Worlds Apart [closed] [Set before moleplot and aliensplot]
After training with Zuko (and a shower), Hiccup had just wanted to relax. That meant a trip to Hydroponics, for fake sunshine on his face. At least until he got under the shade of a tree with bright pink leaves, anyway.
It also meant hanging out with his buddy.
There was outright giggling as Toothless nudged his side, rolling him over so that he could squeeze in under the shade, curled around his boy, and then Hiccup lay there against his dragon's side, one foot gleaming in the light, the toes of his other foot wiggling in the grass.
One hand idly reached up and over and scratched the dragon's neck so that his whole body rumbled as he purred.
The teenage Viking looked half-close to drifting off for a nap, but that wouldn't stop him from saying hello to anyone that passed by.

That was even sort of a question. Why keep his leg simple when he could have a knife in it or something?

How did he put this?
"Let me just say toilets are a whole new concept for me. I won't even get into cars and guns. So I figured if--when--our worlds are restored, my leg should be something I could just repair in the forge. The simpler the design..."
There was a pause as he stopped prodding at Paco's arm. "Lasers are...beams of light that burn things, right?" he said, trying to recall something he'd read in one of the many books he'd downloaded from the Media Library. "That must be handy."

"Yeah, they are," he said. "I can dial 'em down to low-intensity though. At which point I have cat toys and no cats. Maybe it'll keep the alien dogs entertained too, haven't checked yet."

He thought they were all weird, with the flushing.
"Cat toys? You mean like--oh!"
The "oh" startled the dragon awake and he turned and looked at the newcomer, sniffing the air to get a whiff of him, and shot Hiccup a look as if to say "Excuse me, was napping here."
"Sorry Toothless."
Hiccup turned back to Paco.
"Do it now. The lights on the ground." He pointed to a little patch of ground near them. "I do it all the time with Toothless. Not with lasers, usually just with something that reflects, but he loves it. He could play like that for hours. Watch."

But then Hiccup made his suggestion and a grin flashed across Paco's face. "Oh man, this sounds awesome." He gave his mechanical index finger a couple of twists -- one to set it and one to turn it on -- and a red spot appeared on the ground in front of Toothless' snout and danced over the grass.

The dragon watched the red light with curiosity, and then slinked along after it, hunting it. Eventually he pounced just as the light darted away. Tongue lolling, Toothless resumed slinking after it, even as it darted around. Even though he couldn't catch it, he seemed to be having fun just giving chase.
A broad grin was on Hiccup's face.
"Oh! Oh, almost got it that time, buddy!"

"Okay," he wheezed, steadying himself a bit with his other arm. "Definitely better than cats." And he was definitely jealous that his world didn't have this kind of dragon.
no subject
"Dragons are way better than cats," Hiccup agreed, patting the ground near him, getting Toothless's attention again. The dragon came over and flopped to the ground next to him, head in Hiccup's lap. Hiccup proceeded to pet his scaly noggin. "Then again I'm biased."

Paco twisted his finger again, causing the laser to vanish now that Toothless had given up on capturing and eating it. "So, how'd you end up meeting this guy anyway? Or does your world just have really awesome pet shops?"
The kid clearly adored his dragon, what better way to start off a discussion with him?
