Work As Usual

Jean Grey sat at what she considered her 'desk', looking over the notes she'd jotted down after her last session with Sam. Working as usual. Frowning, she reached up, pressing the fingers of her right hand against her temple. Her head was beginning to throb and she knew that it was because she hadn't ventured far from the med lab and honestly she'd been so wrapped up in taking care of Sam that she'd hardly given herself a thought.

It was better that way though. If she kept busy she wouldn't have to think of... Anything else. Of Scott, the Professor, the school and the students.... And not of Logan either. Busy was good.

Lowering her hand, her eyebrows raised slightly, sensing the presence of one of the crew behind her. "You know," she started, her voice soft - keeping her back to the person in question. "It's not really polite to not announce yourself." She's not scolding - it's more... Like a reminder.

"Well it's nice to meet you Kate," Jean said, flashing the young woman a friendly smile.

"Do you mind me asking what your powers are?"

Why do they always ask that? Heroes don't have to have powers... Then again that Yeerk targetted me because I don't.

"You know there's heroes out there without powers? I have several fighting skills including archery, sword, and martial arts."

Jean's eyes widened a little. "I just assumed... I'm sorry." And she does feel a bit embarrassed for doing so.

"Well, you must be good if you're part of the Young Avengers."

"...That I was a mutant? No, just regular human. Two of my teammates, Billy and Tommy, they are. And all of us are good."

"Well, I'm hardly say you're regular. The ship obviously brought you here for a reason..." Jean nodded, wondering not for the first time how exactly people were chosen by the ship.

"Probably because I'm a fighter. Rumor has it she might be making an army."

Jean's hardly one for rumors, but at this point - it's better than no information at all. "Really? Do the rumors say why she might be wanting to build one?"

"War, invasion, it's all guesses and of course, can't ask because it's 'classified'."

Jean didn't like the thought of the ship having brought everyone here to be apart of some war or even an invasion. Though, it wouldn't do to just jump to conclussions before trying to find out more facts.

She frowns a bit and shakes her head. "None of this really makes any sense." Jean pauses, hating to ask so many questions, but she does have so many of them. "Did you mind if I ask you some more questions?"

Kate briefly gave a wary look, hoping her still troubled thoughts about the Yeerk infection and Paco weren't that obvious.

"Depends on the questions."

Jean had been tempted to ask questions concerning the ship and some of the others on board, but... Sensing Kate's feelings, Jean decided against it.

"Well, for starters... What do you do for fun around here?"

Smart move, for the wary expression faded into a smile.

"Not a whole lot, there's the media library. There's also the Sensoriums, holographic simulation room, but since it's through the brain, even the glop seems like actual food. So if you wanted to look like the Xavier mansion, it would."

"Oh I don't know about that..." Jean murmured softly as sadness washed over her. "It would seem a bit empty. I'm so use to it being filled with the others and the kids... And even if for some reason the place was able to make the people to go with it... It wouldn't be real, or the same...."

"It can, but no it's not the same. Nice to have something familiar though."

"That's true," Jean agreed with a nod of her head. "I might have to think about using it to make a Danger Room though..." She trailed off for a moment, and suddenly smiled again. "You wouldn't be interested in joining me for a training session or two sometime would you?"

"Be honored to," she smiled back after some initial surprise at the offer.

"Great," Jean said still grinning. "Just let me know when a good time for you is and we'll do it!"
