On The Prowl
Paco was a man on a mission. It was a very serious mission of the utmost importance.
Depending on the definitions of "serious", "utmost", and "importance" at least.
There were people on this ship that needed to either be recruited onto Team Have Some Freaking Fun, and there were people who needed to be marked down to be shanghai'd into having fun the next time the Team had a plan. There were also people who he needed to talk to talk to on general principle because they were his friends and what else were friends for?
In other words, Paco was bored and in the mood to socialize.
Denizens of Stacy, beware.

The bug's antennae waved around in the air, flailing in Paco's general direction. It seemed to be debating on whether to go investigate him or not.

And yes, he did notice that Chief hadn't technically answered his question. Which just made him grin a bit. Some people got alien puppies, Chief got himself an affectionate spaceroach. Why not?

It got up to go examine Paco more closely, making a series of little clicks and chittering sounds. It antennae-waved at his pantleg. Hello, Paco! Upon closer inspection it was apparently some sort of giant pill bug, the segmented carapace looked built for curling into a ball.

He grinned a bit at the second half of Chief's statement. "Sherry doesn't like it, huh? I guess that's not too much of a surprise. Girls don't seem to like bugs as much as boys do.
"So, other than befriending giant pillbug things, how are you doing?"
no subject
Not since the Ohm.
"I'm fine," he answered the second question. It was an automatic response, an acknowledgment of the question without really answering it.

But yes, Master Chief and his space roach.
"Must be pretty busy. But I guess that's good for you, huh?"

"Let's just say I don't take many vacations," he said finally.
The bug seemed to enjoy the attention and scuttled around Paco.
"How are you, Guzmán?"
no subject
Not taking vacations wasn't healthy, Chief.
"I've been doing okay, mostly," he said with a shrug, twisting his metal fingers around to see if the little buggy wanted to chase the red laser dot. "I think I'm used to the new arm now. Definitely makes me popular with the pets."
no subject
"And it's not a pet. Minute I figure out why it's following me, it's gone."
The bug, completely unconcerned, tried to "taste" the laser dot with its antennae, scuttling after it. The Chief hadn't ever been much for pets, most animals just instinctively didn't like him. He was sure the bug had to be defective.
no subject
He grinned, mostly at the ground and the bug, but at least partially at Chief. "Uh huh, sure. It just doesn't bug you enough to actually focus on getting rid of it, right?"
He laughed more, making the red dot zig and zag back and forth in front of the bug, leading it around in circles.
