Proving Ground [ Open To All ]
The sensoriums made for a convenient training ground for all the right reasons, but most of all because they allowed Motoko to cheat. It hardly seemed fair for the world around to be controlled by whatever constituted the strongest mind, or the most established, but on these proving grounds, as ever, fairness was not part of the equation.
The world was a sleepy summer day, warm with cicada song and dry, ragged grass, knee-high in places, scorched to the earth in others. An abandoned, decrepit skeleton of a Soviet military base dominated the landscape, dotted here and there with holes like dark hollow eyes among the crumbling walls and roofless, exposed innards. Once, this place had been alive, and now it was as bleached as bones in the grass, as nature retook what man had conquered.
Here and there the rusted-out remains of tanks slumped where they had been abandoned. Red paint, incongruously fresh, marked a series of them as targets at the far end of a carefully 'makeshift' firing range, though most sat aimlessly, unmarked and unattended. The place nearest the door was dominated by one such tank, perhaps in slightly better repair than the others, and perched upon it was the reason for all the fuss and trials. Major Kusanagi folded her arms and leaned her back against the treads, casting a sidelong look at what was left of Section Nine.
It was going to be a long day.

Re: [ Melee ]
Kusanagi was low, so Tenaya went high, leaping into the air and kicking at her.
Re: [ Melee ]
"Cyborg?" She noted, unnecessarily. Tenaya's mass was enough to confirm it-- no all-natural human could put that kind of power or speed into their movements, not without augmentation, "So am I."
Re: [ Melee ]
The fact that she was also a cyborg explained it. Smirking, Tenaya responded, "Perfect. I could use a challenge around here."
She brought up her knee toward Motoko's stomach and cupped her hands together to try to strike at her from above. A clean fighter she was not.
[ Melee ]
To that end, Motoko didn't bother to dull her reaction time, moving with inhuman speed to block, both high and low with each arm. With her right, she twisted to grasp the girl's arm in a grip bolstered by mettallo-ceramic infrastructure, just below the wrist, where her arm had met Tenaya's. By the same token the Major turned her hand into the joint of her opponent's knee and chuked it aside with a force that could have shifted a parked car along the pavement without trouble. With the right, she lifted and pulled, stepping back to put Tenaya off balance, and bring her an opening that would have the Major's hand at her throat, unless she reacted otherwise.
That, or she'd injure the girl's arm, wrenching it at that angle. Either way was acceptable, really.
Re: [ Melee ]
With her left arm caught, Tenaya really didn't have much choice other than to go along with Motoko's movements. But she had no intention of going down that easily. She quickly detached her right hand, and it crawled up her shoulder and jumped to meet Motoko's attacking hand. Hoping it bought her enough time, Tenaya swung her other arm around violently, trying to break free.
Re: [ Melee ]
The loose hand latched onto her own, but it was essentially useless without an arm to give it leverage. In a fight with a less durable opponent, this would have been an advantage, despite what the Major would consider poor execution. Depending on it's relative strength, it could have...
Motoko shifted, letting Tenaya have her way in a feint, as if the girl had overpowered her, then deflected the gained momentum to the side. The Major's reach met shoulder rather than throat and prolonged the fight— she slapped downwards into the bones there to emphasize the toppling motion, already begun and now it was a struggle not to go down atop the girl. A step, heavy, but deliberate more than through, past her, bringing to bear a mass that outweighed a small car.

Re: [ Melee ]
Not a bad run. Not a good one, either, but it served the purpose of showcasing Tenaya's physical skillset admirably. Motoko stood up and took herself out of the girl's personal bubble without offering a hand up.
"Not too bad," She pronounced, folding her arms nonchalantly, "What maximum grip strength does that hand have?"
Re: [ Melee ]
"I haven't tested it under those conditions," she admitted. "It could probably break a human bone--the arm bones, at least. I mostly detach it for recon. But with remote, I can get enough power to throw someone aside."
Re: [ Melee ]
But recon...that could be interesting- and useful. Motoko had never thought of a modification like that— but then in a heavyweight like her, the structural weaknesses caused by that kind of joint would be crippling. Still, food for thought.
"What's it's range?"
