Medbay visit (open)

Giles still wasn't entirely happy about not being able to fight, but it would do no good to stay down there and get himself killed. He'd let himself be taken back aboard the ship and now he lay on one of the medbay beds, waiting his turn for a healer. Not doctor in this case, most of the ship's medical crew used methods that the doctors in his Earth would have been surprised by. He wasn't bleeding or anything, and he'd gotten some pain meds, but he'd still be glad to get it over with and get out of here. Giles had been in hospitals way too often over the years, and he hated them by now.

Katara finally had a chance for some breathing room, which meant she could personally look over some of the people in medbay, and came across the man that had been helping them with the Devourer worm earlier. She was sorry she hadn't gotten his name, since she was sure "hey you" wouldn't be the appropriate way to get his attention.. Instead, she knelt over him, trying to see where we would need healing.

"Hello, Katara said. "Can you tell me where you're hurt? I'd like to help heal you. You were with us earlier, weren't you? I didn't get to catch your name."

Giles...why did that name sound familiar to her? Well, she could figure that out later. What was important now was making sure that this man was okay. "You sound like you're in a pretty dangerous line of work, fighting huge worms and crazy armies. But I'm going to make sure that you don't go untreated, okay?"

With all of those injuries, she figured he was going to need a full treatment healing. She took a deep breath, and brought out all of the water that she had in her pouch and surrounded the man with a glowing blue, slowly starting all over his body. This was likely going to take most of her strength, so she knew she had to take a rest after.

She continued talking even as she was healing. "It figures: there are a lot of people here that are mentors. I have three already: one is teaching me the arts of a sisterhood order, two are teaching me hand to hand combat training and one is teaching me how to handle a sword. So far I'm a master waterbender and a pretty good healer, but I say why stop learning?"

And she agreed with the last statement. "As long as you know what you're fighting for, exactly."

She paused. "Wait a minute...you don't know anyone named Xander, do you?"

"Good," Katara said. "There's actually a lot you can learn from people here. Fighting, magic, I think somebody even knows alchemy."

She grinned. "Yeah, that's right! You're Buffy's watcher, aren't you?"

"Oh, I don't know about that, sir," Katara said. "I mean, I get that the Ohm pretty much might have made it that I'll never see my world again. I've had a lot of time to adjust to that. But right now I'm training in a Sisterhood that are dying out because in their world most of them were killed. But I plan, when I am skilled enough to teach on my own, to do that wherever we are. The Ohm is only really going to displace us when we allow them to take away the ability to adapt and live."

Katara nodded. "Yup! Here, Xander, and I fought a vampire guy once. I never did get to fight with Buffy, but from what I've heard, she's really good at what she does. The openness is pretty much because everyone has powers, or is a mutant or remarkable in their own way. About the only thing we're truly united on is defeating the Ohm."

"My world really has no words for something like dimension shifts and alternate time lines," Katara confessed. "To be honest, its still something I have to try and wrap my head around. But from what I see, I agree: a lot of it just seems to collide with each other, like there's no set rhyme or reason to it."

She nodded. "Oh, we have a few vampires on board. None of them are going around biting people, but then its pretty obvious why that's the case. One of my instructors is one though."

Katara nodded, thinking. "Well, I've met three. Sam Henderson seems to be the one that is working to downplay his need for blood, but it looks like a struggle. Evangeline, from what I hear, is a vampire but looks like a little girl. She's...both a bit cruel and still wise, but if you meet her don't tell her I said that. And then Nanashi is my trainer: proud, destructive in her day, and fiercely protective of children. That's what I know so far."

Katara looked a little bothered by the latter reaction. "Is killing the only way?" she asked, though a bit knowledgeable of the answer. "I mean, isn't there another way?"

She sighed. Evangeline...is like nothing anyone has ever met. I mean, I've met children that weren't great, but Evangeline is something kinda different."

She knew that name sounded familiar. "I feel like I met him once, but the memory is hazy. He was pretty difficult."

"I see," Katara said. She thought of Evangeline a moment. "Evangeline is definitely not a ravenous beast, she's pretty much in control of herself. I know she needs blood just like I know Nanashi needs it, but I'm pretty sure Nanashi has a donor, and with Evangeline...well, it might well be Negi. I do know something for sure: of all the vampires, I never met one with actual magic. Evangeline has that power."
