Biweekly Warfare Training - Block Six
[REMINDER, GUYS. No one is required to tag to have learned anything in these classes. This is why we have the handwavey thread, and we keep you updated on what was covered. We'd at least LIKE you to tag the handwavey thread just to say your dude was there, so that if it comes up in conversation in other logs, everyone knows, but you don't have to tag in to the other subthreads. <3]
The atmosphere this time was vastly different than it had been for the past couple of weeks. The most noticable difference was that it was outdoors; the sun shone brightly, beating down on the military parade ground. Several hundred feet away, a massive wall could be seen, at least twenty feet tall, and the sounds of a city emanated from behind it. Occasionally, a pair of draconians would be spotted walking the ramparts.
The shooting range off to one side looked very out of place in the obviously medieval setting, but it was a necessity; that portion of the training was all Ronon's, and Kang let him have complete control of it.
An interesting addition to the piles of wooden weaponry was a wicker basket filled with strips of multi-colored cloth.
Ronon turned to his scaled friend. "Everything on your end is ready, right?"
"Yeah. Hopefully this won't go as badly as I fear," Kang sighed, squaring his shoulders and raising his voice so that everyone else could hear him. "We've got a few surprises for you all this time. Those--" he pointed at the basket "--are blindfolds. You can probably guess what they're for. Admittedly, I myself don't have much, if any, experience fighting while blind, so you all won't be the only ones learning something new over the next few days. The rest of them, you'll find out as the day progresses."
[Things to be covered!
THIS BLOCK HAS A THEME. And that theme is learning how to fight while relying on senses other than sight. For Tactics, they'll go over some military history from various worlds.
Previously!
April 26 - May 9: Basics of hand-to-hand, proper knife and sword handling. Important points: Eye contact with an opponent at all times, prevention of telegraphing moves, breathing, learning to read an opponent and spot weaknesses. Most of it so far has been defensive rather than offensive.
May 10 - May 23: More hand-to-hand, basic offensive moves with knives and swords, basics of guns.
May 24 - June 6: Basics of hand-to-hand, shooting practice with handguns and knife and sword training. It was the start of more offensive training.
June 7 - June 20: The beginning of Ohm training. Hand to hand as always. More Sword training. More shooting practice and gun maintenance. Gotta keep those guns clean.
August 2 - August 15: Revision of hand-to-hand, sword, knife and axe combat and firearms!]

Observers
Re: Observers
However today, Renne had gotten wind of this round's theme and curiosity had overwhelmed his shyness. Aside from that, being one that deals with lack of any sight on a daily basis, a small part of him postulates that maybe he might have something to offer.
Hence, the Renne carefully walks, trailing along the wall to his destination: A spot near to the edge fo the Sensorium chamber to at least have a moment to listen before deciding to either keep quiet or speak up.
Re: Observers
Nura had heard that Maydril had been attending these warefare training sessions and decided to exercise her will as a good mother and come to watch her surrogate child train, and also to give moral support if needed to (although she will always give support no matter what). She seats herself in a chair up at the front, crossing one leg over the other casually, and folds her hands in her lap.
Example hand-to-hand sparring
"Today we'll be sparring in front of you and then again, but with a difference. Pay close attention to our movements and take notes on our forms and where we aim for."
He turned to Kang and stepped back.
Re: Example hand-to-hand sparring
After a moment's pause, Ronon burst into action and quickly closed the gap between the two warriors to throw a punch to Kang's head.
Swords!
Hand-to-hand >:D
"Attackers, give your blindfolded partners time to adjust to their other senses and don't attack too hard. Give warning attacks here and there. I don't want to see any of you beating up a blindfolded person... yet."
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
To start she simply stood wearing the blindfold as a bandanna waiting for anyone unlucky enough to lack a partner to offer to spar with her.
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
"You have not a partner?" she asked. "May I partner you?"
Ruff might have a chance. Maydril hadn't entirely gotten the hang of being entirely silent in her armor...
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
Pulling her blindfold down Ruffnut assumed a stance that the fellow vikings on board would know as a dragon fighting stance which looks kind of like how a high school wrestler stands before lunging at the other wrestler.
