Relax I'm A Doctor [Open]

Ed had been surprisingly absent from the rest of the ship since his practices with other people. Without his arm, he was relegated to reading and working out his normal limbs, keeping fit.

But the library had been a source of entertainment for the last few days, and he was reading book after book, sketching out circles and going over books on human anatomy and the advanced medical science.

During the fight, something made Ed really take a good look at what he could do. Combat alchemy only took one so far, and while he was no specialist in medicine, he was also a scientist. And greatly interested in Rentanjutsu.

So, after a week of solid research, he was ready for an acid test.

Sketching out a circle, he placed small pointed knives he stole from the bus into a five-point circle and scampered back a little to allow his leg to rest in the middle of it. The next part Winry would probably MAIM him for, but he reached over and scarred a tiny little cut into his leg, just enough for it to bleed. It hurt, but Ed knew better than to try with a grievous wound.

"Ow. Okay, here goes."

Placing his hand on the circle, light crackled and Ed felt the unfamiliar sensation travel up his leg. It was like water, despite the throwing light everywhere. Finally, after a minute or so, he let go, panting softly. "That... felt different..."

Reaching over, he licked his finger and wiped the blood from his leg. Smooth skin. Carefully, he stamped his foot and then grinned. "It... worked...? IT WORKED!"

Ed threw up his arm laughing manically as he disturbed the sword on his side -- which fell down and with a thump, cut into his leg, gashing it open.

"... GAH!" exclaimed Ed as he grit his teeth. "Damnit that really hurt! Stupid sword!" And he punted it across the room before slapping his good arm to the circle.

Light flared and Ed groaned as the medical alchemy began to do it's thing. Not his most shining moment EVER.

Vivio had been doing other work within the Library at the time, seeing as her wounds were still healing (it was most like Fate who told her to not do anything reckless.)

Thus, upon hearing the strange sounds sounds from elsewhere, she opted to investigate... and promptly let out a surprised scream at all the blood around Ed.

"Wh-what did you do?!"

[identity profile] notsaintkaiser.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Vivio walked over and picked up the sword he had dropped, then moved to return it to Ed.

"...I hope you're gonna clean up your mess. I'm trying to keep this place straight...!" Vivio said, a more disappointed tone in her voice

"I'll get a few paper towels, maybe scrub the floor too," groaned Ed as he flexed his leg. "Sorry Vivio, I didn't mean to bleed all over the place."

He limped over to the chalk that fell to the floor and he sketched a circle around the pool of blood to widen the existing circle. Slamming his hand to it, it formed upwards into a solid mass like a ball and he picked it up. "Now I need a wastebin... Or maybe bring it down to medical to put it into biohazard."

Vivio blinked in surprise at what Ed had done. Despite what SHE could do, this was something a little out there.

"Um... I think taking it to medical would be best, really. Who knows what might happen..." Vivio said.

"Yeah... I don't think anyone would want this stuff," said Ed, considering the solid lump of crystallized blood in his hand. "Kinda creepy too, and considering what I've done with blood before..."

Katara, quite honestly, was exhausted. It had taken a lot to heal all those people and fight during the Ohm attack, and though she got adequate rest afterward, she'd barely allowed herself any time of rest afterward. After disappointing Arha like she had, she'd doubled her efforts in her Bene Gesserit training, noting Arha's tweaking she mentioned she'd do. They emphasized the importance of teamwork and not abandoning your friends in battle, something Katara felt she deserved, and so she continued in her training, writing down information she would go over in her quiet time.

Which was why she'd hauled tail to the Media Library for some extra help on stances and techniques, finishing off with several different fighting philosophies and different points of view on the art of fighting itself, and how it affected others around you.

So she was surprised to not only find Ed here, but bleeding all over the floor.

"Ed!" She exclaimed. "What happened? What were you doing?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"No kidding!" Katara exclaimed, examining the leg. "You really need to be more careful with this kind of thing, Ed! I don;t want you hurting yourself more! Nanashi would kill you!"

She examined the cut. "It's not a nice one, Give a moment to get my water pouch, okay?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I noticed," Katara said dryly, opening her water pouch, the water gathering at her fingertips and then floating about her hands before transferring to Ed's leg.

"Your alchemy is pretty amazing," Katara commented, working her hands over the wound. "I've never seen anything like it. How did you learn?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
"I see," Katara said. "In my world, we have some knowledge of science, but a lot of what we do, our bending, is something that happens at birth. We learn we have the gift, but to get anywhere with it we have to study, have discipline, see how much farther we can get with what we can do. It helps to not have a closed mind: when you limit what you can do, you can't really go farther with it."

She slowed the water. "I'm a healer: it comes with the bending, but it isn;t common. Only a few have the ability."

"It is," Katara said, glad that Ed was getting what her art was about, and happily, not calling it magic. "And as for those three states: I can make water ice, solid, liquid always, and then vapor, so that counts as gas, doesn't it? But like I said Ed, its a craft you have to perfect, like anything anyone studies."

She grinned, calming the water and smiling. "Feeling better?"

"Usually experiments like those are better left to the Sensorium or somewhere more secluded," Pirogoeth said, standing some feet away, holding a book.

"...but was that? Mine eyes hath never seen a magic that worked quite like that."

[identity profile] lastofkuith.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Pirogoeth walked over, looking at the circle. "Hmmm, it's more advanced than the alchemy in mine world," she said. She looked at his leg. "But it's an impressive feat to do without magic."

[identity profile] lastofkuith.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Pirogoeth kneeled down, setting her book to the side. "Let me see it. I am part of the Medical Staff," Pirogoeth said, looking over the mark.

[identity profile] lastofkuith.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm...it just looks like it was incomplete in the healing. Thou needed more power in thine process. Does it usually sting?" Pirogoeth asked, holding a hand over the mark, a faint glow coming from her hand to heal it the rest of the way.

Or at least tell her if there was something else wrong her eyes didn't see if the magic didn't work properly.

[identity profile] lastofkuith.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Did this May's healing usually sting?" Pirogoeth asked, pulling away her hand when the healing was complete. "Though practice does make it easier to gauge how much power thou needst for certain wounds, and with alchemy being a science, harder to adjust it at the moment without it. Still, not many can manage a healing their first time, no matter what the method."
