Proving Ground [ Open To All ]

The sensoriums made for a convenient training ground for all the right reasons, but most of all because they allowed Motoko to cheat. It hardly seemed fair for the world around to be controlled by whatever constituted the strongest mind, or the most established, but on these proving grounds, as ever, fairness was not part of the equation.

The world was a sleepy summer day, warm with cicada song and dry, ragged grass, knee-high in places, scorched to the earth in others. An abandoned, decrepit skeleton of a Soviet military base dominated the landscape, dotted here and there with holes like dark hollow eyes among the crumbling walls and roofless, exposed innards. Once, this place had been alive, and now it was as bleached as bones in the grass, as nature retook what man had conquered.

Here and there the rusted-out remains of tanks slumped where they had been abandoned. Red paint, incongruously fresh, marked a series of them as targets at the far end of a carefully 'makeshift' firing range, though most sat aimlessly, unmarked and unattended. The place nearest the door was dominated by one such tank, perhaps in slightly better repair than the others, and perched upon it was the reason for all the fuss and trials. Major Kusanagi folded her arms and leaned her back against the treads, casting a sidelong look at what was left of Section Nine.

It was going to be a long day.

(ooc: the slip was it being a revolver, and me not double checking the SPN wiki for the exact firearm. >.> "stainless and custom engraved .45 caliber Colt MK IV Series 80 1911 pistol with ivory grips" according to them. Mun knows a little about firearms, but clearly not as much as Dean. Just ignore his comment about semi automatics, sorry. *facepalms, mun was clearly too sleepy last night*)

Dean smoothly pulled out his gun, aimed, and fired, easily hitting each target.

"What's next?"

OOC: No problem; we'll hand-wave it. <3

"You familiar with any military rifles?" Bolt-action was for snipers, and between Briareos and Saito himself, that niche was already filled.

"Enough. Mostly from my dad, he was a Vietnam Vet. Marines. He made sure we knew enough to adapt to other weapons when we needed to."

Vietnam? Saito still wasn't used to the fact that some of the people here were from his past, and Dean hardly seemed old enough to be the son of a Vietnam veteran. Still, it wasn't all that odd compared to everything else around here.

He handed Dean an M16 that hadn't been there a second ago. The intent was obvious.

His dad signed up pretty young himself. They all had to grow up in a hurry though.

Dean took the M16, and checked it over for a moment. He took care of the bolt action, certified how the breech looked, took off the safety, secured it, aimed, and fired at the next target.
He wasn't as used to it obviously, but could adapt and fire at a target easily. This one might as well been a bullseye as well, if at least within range of one.

Saito didn't say anything about Dean's aim. "You have any military experience?" Dean didn't quite give off the vibe, but he wasn't coming off as entirely civilian either. Maybe it was his father's influence.

Dean shook his head, "I never served. But we're supernatural hunters. Anything nasty out of legends and folklore, where I come from? They're all too damn real, and you better be strong enough to take them out." Hell most hunters even called regular people civilians. So perhaps borderline pseudo-military. More mercenary though without pay if anything or vigilante.
