A Step in the Flight Direction [Closed]

In the City, near one of Sherry's many hiding spots (safe until her parents decided to plug some kind of tracking device into her), a little girl and a little bird boy stood atop of a two-story whitewashed building. There really, logically, wasn't any reason for Sherry to be up here with him. But she knew, she just knew, that if she was down below, calling encouragement, Komali would probably never jump down.

Not that she blamed him, but as someone without wings, it was probably better that she didn't go flinging herself off of buildings. "It really isn't even that far down," she urged.

"I bet you won't even hit the ground."

«Your daughter-» She stopped. Crap, Sherry is running. Samus can't run so quickly with Komali in her arms. She shoves the omnicomm away and it crackles off on the channel, so she could go after Sherry. She didn't have much of a chance of catching her.

The Master Chief is doing a routine patrol of the city. Nothing out of the ordinary for him, but he's starting to think they may have finally eradicated all the dangerous crap that's known to live down here.

Wait, no. Peripheral vision. Movement. The Chief's head snaps toward a shadow, someone or some thing moving up an alley.

He rounds the corner.

Sherry, unfortunately, could not stop quick enough when Master Chief suddenly appeared from around the corner. She didn't even have time to screech in alarm before she ran face-first into his leg, and bounced off.

She laid there for a long moment, dazed, with the wind knocked out of her.

The Chief jumps back, not quite quickly enough to avoid impact though. His suit's shields flare up when the mysterious thing-wait-that's-a-child runs into him. He recognizes this kid.

"Sherry?" Oh jeeze, he didn't expect that. She just ran into him, though, she should be okay.

"Are you alright?"

And here comes Samus, jogging with Komali in her arms. She sees Chief with Sherry and pulls out her omnicomm which still probably had Leon on the line. She tosses it to Chief without even thinking.

"Get Leon. Keep her here until he gets here."

Samus is clearly a little (or a lot) angry. It's one of the few times she's been worked up.

"I have to bring him," she shifts Komali again, "to the medbay."

Komali clung grumpily to Samus, but the pain was starting to seep in now, and it plastered all his feathers tight to his body, making him seem even smaller than he was.

Samus was angry, and an angry Samus Aran had a sort of aura that made speaking, even to call Sherry a noony-head seem unwise. Surely, she was one, but something told Komali to hunker down, shut up and do nothing more than give a little wave at 'Mister Chief' over the broken bone that was really beginning to hurt.

Caught! AGAIN. She was getting tired of these faster-than-she adults that kept popping up. Sherry pushed herself to her feet and looked between Samus and Master Chief.

If she just thought of them like the monster dogs from way back then, then maybe... Well, maybe not Master Chief. But she could definitely make it around Samus, so...

Sherry tried to flee again. At least she was stubborn.

The Chief catches Samus' comm and, in short succession, Sherry. The Chief has a good grip.

"Yes ma'am," he replies.

<< Kennedy, this is Chief. I have Sherry at- >> he reads off their location.

He looks down at her. "What did you do?"

Seriously. He wants to know what the hell is going on down here and why Samus' bird kid is bleeding.

Komali still has his Comm, by the way.. He's not done yelling at Sherry yet.

Komali was unrepentant.

"She promised she wouldn't push me and then she did," He grumbled, unhappily, "And then she promised she wouldn't leave me if I fell, but she still ran away."

Sherry glanced at the ground, her lips a firm, if irritated, line. "I was helping Komali, and she," not Sherry, but Samus, "startled him and he fell." Whether or not the little girl had pushed him to begin with was fairly moot to her.

Komali would've been fine if he hadn't gotten scared. ...AND he was trying to yell at her!

Okay this had gone on long enough. Samus snatched up Komali's comm.

«I am ending this discussion now. Fight about it later.» Like after Komali is safely in the medbay. Then she can deal with this. She turns his comm off.

«Never mind. I'll be there in three, I'll sort all this out when I get there. If Samus is still around, just keep her from killing Sherry until I arrive.»

With her previous argument discussion with Komali effectively shanghai'd by Samus, Sherry puffed out her cheeks in annoyance. It wasn't her fault that Komali had hurt his leg. It wasn't! And she was going to continue to stick to her story until she was blue in the face.

Leon did arrive a few minutes later, looking even more linefacey than usual.

"Chief," he greeted, and gave the Spartan a nod, then he focused his attention on his daughter.

"Do you want to explain yourself?" Just tell him it was not what it sounds like.

The Chief salutes. "Sir."

He looks to Sherry, honestly curious. He's still not sure what happened.

"I was helping Komali." Sherry stated stubbornly. "Because he's had those pinions for ages and always talking about how he's going to fly. So we decided that he just needed a little push in the right direction for practice."

She looked entirely vindicated as she continued, "And while he only glided the first time, the second time he had it before his mom scared him and he fell." So, yes, in a roundabout way, she pushed him. Twice.