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
She balanced on the balls of her feet and watched her opponent carefully, wary for the first hint of movement.
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
She said nothing more, breathing softly, and only watching to see if Ruffnut would stop herself. If she caught the jangling of Maydril's mail, the half-elf was still within grabbing distance.
Re: Hand-to-hand >:D
Tactics!
One of the wonderful things about the Sensoriums was the fact that he'd been able to pick and choose what he'd wanted from several other books and put them all into one package. He had notes for himself, on the important pages, as well.
"Take a book and have a seat. If there aren't enough, find someone to share with. In those books, I've compiled military history from several different worlds, mostly Earth and my own. I know this part is going to be boring, but it's important that you learn the history of battle tactics before applying them yourself. As of right now, there are probably only five or six people in this room that even know what a flanking maneuver is, and it's one of the most basic of tactics."
Re: Tactics!
Handwaving~

So he's still the class goat, though he does catch on to the tactics studies quickly and is willing to read if anyone can't.
Re: Handwaving~
Cassie also mostly focused on hand to hand but she did a fair amount of time training with knives and guns.
Loren and Sofia evenly spaced their time between all three.
Kawalsky spent his time with the guns.
Re: Handwaving~
The history of tactics mostly sustains his interest, although there's likely a few times where his attention will start to wander before he catches himself.
Re: Handwaving~
He does, eventually, manage to aim more or less at the target, though.
Tactics don't really interest him much, but the sword and hand-to-hand combat are interesting enough that he pays attention to the training.
Re: Handwaving~
Re: Handwaving~
Last but not least, he really focused on the tactics, and now plans to read those books in his free time.
Knives
"Grab a wooden knife and line up in 6 rows in front of me. We'll be learning more knife techniques today." Ronon summoned a random knife-wielding, human male via Stacy's Sensorium magic. "This is... Taric, for name's sake." He shifted into his fighting stance, feet apart. Ronon made a show of adjusting his grip so the blade was pointing up. Then he ducked slightly as Taric slashed in slow motion at Ronon's head, across his face. Ronon brought his left arm up to swat away Taric's arm while brining his knife down in an opposite diagonal slice fashion underneath the left arm to slash at Taric's body. Then Ronon 'stabbed' at Taric in the open abdomen area. Then Taric, in slow motion, brought his knife arm back and sliced down across Ronon's gut. This again was blocked by Ronon bringing his arm on the inside of Taric's knife arm and pushing it away, leaving Taric's chest exposed to Ronon. Ronon again, stabbed at the chest area. He continued this drill a few more times making sure people understood.
"Now turn to the person to the side of you and practice what 'Taric' and I did. Swap roles after doing 20 sets. Take it slow and when you feel more confident, try to get faster at it."
Guns
"As always people, we'll be practicing shooting until your clip runs out of ammo. Then it's the next person's turn."
Re: Guns
It was the principle of the thing.
"I'd like to have a word with you, Ronon Dex."
Re: Guns
At the Major's request, he nodded towards the side of the firing range where he could still keep an eye on things but be mostly out of earshot.
"You wanted a word?" He had no idea what the Major could have possibly wanted with him.
Re: Guns
"How busy are you, on this ship?" She asked, conversationally. After all, she had all the time in the world, or so it would seem.
Re: Guns
"..Uh, besides running these classes with Kang, I'm not really busy... Is there something you want me to do?"
Ronon assumed there was a favor she wanted him to do. The Major struck him as a let's get down to business type of person. He did have a lot of spare time from his class preparation that didn't take long at all. And now, since the classes were in the Sensoriums, he didn't have to prepare equipment like he had to in the past.
Whatever it was, Ronon was hoping the Major's request would be something more worth his while than sitting around and watching movies. Truth be told, Ronon was missing going out on the field. He seriously missed out on Zokez II.
Re: Guns
Re: Guns
He continued to study the Major's face but made no point of being discreet about it as he narrowed his eyes in consideration. "And what does this team do that Security and the rest can't?" By the manner of their conversation and Kusanagi's conduct at the sensorium challenge, it didn't seem like it was going to be a team most people would agree with. Ronon figured he wouldn't have a problem with that, especially if it was for a goal he could agree with.
