um, reminds me. I should really head to the bus before mom discovers I took a detour and grounds me until I'm thirty. Walk me there?"

Asuna grinned lightly, ruffling Negi's hair before giving him a nod of approval and bending down to pick up her card. "Wouldn't want that, since you've got got maintain proper decorum...sensei."

Negi blushed and rubbed his head. "So um, I've never actually been grounded before. Does it get boring after a while?"

"After about 3-4 times, you'll be wishing you'd never heard of the word 'grounded.'" Asuna lightly patted Negi on the shoulder, her usual confident tone back in her voice.

"Oh man..." moaned Negi. "I'm in trouble aren't I?"

"Ahh, you'll survive." Asuna ruffled Negi's hair once again before going on. "You're supposed to hate being grounded, but since you never got punished before we'll call this a learning experience."

"Well if it's a learning experience then it shouldn't be bad. Although I have to write a five page apology letter," added Negi.

"Five page apology letter? Wait 'till you have to write on the blackboard 'I shall not moon my science teacher' over 300 times!" Whether Asuna was kidding or not, she didn't say. The grin on her face possibly said otherwise.

"Mom says it's a "royal apology"," groaned Negi, rubbing his head. "If only I could write lines, it would be easier. Even if my arm would fall off afterwards."
