We will all go together when we go [Closed to bomb teams]

There were 8 bombs spread around the ship. The teams were assigned. They had their orders, now they had to carry them out. And pray to whatever they held dear that they could disarm them in time.

Tick tock.

He sighed. "There's only so much I can do with electronics," he said, shaking his head. "I could poke at all the wires and hope that my danger sense kicks in a second before I rip out the wrong wire, but it would probably be better if we could figure out what the bomb's guts look like."

Lowe nodded at what Ben said. He turned to Tenaya, an idea forming.

"I think we can try to deactivate it without poking the wires." he said. "You think you could tap inside it... Tenaya, right? With you and 8 hooked up, it would be double the systems working against it. Might be able to get our searcher in on the fun if I could get it just right!"

"Now that sounds like a plan," Tenaya answered, grinning slightly. Using her as a portal into the computer was the fastest way in.

She plugged in, her eyes lighting up. "Let's get to work."

He let himself smile faintly, but the dull pressure of his danger sense still hadn't abated. "Sounds like you have it under control."

Lowe grinned widely. At the very least, it should help make up for failing to detect it in the first place.

"Awesome! Let's get ourselves hooked up and get working!" he said, attaching 8 to a panel and setting up a keyboard. "Let's... try not to wander too far. I don't wanna hit something and have Stacy punish us. I've heard some stories..."

The idea of punishment really didn't deter Tenaya. But the idea of blowing up did.

"Let's just concentrate on the bomb," she decided. The code streamed through her mind, and she whistled as she read it. "Impressive stuff. Definitely more advanced than I'm used to."

That was...kind of scary, to be honest. Or it should have been. She dealt with high levels of technology for as long as she could remember. Tech levels had been entirely redefined on her world, and she was an example of one of the highest levels achieved.

And yet, this was actually kind of exciting to deal with. Like trying to hack into Venjix all over again, but without the fear of the Command Tower crashing to the ground.

"You think you can take it out by shutting down the software?"

"Well, it's either that or toss caution to the wind... and right now? I'm not sure we can risk that." Lowe said, shaking his head. He brought up the screen and let out a sigh - Tenaya was right, this was a BIT different that what he was used to.

"We're gonna need a miracle to get this stopped." he said before starting to work. "You think you can tell us if we're boned, kid?"

"Preferably before we get blown up real good," Tenaya deadpanned.

She zeroed in on a portion of code, displaying it for Lowe. "This look like a detonation command to you?"

Ben settled cross-legged on the floor and breathed deeply, slipping into a practiced meditative state and concentrating his awareness on the three of them and their target. "It doesn't feel like you're about to blow us up. Well, no more than it has for the last few minutes."

"So, we're no closer than before..." Lowe muttered. He looked over at what Tenaya brought up and looked. "Seems like it. A little odd, though."

[Red wire, blue wire... isn't that nice...] 8 muttered. [No way we can just shunt this out an airlock?]

"Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb..." Lowe muttered. He brought up another set of code and sent it to Tenaya. "Seems like a safe one. Don't you think?"

"Safe as everything else I've seen," Tenaya answered. "Any objections, oh Detector of Danger?"

Her tone was only gently mocking, a change from usual. It was a tense situation, and she didn't need him too offended to work.

"No, but don't punch random numbers just because I'm not picking up on imminent doom."

"Right, right... can't push our luck here..." Lowe said, bringing up more code and examining it. "Once this is all over, I'm really studying up on all of this alien mumbo-jumbo...!"

[It's like finding a needle in a haystack...!] 8 spoke up.

"But this is one needle we're finding... with a very powerful magnet!" Lowe said.

"Hate pressuring you guys, but we have no idea how long until this thing goes off," Tenaya reminded them. "We might have to take a chance here."

"We've got a while before the hour's up," Ben pointed out. "Don't rush it completely."

[identity profile] kitbashurgundam.livejournal.com 2010-08-27 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right... if worse comes to worse, we'll just delete the whole damn thing." Lowe said. Yeah, that WAS real risky, but at the same time, he'd do anything to protect the bridge.

Tenaya continued to parse through the code, trying to make sense of it. Much of the language frankly didn't compute for her, but she made sure to keep track of it in her memory, in case anything came up that looked familiar now or later.

"Anything else look promising?" she asked.

This was going to be one of the toughest things Lowe had dealt with - an alien bomb with alien code set to go off pretty soon. They had to work and work fast...

"Right... we gonna need all the help we can get..." Lowe muttered.

Re: Bomb 8- Ben Skywalker, Lowe, Tenaya

Familiar bits of code streamed through Tenaya's vision, and she cross-referenced them with the bits she'd saved in her memory. Most importantly, the code she was recognizing corresponded to numbers.

She smirked. "I think I've found something. It's some kind of loop code--looks like it's for the countdown."

The code for the detonation was automatically set to "off"--after all, it couldn't be allowed to explode before time had passed, right? They just had to alter the command so that it remained off.

"Can you kill the bomb with it?" he asked.
