Peace of Mind [Open]

One of the few downsides of having brain powers was that you really couldn't let your mind wander. This held true, even for Julian. Despite his normally flippant and flirty attitude, he always kept his powers on a very tight leash.

Perhaps that was part of the reason for the attitude to begin with. He had to restrain his powers, so maybe he let personality run wild to compensate.

It's possible, but that was neither here nor there.

Still, even he needed to relax that part of his mind every now and again. He had a lot on his mind anyway, some decompressing would do him some good.

He could have chosen a sensorium, but elected for a rather quiet spot in the city instead and let his powers uncork. There was no explosion, no sudden lifting of buildings, or anything nearly as destructive as that. Just a strange green glow as energy started to pour out of him, slowly swirling around him in a free flowing current. He allowed himself to be enveloped by it, to float in it, and to relax that way for just a little while.

"'Trapped in celibate singledom.'"

"Yeah. Now that we can remember people were here--my girlfriend was here. She must've got repodded. I tried looking for her, but you know how huge the Pod Caverns are. Even at superspeed..."

Aside from that, if being outside meant her soul could fall out like it apparently was falling out, it was better she was in the pods.

"So I'm kinda screwed here--or more like unscrewed."

Julian tried to remember who Kon was talking about, and after a moment, he did recall a face. Luckily, his 'Do not nail' list was far shorter than 'hit that' list.

"The hot blonde chick with the lasso?"

"Cassie. Yep."

"Wait for her..... nail someone else. Wait for her.... nail someone else," Julian mused, mostly to himself.

"That's a really tough choice." Consider that a compliment on how hot your girlfriend is. "How long has she been gone?"

"Couple months now," said Kon. "Hard to tell. You know how it is."

"Hmm." He had to do a little math on that.

"Doesn't that fall under the 'extraneous circumstances' clause?" Leave it to Julian to know every possible loophole to get out of a relationship.

"I'm not giving up on her."

"It's not giving up, per se. But you can't tell me you're enjoying this forced celibacy thing.

"Besides," he said, looking over at Kon, "if its one thing I managed to figure out, its that you can't have much of a real relationship when half of the people in it aren't there.

"How long do you plan on keeping this up?"

Not that Julian could blame him. How long had he held on to things between himself and Sofia?

"Give it a few months. After that," he grinned, "I'll throw you at the friend of the next hot girl I see."