Re: Guns
And with people like Superman aboard, who could enforce with dramatic invulnerability their own ethics...
"The laws set up by the people on this ship are a good tool to curb anarchy, but we are at war. The rules of engagement aren't going to be a consideration in every one of Kennedy's decisions."
Re: Guns
"... You don't win a war by being merciful to your enemies," Came the quiet reply. "Do the ship's leaders know of your team? The last time I went against the.. morals of the crew, I was thrown into prison."
Re: Guns
Re: Guns
Re: Guns
She held out her hand, a small earbud in place, ringed round with pliable, fluid plastic for a tight, comfortable fit-- a CODEC, "This will allow you to keep in touch with us- privately. There's a safehouse (http://robots-omgh8u.livejournal.com/tag/strike%20team) in the city, you should be able to find the location on your omnicomm, now that you've been authorized. Don't deplete the supplies by more than one fifth, if you can avoid it."
It shouldn't have needed saying that this was a secret, but with this crew...
"I'm sure I don't need to tell you that this group isn't openly recognized. There's enough naivete onboard that it could become a problem if this became public, and Kennedy might be forced to disavow all knowledge," she wouldn't blame him for it, either. Even the Chief had known the expediency of remaining in power himself and trusting his men to weather the storm for the sake of political leverage, "Got that?"
Re: Guns
"Since I'm a member of Security and I run these clsses, I can probably get equipment we need with relative ease."
(( OOC: btw i can't view the link you gave o.o do i have to friend him using the character journal?"))
Re: Guns
(( OOC: yeah you do, sorry (-_-); I forgot to say. Sorry! ))
Re: Guns
"I should get back to the class, Kusanagi," Said the runner, excusing himself.
Guest Trainer- Rtas 'Vadum
“Many of you rely on sight alone to face an opponent. In combat you must not neglect your other sense, to do so would be to invite your downfall,” His tone a commanding one, one that brooked no argument, “To that end, today you will learn to take advantage of your other senses, you will face an opponent that will take away the advantage of your sight,” letting that sink in briefly as he looked them all over, “You will face me,”
“You may use what melee weapons you are comfortable with, however do not expect this to be easy,” With that he would step back, activating his active camouflage as he did so. Speaking even as he faded from sight, “Who wishes to face me first?”
Re: Guest Trainer- Rtas 'Vadum
"I'm ready," she said, pulling out the katana given to her by Nanashi. It would mostly be for defense, as she wasn't an expert with it yet.
Re: Guest Trainer- Rtas 'Vadum
By the time the active camouflage had fully taken into affect 'Vadum was on the move, his motions surprisingly quiet for one of his size. The camouflage hiding him from view as he circled to flank Katara even by the time she confirmed that she was ready. Time to test her reactions. Not a second after she had spoken the Sangheili stepped forward and struck, a powerful blow aimed at her side with a balled fist.
Re: Guest Trainer- Rtas 'Vadum
But Rtas was a tough person to detect: the moment he disappeared, Katara felt an ache in her stomach, noticing exactly how quiet Rtas was moving. She swallowed, but continued to keep her ears open, waiting. Just after her "I'm ready," she realized her mistake of talking at all. She realized a presence a second too late and was too slow to sidestep the hit, taking most of the fist.
She swallowed a gasp and only steadied her feet, taking a breath.

Stepping in forward once more, this time in front and just that bit to the side he attacked. Only the slightest of blurs seen as his hand shot forward, this time open as he aimed for her neck. If he connected he would lift her from the ground easily, no Katara, he most certainly was not going easy on you, not that he would go easy on any who would face him.

Now that she's more concentrated, its easier to pay attention to everything around her, or at least what she thought of as a net of space around her. Now the moment the air space feels different, she can sense it without needing to see. When the flurry of movement happens, she shifts her leg back and ducks under her blow, her hands in front of her chest in stance.
She silently knew there would be no pity for her.
