If You Give A Winry A Robotics Book... [Closed]
Ed was beginning to think something was up. Winry had been FAR too quiet since the invasion and she KNEW his arm was broken -- the bruises he got from that were proof enough of that. But her usual workday was six days: three nights and three days non-stop. Even factoring in the availability of parts and labor, and the fact she was doing this for free now made him stop and wonder about all of this.
And put simply, she had been quiet for two weeks. And he had been without an arm for two weeks.
Pushing the door open to her workshop on the bus, he called out, "Hey Winry, I hate to bug you but did you get my arm fixed yet?"

Pushing the door open to her workshop on the bus, he called out, "Hey Winry, I hate to bug you but did you get my arm fixed yet?"

...fast asleep.
She was sitting in a chair, slumped over on the desk, a shining, glittering automail arm laying before her. It looked, on the outside, just like any other arm that she'd created for him, except with a few...subtle differences.

He looked over at the automail and whistled. "Wow, it looks good... I wonder if she's been working on this non-stop?" He sniffed the air and crinkled his nose. "Yeah... probably..."
no subject
"Oh, Ed! You...found it."
She'd wanted to show him the automail herself, but that was the price of sleeping on the job, it seemed.
no subject
He looked it over. Amidst the incredibly shiny appearance, he had a feeling there was something DIFFERENT about this whole set up. "Were you working on a new automail?"
no subject
She had turned in her chair so she wasn't facing the desk, holding the automail out in front of her.

He took off his jacket and presented his sleeveless shoulder. "Go ahead and put it in."

He still braced himself because he REALLY hated it when this happens.

Rotating his shoulder, he blinked. "And so much lighter too! This isn't going to cause problems is it? My balance might be off for a while."
Flexing his arm, he blinked as a random thought entered his head. "... wait, what sort of things did you ADD here? there's a noticeable bulkiness to it."
no subject
"Ah, that's where I put it."
A tiny little...almost switch.
"Press that."

There was a jolt, running down his arm as the arm began to break apart. For a second Ed believed that he had broke it and Winry was playing a cruel joke to wrench him, but the front of it split apart into four distinct pieces as parts flipped over and opened, his fingers slipping into a casing as the front began to hum.
kerr kreek kreeg jown went the arm as it fully locked into place, the extra mass unfolding into what he realized was a DAMN WEAPON.
"... this is incredible..." said Ed as his arm had shifted from a simple bulky automail to a damn energy weapon thrower. It was similar in nature to Paniya's leg weapon, but the overall design was meant for "point and shoot."
A wide grin split across Ed's face. "You really outdid yourself this time Winry! I can't believe you managed to learn all of this and applied it! You really are something."
no subject
Yes, seeing the fruits of her labor come to fruition really did feel good.
"I figured if you had some kind of built in weaponry, you wouldn't break it as often."
no subject
He blinked. "So how do I put it back to arm mode?"
no subject

"Looks like I'm going to have to ask Lt. Hawkeye on how to shoot straight," said Ed. "This is the best automail ever Winry."
no subject
"Just don't go around blowing things up. If I hear you're messing around with it too much..."
She let the threat hang there.
no subject
"Is there a charge limit to this weapon Winry?" Please say it didn't, Ed hoped.
no subject
It was a machine, after all, that needed proper maintenance.
no subject
The last was said with a laugh, knowing that a determined Winry was something out of nightmares.
no subject
And just how much was that...?
"I still need to work on something for Hiccup too, though. I think he'd like an automail leg..."

She would have to make something nice for him.
no subject
"Really though, this is the best present ever. Considering that the last one went out against our opponents."
He forced a smile, thinking of the ohm hordes as he impulsively gave Winry a quick hug.
no subject
He had surprised her, so she hadn't reacted at all.

"But thanks for getting this fixed for me Winry. This really means a whole lot to me."

He had a weapon to test after all.
