Matt shifted in his bed, eliciting a grunt of pain. Blinking, he realized belatedly that he was in a bed. Hmm... was he...?

Opening his eyes fully, he realized that he was in the mini infirmary of the bus, but the location had been moved. Presumably by someone who comandeered his keys. He was also wrapped in bandages but the worst of his injuries had been worked on. He was also, not to put a fine point on it, naked.

Groaning, he turned his head to the side, trying to figure out just who moved him there and if Asuna was okay. "... w-water," he croaked to the air.

"Hmph. Details." Of course a book wouldn't think of that sort of thing. "It sounds like they're doing something about this virus, so things should be back to normal pretty soon."

Matt let out a relieved sigh as he leaned back in his bed, staring at the roof. "That's good then," he said, reaching up and brushing some hair away from his face.

"So what's your story? I'm pretty sure you weren't a book all the time. Your mana signature seems too strong for that."

"...FINALLY, someone who can sense mana power!" Zetta was pleased enough by this that he didn't even get annoyed at the question. He settled into his 'backstory' tone of voice.

"This book is the Sacred Tome. Everything about my Netherworld is written in it. The Ohm tampered with the book, and, uh, long story short, I had to confine my soul in it to save my Netherworld, and my life."

"That's one way to do it," said Matt, nodding. Responsibility was heavy at least, and to be holding the world in your hands, well, it was definitely one way to do it.

He grinned and held up a hand, a small ball of crackling blue-white electricity forming before he let it dissipate. "Mana from my world. Quintessence. Fifth element. All of those fun descriptions bundled up into either blue lightning or pink energy."

Zetta raised an eyebrow at that. "Huh. That's surprisingly straightforward. Not a bad trick either." Not that the Overlord was impressed, mind. He was only here... why was he still here? He'd rationalize something later, damn it!

"Tell me about it. Mana is pretty flexible where it comes from my world, imparting great wisdom, healing wounds or causing great harm." Matt shrugged. "It's all wibbly wobbly to me but all I know is that it can be molded into different types of magics since it runs off the Earth-Air-Fire-Water system."

"...That doesn't sound like the mana I know at all," Zetta said, then added with smug arrogance, "but it's so out of that league, who can say? Still, the important thing is that you can use it... and apparently you can fight."

"True enough." said Matt as he blinked a little lightheaded sensation out from behind his eyes. "Wow, that just sent all the blood to my head. I shouldn't try that again till I'm healed."

"Well, heal fast!" Zetta pronounced. "I won't have my minions lying down on the job, not when there's lots to be done. Can you teach people how to fight? Are your skills at all transferrable?"

"Yes and yes," said Matt. "I run off an elemental skill set, and flexibility is the name of the style. It's technically a Meridianite Martial style, mixed in with bending elements around. I deal with the five primary energy sources, not the other five."

He grins. "I've got a few students here and there."

"Hyaaa ha ha ha! A worthy minion, then! As soon as this whole mess is cleaned up, I'll see if I can round up people who want to learn!"

Yes, the Overlord is getting into entirely too good a humor now.

Matt chuckled at that. Minion to Zetta? He could deal with that. Definitely more amusing to be around than his old teacher. "I'll make sure to get better as soon as possible then."

"I suppose with a healer willing to help you out, that shouldn't be too bad," Zetta said, completely and totally unaware of the Medbay. "Uh, how much... thinking... is involved in this thing you do?"

"Any help would be appreciated," replied Matt with a nod. "I don't mind healing, be it magical or physical."

"As for the magic, there's a bit of discipline but it's focused around creativity than actual literary magic. Most people pick it up easily."

"Hmmmmmmmmmm," said Zetta, a maniacal gleam in his eyes. "I really, really like what you're telling me."

RUN MEATSHIP INHABITANTS.

"Well hey, it's not too hard for anyone to pick up the spells. Just takes practice and a little patience s'all." Matt grinned at that. "It's why it's so intuitive, you just pick up the magic and make things go boom."

"How much effort does it take to teach?" Zetta asked. "How many people, how often, could you take on?"

"Maybe ten, twenty people at once. I'd have to run through the usual test though, see if their spirit is open enough to attract one of the elemental forces." mused Matt as he tapped a hand on his leg and spun his finger around.

"Earth, fire, air, water, quintessence. Five elements in a circle of energies that have direct opposing forces. The actual science behind it takes time to explain but there's also five opposing magics to that. I'd have to mine them out of the energies I've got at my disposal but that'd take time. And Reverse elementals are kind of rare in the usual energy set up..."

He trailed off. "Basically I can take a few people at a time, and separate them into teams."

"And if on top of that, I knew someone I thought might be able to benefit from... extensive training?"

Zetta thought a moment, then added, "If it helps, you definitely have enough mana power for at least a minor wish."

"I could take time to do that," said Matt. "Between the Council, we only meet once a week or so, so it should be alright to work out."

"A wish? Hmm... if I could get a separate lumia charged with the opposite energies... might take some doing though. How does it work?" inquired Matt.

"Oh yes. I like this! Hyaaa ha ha ha ha!" What did you just get yourself into, Matt?

"The Sacred Tome is still the foundation of my Netherworld, so anything you write in it comes true... if you have enough mana power to fuel the wish."

Matt simply grinned. At least he was enthusiastic about his work.

"Huh, so that does make sense. The more power you have, the easier it should be to make a wish. I like that concept."

"It's the key to everything, here," Zetta said with a grin, which quickly faded. "Though there's no one here who could make the wishes I need. All the more reason we press on to the good ending."
