Outbreak

It was night on the ship - or at least as close to night as the ship ever got.

But while most of the crew slept, something had been released from within the ship. Something invisible, something undetectable, and something very, very dangerous.

If you passed through parts of the City, you might start to feel a little sick...

Sherry had come home from playing, and looked like death warmed over. Her cheeks were red with fever and even though Stacy was rather warm, she shivered, wrapping her blanket around her. Still, for all this, she absolutely went about her business as usual, starting up her reader and picking out a book.

About fifteen minutes later the door to the room opened and in came Claire, Boon on her heels. She opened her mouth to complain about the dog and his lack of leash, but the second she set her sights on Sherry she knew something was wrong. Immediately momface was on and she was moving to sit down next to Sherry, one hand reaching out to touch the little girl's face.

"Are you alright, sweetie? You look pretty flushed." And felt pretty flushed.

[identity profile] in-venting.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sherry frowned and twisted her head away from Claire's hand. "Stop it, I'm fine." She shook her head, realizing how rude and unlike her that sounded. Well, how unlike her it sounded when she was with Claire, anyway. "Sorry, mom. I just feel annoyed I gu--"

Her apology was cut off when the little girl scrambled to the side of the bed, and vomited on Claire's shoes. Hope you didn't like those, Claire.

Komali was, as usual, in the city. His mother was always busy, always working, but ever since Samus had become the chief of security, she'd been even more tied down.

And that meant he'd been more alone.

For some reason, today the world seemed brighter- a little dizzier, somehow, like lights flickering. It was always warm on board, but today the weather was even hotter- he felt like he could do anything!

So, naturally, he took off running, and after a brief start, managed to get to the air, careening wildly as his balance took the main burden from his fever. He wasn't going to crash- he wasn't afraid!

....but that's not what it looks like from the ground.

When Claire realized what Sherry was doing she tried to get her feet out of the way, but still, barfed on shoes were barfed on.

"Oh, yeah. You're totally fine." Claire grimaced, standing up and grabbing a nearby trashbin and setting it in Sherry's lap, before kicking off her ruined shoes and tiptoeing around the sick to get something to clean it up with. She got rid of it quickly, dumping her shoes into another bin, and grabbed her other pair of sneakers out from under her bed.

"Okay, c'mon. We're going down to medical to see what's going on." Because it seemed kind of unusual that a flu virus would just spring up out of nowhere. Claire wasn't a scientist by any means, but she was kind of an expert on how viruses happened.

Fletcher couldn't make heads or tails of how he was feeling. He was hot and cold all at once, burning up but at the same time shivering from a chill. He'd woken up early to get a head start on his work, but he felt too bad to even go anywhere.

"Nanashi...?"

[identity profile] in-venting.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't want to..." Sherry's shoulders slumped. Couldn't she just be left alone? It was probably nothing, maybe she just had some bad grey goop. Knowing that her mother wouldn't take no for an answer, no matter what, Sherry trudged into her shoes and spat into her trash bin.

The worst part about it was the taste just... sitting there. In her mouth. She was particularly quiet as they walked down to Medical, and even though she still looked like warmed-over death, didn't slump like a sick person normally would have. If anything, she was fidgeting.

Nanashi was wide awake, and had been for some time, feeling much the same, but she couldn't understand how that could be. However, with the look on Fletcher's face, she knew she wasn't alone, and that meant that her own feeling was unimportant.

She swept over to him, touching his cheek and then his forehead and frowned, "oh, you're burning up little one, what's bothering you?"

He curled up in a little ball, drawing the blankets tighter around himself. "I don't know... I feel really cold, and... and like I want to throw up."

His mind raced as he tried to figure out what it could be. Had he picked up something in Hydroponics, or some slow-acting virus on Zokez II? Had someone podpopped with the flu and it was just now making the rounds?

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nanashi pulled the sheets off of her bed and covered Fletcher with them. Of course over the years some of her human children got sick, and she knew the standard practices. Use cold water on a cloth to keep the fever down, and usually a few drops of her blood would quickly kick the sickness out of their system, however, she was not feeling right herself. She was not about to risk having her blood get him sick with something else. Something that could stand up to Vampire blood.

She grabbed the garbage pail and brought it next to him in case he felt that he needed to use it. Brushing his hair away from his face she asks, "Have you been anywhere unusual? Have you seen anyone who is sick?" Aside from her, of course. She was feeling rather pale, though with her skin tone, it was probably hard for anyone without enhanced vision to notice. She also felt, as Fletcher said, hot and cold at once. She never felt cold. Not like this. This was uncomfortable. Temperature never really made her uncomfortable. And this nausea. She felt as if she had just eaten mortal food, when she knew she hadn't.

Her gut was telling her that she very well might be the first of the two to need that garbage pail.

"Nuh-uh..." He shook his head. He was practically cocooned in those blankets, trying to stop the chills. "I don't think so... Just went to the city and Hydroponics. And the mess hall."

Nearby, Jujube whined. Something was wrong with his human, and he didn't like that.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
Nausea... it could be something he ate, but Stacy was supposed to be very careful about that, plus she hadn't gone to the mess hall in a while. Between Rei and the stockpile from Zokez II she hadn't had the need. She had been in the city though, and illnesses could spread quickly across a city, though the city in the ship was rather different from the usual city.

