Leon had a first-time visitor to his office this afternoon, a visitor who knocked three times before making his way through the door, looking not quite apprehensive. "Suspicious" wasn't the word either. "Wary" came a little closer.

In any case, Chris had promised to give Leon a chance and had rehearsed the least inflammatory way of letting him know that by possessing Claire Redfield's heart, he had also come into possession of the world's scariest protective older brother-in-law.

As gently as possible, of course.

"Afternoon, Captain Kennedy."

Leon, admittedly, had expected this conversation sooner rather than later, once he found out that Chris was on board.

"Chris Redfield," Leon said as he stood up. He held out his hand for a shake. "It's good to see you again."

"You too. It's been a while." Chris shook his hand and managed a bit of a smile.

"Looks like you've gotten a bit of a promotion since then."

"Something like that. Have a seat," he offered, sitting back down.

"Claire is thrilled that you're here. She's really missed you."

Chris sat down, still looking a bit formal in posture. "Yeah, I missed her too... she's been getting me up to speed on what's going on since I, er. Overslept."

He reached up and pushed his hair out of his face. "I can't say it isn't weird having my little sister catch me up on everything."

"Yeah, you missed a lot." And with Claire getting him up to speed...

"So she's told you about me and her... and Sherry?" He may as well just get it over with now.

Okay, good. He was direct. Chris didn't get along with anybody who danced around the issues at hand for too long.

"Yeah," he replied. "I can't say that wasn't a surprise too. But..."

He regarded Leon with a bit of a suspicious glance. "If Claire thinks you're worth holding onto for this long, there must be something special to it."

"I like to think there is." Actually, it was more like he knew there was something special to it.

"Your sister is an amazing woman." In bed. Though he was not going to admit to that part in front of Chris. Leon was reckless with his life sometimes, be he was not stupid.

Chris let out a miniature sigh. "Yeah, she is," he agreed. "She's been through hell and back because of me. But she's always been strong enough to handle it anyway. She means the whole world to me."

He paused. "You got any sisters?"

"Three of them. All older." or at least he had three of them. The universe going kablooey dramatically cut down the number of birthday cards he was obligated to buy.

"Complete pains in the ass, but there isn't anything I wouldn't do for them."

Three sisters. It was tough to tell if three sisters would spread out Chris' protective nature so it wouldn't focus all on one girl, or if it would just amplify to three times as strong. There was a scary thought.

"You know how it is, then," he said. "I don't want to butt in on her life, especially since it's been going on without me all this time. But I'd do just about anything to keep her from getting hurt."

Chris cleared his throat briefly. "I'm sure you know what I mean."

If it worked like Leon's, it would be amped up several times over.

He nodded his head in understanding. "Yeah, I get it. And I consider myself duly threatened."

Chris scoffed a little bit at that. "All right. Then I've done my brotherly duty."

"Though like I said," he added, "If Claire herself hasn't ripped you to shreds by now, you're a leg or two up on some of the dirtbags who came sniffing around her in the past."

"Really? I can't say I've ever met any of her ex-boyfriends." As close as he and Claire had been over the years after Raccoon City, their respective jobs usually left them ten thousand miles apart at any given time.

"You weren't missing much," Chris assured him. "Claire's always been pretty independent that way, none of them ever lasted all that long. Especially not the scummy ones."

He leaned back in his chair thoughtfully as he cracked his knuckles. "Though last I heard, Jason was making some progress. He relearned the alphabet and they said he might be able to talk again in a few months."
