Of Wizards and Other Divine Things

Title: Of Wizards and Other Divine Things
Location: Stacy; Engineering

It had taken him not too long to realise that an interdimensional wizard had made his way into Renne's expansive panthaeon of Deities. Whether he was a Deity or not had become irrelevant, much like Imhotep being deified in Egypt's Old Kingdom. And it was to this wizard Renne prayed, worshipped as he worked. He'd come to love this place, this strange building with its secret song but it had become a love that set this place apart as sacred, holy.

"You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be."

Constant softly-spoken prayer and song are his mantra as his hands work steadily on this strange device. It's a golden thing with a single, broad blue stripe, taken after a Pharaoh's death mask, except this is nothing to do with death and it isn't a mask. At the converging center point of this vaguely triangular piece, a silver diamond sits emblazoned with two unicorn's heads with their horns crossed.

He smiles upon checking his work. The easy part is completed now, with the faint blue tinge set on the unicorns' heads. The hard part is what comes next and his fingers carefully touch a place between the unicorns' heads. And he crosses his proverbial fingers.

You raise me up...

Billy's wanderings are taking a rather familiar path today. After all he's done to move on from the recent trauma, he thinks it will be a comfort to retreat to this familiar place.

Of course, he's not entirely surprised to hear that a certain someone else is already there. Is Renne too busy for visitors?

Billy decides to sit just around the corner, leaning against the familiar building. Here, he listens and waits for Renne's reaction.

From his position around the corner, Billy spies the shine of gold and silver near Renne's paws. What could that be?

Whatever it is, it seems that Renne's ready for him. Eager to discover what's going on, the human steps away from the wall and closer to his brother's craft.

"What's going on?"
morphitudinous: (This is incredible)

That...well, it didn't quite surprise Billy, but it awed him. The shield was beautifully crafted and made of materials that looked quite rare. It almost gave off the appearance of being made for royalty.

Noticing Renne's struggle, he walks over to help Renne set it down. "Here, let me help with that. It's...wow, you're great at this. I'm sure the crew would be impressed if they knew!"

Other, more personal feelings were bubbling up within him at the sight of it, but those would come in time.

"That Zordon would like it? I'm sure he'd want me to be protected, but...I've never been in possession of a shield before. When he was the Green Ranger, Tommy had one. He lent it to Jason and Zack when they were in need of extra protection during battle, but I was never in that situation."

Honestly, Billy wasn't sure how he would feel. It was beautiful and would serve him well, he was sure, but he'd never had that weight on his shoulders during a battle before. He'd have to get used to it, and that was something he fully intended to do.

"Should I try it on?"

Oh no.

Renne's taking it the wrong way---no, of course he wants it! He'd have to be an incredibly cruel and short-sighted person to refuse such a thoughtful and amazing gift. Those thoughts leak out, and they're shoved in Renne's direction just a little.

"I would be foolish to refuse it," Billy says decisively. "You don't need to bow like that---you haven't offended me in the slightest. I was just starting to feel nostalgic."

To prove his point, he extends his fingers to touch the shield again---and when he does, his Power Coin seems to light up of its own accord.

Hopefully those feelings will fade soon.

Billy's committed to reassuring his brother and making sure he understands, but the human's just...engulfed in a column of white light that makes it rather difficult to talk.

When the light fades, the person kneeling in front of Renne is fully encased in his blue and white armor with an added flair. Yes, that's the shield gleaming magnificently on his shoulders.

"Wow...Renne, you really know how to make a shield." Just like that, the thing had morphed him and integrated into his standard uniform.

"It's okay," Billy assures, catching one of Renne's paws in his gloved hand. "My Power Coin reacted when I touched the shield again."

He smiles under the mask, guiding Renne's paw to the silver diamond of the shield. "Morphing felt slightly different this time. It's hard to explain precisely what the change was, but it felt like you."

"No, I'm not hurt. I'm not sure exactly what happened. It happened so fast."

After a few moments of quiet thought, he hypothesizes: "I think it reacted that way because it was your gift. A part of myself recognized that, and because the Power is part of me, it decided to integrate the shield. It should appear every time I morph from now on."

He can't help but wonder what it looks like on him---shame there are no mirrors around. But he trusts that it's a decent look.

"What is it? Renne, you know you can ask me anything. I'd be an awful scientist if I refused knowledge to you."

Congratulations, Renne, you now have Billy's curiosity turned on extracting your questions.

"Can't I be the judge of that?"

It really hurts Billy that Renne thinks he can't ask.

"That's all?"

Billy has to bite his lip to keep from smiling. He'd been expecting something deeply embarrassing. This question was one he could try to answer.

"We weren't told exactly how they work, but this is what I know: first, it's obviously not magic, otherwise you would have reacted badly. Then...

"When I activate the Power Coin, it establishes a link between my Power Morpher and the Morphin Grid. The Grid is an energy field that exists all around us---in a way, it's a component of life itself. Through that link, my morpher draws power from the Grid and injects it into my body. I become stronger, faster, and more alert for the duration of the morph."

"The energy that doesn't enter my body lingers outside it, forming a casing around me. It passes through my clothes, teleporting them away and storing them within the morpher until I de-moprh. Then, when the energy's on my skin, it draws on the pattern stored in the morpher and solidifies into my uniform. All of that happens in an instant. Then, when I de-morph, the uniform pulls away, my clothes are teleported back into place, and the energy flow from the Grid stops. It almost feels like what happens after you eat white chocolate."

The simplest comparison he can think of, even if it's not the best. "I don't completely understand it either, Renne, so I'm sorry if that was a poor explanation. There wasn't much time to research the details on my former world and I haven't located that information here."

"It feels...almost like being electrocuted. I've been electrocuted before, and it's quite painful, but morphing isn't. The sensation's a tingling that spreads through my body in a rush. During the battle, that little buzz is always there. And...how do I feel?"

That takes a moment to sort out. "I feel strong and cofident. Not to the point of recklessness, of course, but I have the courage I need to act. I just know hat somehow we'll find a way to overcome the challenge in front of us."

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2010-09-12 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. The uniform looks and feels somewhat flimsy, but it's a tradeoff between letting us move freely and absorbing damage. When it's hit, fibers in the fabric distribute the impact over a bigger area so that it doesn't hurt as much. It's almost like people wearing large webbed snowshoes to distribute their weight so they don't sink as far into the snow as they normally would, except that it's worn as a shield by the snow instead of the person's foot."

Billy runs his fingers over the shield again, thinking that he should probably find a mirror before he de-morphs. "I think it will, unfortunately---but it will come back every time I morph, like Tommy's shield did. Even if it somehow got damaged, it would regenerate as new every time."
