Heavens On Fire [Open]
Setsuna had stayed, and once again observed the training session of Starfighter Command, but declined to participate. While he had taken time to observe everyone's performance, and had his red Haro record the entire exercise, his attention had been mostly focused on Blade Squad. No surprise there, since they were mobile suit pilots. Like himself.
No. Not like me, he thought to himself.
He was on the bridge of the simulated Quarter right now, and had commandeered one of the various consoles. His Haro was connected to one of them, and was playing back part of Blade Squad's performance in the exercise.
As a team, they did fine, though something was missing in the way they operated. What that was, however, was something Setsuna couldn't quite put his finger on. Perhaps it was just this false environment they were in.
Still, something about this didn't sit right with him, so he reviewed the footage, and largely ignored the goings on around him. Maybe if he watched it long enough, he'd be able to figure out
((Free threading, mostly for Starfighter Command pilots, but everyone is welcome. See the ooc post here.))

Setsuna's voice suddenly cut through the sound of the battle, and right into Kira's mind.
The eradication of war through force. To accept that contradiction, to fight for peace in the most literal sense, is what it means to be part of Celestial Being
It wasn't just straight ahead speed that he had. His Gundam moved from left to right, changing direction so quickly and so sharply, one had to wonder how the G-forces didn't reduce his insides to liquid.
He managed to weave in close, but had to back off as the field of fire became so narrow he might not have been able to dodge. He dropped down sharply, then aimed up and fired off a particle beam that covered a wide enough area such that a few of the DRAGOON's were in its path.
His speed wasn't the only thing that was increased at the moment.

Another flash as Setsuna unleashed his blast - and while Kira was able to maneuver two of the DRAGOONs out of the way of the shot, a third was destroyed. He gritted his teeth again - he couldn't afford to just lose them like that.
This power... what was this power? Why hadn't he used it before? Was it on a time limit? Could he hope to outlast it and stay alive?
Kira fired again, trying to box Setsuna into a square he couldn't dodge from.

Setsuna could see that Kira was trying to box him in, and strangely, he made no attempt to break out of it. Instead, he moved through the field of fire, evading and dodging while advancing on the Strike Freedom, swords at the ready, and advancing on the point where he wouldn't be able to dodge anymore.
Those who are on the front lines, who have the will, the determination, the audacity, and the power within them to change the world; those who fight for a world free of all war, to cut out the darkness and twistedness that lies in the heart of a flawed society, who fight to tear apart that which doesn't work, who fight to clear a path so that all humanity can reform itself; and who do it not for the sake of gathering power for themselves, for their country, or for a God who doesn't exist, but for the sake of their own souls, and for the future we all share... They are the Gundam Meisters.

Don't most people fight for that? Nobody wants to fight and kill and die... noone fights a war because they want to fight a war! What makes you think you're special like that?
The only thing that separates us from them is the power we hold in our hands!

The personification of that ideal, the physical embodiment of the eradication of war, that is Gundam.
Setsuna made his plan painfully obvious. He stopped trying to dodge as he got closer, and pointed his sword straight at the cockpit of the Strike Freedom, and he was making a beeline right towards it. He started taking several hits to his suit on the way, but powered right through each, not slowing down at all.
Either you or him, Kira. One of you isn't walking away from this alive.

A suicide charge? Kira'd seen that before. He'd done that before - he'd have to time this just right. But if there was one advantage his SEED gave him, it was perfect timing. Setsuna came closer, closer, impossibly fast...
...the Freedom juked hard to the side, cutting it so close that Setsuna's sword actually cut into the chest armor as he passed (rather than an impaling blow). Kira used the opportunity to slice down at the other mobile suit, at one of those strange glowing engines - hoping to take it clean off.

And I. Am...
He didn't have time to finish that thought, as Kira's beam saber was coming right for him. He couldn't dodge in time, but he didn't try to. The moment the beam saber came into contact with his Gundam, the entire 00 Raiser seemingly disintegrated right before Kira, disappearing into nothing but a fading cloud of GN particles.

Kira blinked. His first thought was that the other mobile suit had been destroyed, but - no, this wasn't anything like that.
A trap? Was it a trick of some kind? Had this just been a decoy? Kira started scanning his sensors, looking all around for where his opponent could possibly have gone.

Gundam!
Kira didn't have to look far. Setsuna reappeared right in front of him. When he did, one sword blade was near the neck of the Strike Freedom, the other was in rifle mode, pointed at the cockpit, and was charging up a particle blast. One that, in however many hundreths of a second it took Kira to realize it, Setsuna could have fired it already, but hadn't.
Yet.

So by the time Setsuna had fully materialized, he wasn't the only one with his sword to the other mobile suit's neck - and seven DRAGOONs held still in space at a very close range, all focused on the enemy mobile suit.
Judging by the way Kira'd been reacting all fight, Setsuna, do you're really think you're fast enough to get the shot off before he retaliates with seven remote blasts into your cockpit?
no subject
Do you think he cares if you retaliate, Kira? Mutually assured destruction has never stopped him before.
Earlier, you asked me how I could possibly do nothing if innocent lives are in danger.
All you've shown me is an enemy that you fight against. For no other reason than you're convinced you'll be dead if you don't.
There was a time when that would have been enough reason for me. But I'm different than I used to be. I helped to the world, and in doing so, reformed myself.
"I'm not a sword to be used," he said out loud. His voice sounded a little raspy, like he was out of breath. "And neither is my Gundam. We won't be joining Blade Squad.
"Worry about saving innocent lives all you want. But I look at this situation and wonder if my Gundam and I are being used to take innocent lives." Celestial Being members tended to be big picture people, and the big picture of this place was unclear. "I won't allow that to happen."
He powered down from Trans-Am, and brought his weapons down to his side. If Kira wanted to kill him for what he said, he could.
no subject
"You say that... we know we're fighting for our lives, here. We've seen them destroy a place that was just used for peace and relaxation. You haven't seen that yet."
"If, or when you understand why we're fighting here, will you join us?"
no subject
He didn't say anything, though Kira could probably sense the look he was getting right now.
"Haro, end this simulation," he finally spoke, after a long stretch.
...well, he didn't say 'no', at least?
no subject
Kira took another long breath and let it out slowly as he slumped back in the pilot's chair of the Freedom. He could feel sweat beaded on his forehead - simulation or not, that had taken quite a bit out of him. Setsuna was a skilled pilot, no doubt about that... and that strange light effect had been almost too much to keep up with.
Hopefully they'd be on their side soon enough.