She scratched behind the dog's ear and lifted him up onto the bed. Not only did Fletcher cherish the little alien dog, but his body heat would help Fletcher warm up.

She shivered and adjusted her cloak before stroking Fletcher's back. "You should rest. Sleep." She had a feeling that wouldn't happen if he felt like her, like she had to get up and go do something.

The Factory

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This wouldn't do, not at all.

She'd come back from her stint with Evangeline to rest a little, and found that her body seemed to be delaying in its usual reaction: it was as if there was some block on her disallowing the usual functioning of activities for her. The last conclusion she was going to go for, of course, was being sick: whoever HEARD of such a thing, a demon getting sick?

Nonetheless, she was beginning to feel steadily worse, and the idea of staying in the city seemed like less of an option to her. She felt a shortness of breath and a rising heat infecting her body. Ignoring it wasn't making it go away either.

With a frustrated sigh, she roused herself, then turned to the back of her, hearing the questioning squabbles of her creatures.

I'll be back. Protect this place. I have to find out what oddity is causing this. Do not venture out.

She staggered out of the factory, unwillingly leaving her Silent Hill. There had to be an answer for this.

The puppy nuzzled up close to Fletcher, but the boy wasn't in any mood to sleep. "I'm not tired," he grumbled.

Hope I'm not intruding, I can delete if I am ^_^;

[identity profile] ruffntumblenut.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ruffnut was wandering about in an unusually good mood. Training with the Overlord was taking her mind off the things that usually annoyed her.

Let's see how fast we can ruin her good mood shall we?

A sudden shadow on the ground awakened the Dragon hunter training and she scanned the skies automatically for a death threat from above. Then she spotted the strange winged creature that didn't resemble any dragon and was forced to remember the only two dragons on board were Kang and Toothless.

As far as she knew anyway.

Wait, was that thing a kid?

Wait was it coming in for a crash landing?

Another instinct kicked in and before Ruffnut could stop herself she was scrambling to catch the thing, whatever it was.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He was feeling exactly the same as she was. That was bad. She stood up and stroked Fltcher's face, "Come on dear, we need to ge-" She couldn't stand the nausea any longer. Her body did it's best to throw up, but lacking actual bile all that came up was the small amount of blood she had taken as her last meal.

She wiped it away from her mouth, instinctually licking it off her hand. It still tasted absolutely normal, which made sense given her physiology. However she was rather confused. She had never thrown up blood before. She shook her head and continued, "We need to get both of us down to medbay."

Fletcher watched Nanashi and flinched. That was just-- gross. And Jujube whined.

"Do we have to?"

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She was glad she had brought the pail over, as it meant there was nothing to try to clean up. She stood again, as if nothing had happened, and gave Fletcher that motherly glare, "You are burning up little one. That is very bad. Now, I can carry you down, or you can walk, but either way, you are coming with me." She was more than happy to carry Fletcher, but she had the feeling that walking would help relieve that feeling of restlessness that they both had.
greennotgold: (Quit picking on me!)

[personal profile] greennotgold 2010-09-26 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Fletcher groaned and pushed himself up so he was sitting. Maybe going there would help... Nanashi was an adult, she knew best. "Okay... Jujube, stay here," he ordered.

[identity profile] sanguineroyal.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
She held her hand out with a soft smile, "I'm sure the doctors can do something to make you feel a little better."
greennotgold: (Awwww)

[personal profile] greennotgold 2010-09-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded, took her hand, and stood up. He was a little wobbly on his feet, and all of a sudden he found he really needed to use that bucket. So he did.

"...'kay," he finally said weakly. "Let's go."

[identity profile] psi-flames.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Jono didn't sleep a lot. He didn't really need to, what with the way his body worked. So he spent the time walking wherever his feet took him when he wasn't working.

Today, he ended up in Hydroponics. He sat down by one of the trees, head back and looking up. He hardly noticed the sweat on his face, unusual because he didn't generally sweat much. There's bloody well gotta be a cool spot or two on this damn ship...

Something didn't feel right. Between the Council meeting and the strange message from Cortana that got cut off, Superman's mind had been racing. And now?

He just felt... hot. Slightly dizzy. Out of it.

From his flight in the City, the Kryptonian landed a distance away, rubbing his eyes. It was strange. He wasn't tired but yet, he felt sick.

That was a first and that wasn't right.

"You've probably just got a flu bug, or something," she responded kindly, though her mind was going anywhere but.

When they got down to Medical, Claire's worries were only increasing. She'd expected to have to carry Sherry most of the way, but the little girl was twitchy, which was...weird.

"Hello, is anyone around?" Claire called into the medical bay, keeping Sherry ahead of her as they moved in. If she couldn't find anyone in here, she'd probably drag Sherry across the hall to Contagion. Luis or Scarlet would be just as qualified to take a look at her.

Ax took yet another deep breath and tried to focus on balancing lightly on his hooves. He had been practicing tail-strikes for the last...well, it was hard to say, but he knew it wasn't long enough for him to feel tired. Not that he felt tired, far from it, he just felt as if he had to focus to keep his hooves on the ground.

And warm. He ought to find someone and ask if Stacy had a reason for boosting the temperature.
