Work As Usual
Jean Grey sat at what she considered her 'desk', looking over the notes she'd jotted down after her last session with Sam. Working as usual. Frowning, she reached up, pressing the fingers of her right hand against her temple. Her head was beginning to throb and she knew that it was because she hadn't ventured far from the med lab and honestly she'd been so wrapped up in taking care of Sam that she'd hardly given herself a thought.
It was better that way though. If she kept busy she wouldn't have to think of... Anything else. Of Scott, the Professor, the school and the students.... And not of Logan either. Busy was good.
Lowering her hand, her eyebrows raised slightly, sensing the presence of one of the crew behind her. "You know," she started, her voice soft - keeping her back to the person in question. "It's not really polite to not announce yourself." She's not scolding - it's more... Like a reminder.

And not in the dirty gutter minded way either.

Awwww. No love for Sammy...no subject
And no, Sammy gets no love - Jean has enough men issues, no need to add to them.

"Well, I was pre-law, so I'm pretty good at research and cataloging stuff."

Ok, Jean, he got the hint: There wasn't bound to be much cataloging to do on a ship equipped with multiple A.I.'s and highly advanced computer systems. Nodding, he set the papers back down. This must have just been Dr. Grey's way of convincing him that--if he really wanted to be productive--he'd be of better use helping her to figure out what the different tools were for...even if it meant being a pseudo-guinea pig.
"All right, all right, I get the hint," he said, sucking in a deep breath and letting it out with an exaggerated sigh. "You need a guinea pig. Well, now you got one."

"What are you talking about?" She asked before reaching over and picked up an instrument that looked like a combination of a mini saw and something out of a denists office. "You're actually willing to let me use this on you just so I can figure out what it is?"
Damn Sam, you really are bored.no subject
"...on second thought, maybe not."

"So...uh...you're a doctor, huh?"
SMOOOOTH!! Look at me, my name is Sam and I'm SMOOOOOTH!!no subject
Really Sam?? That's a seriously lame line."And you use to be a pre-law student. So, next question?"
no subject
He's not trying to pick you up, Jean. Really, he's not. He's just really awkward talking to pretty girls, who he thinks are pretty. As opposed to pretty girls he has no interest in whatsoever.
"...where'd ya go to school?"
no subject
Wow, this is fun. Twenty Question!
"And you? Where'd you go?"

NO!"I mean, it made making friends pretty difficult. We never stuck around long enough to really get to know anyone outside of...well, outside my dad's friends."

"You, uh, you saw what my family does, right? You know, when you were helping me and everything? Well, that's basically why. I mean, it's not exactly safe and we're pretty much on the road all the time so settling down is pretty much impossible. And, over the years, we've made our fair share of enemies who'd like to see us dead or hurt the people we care about. So, settling down and doing the whole white-picket fence and minivan kinda life isn't really something we'll probably ever have."

"Well, you're not there now," she points out gently. "Not that I think you should go amongst the crew and try to find someone to start a family with." She grins at that one - she's really honestly not saying that.
"But, friends surely? We're all basically trying to do the same thing here. Get back to our worlds and lifes. Making friends wouldn't be such a bad thing to do."
no subject
He is silent again for several moments as he considers whether making friends will actually be worth it if they're just going to end up getting split up again to go back to the craziness that is their own world.
"So, what about? You got a family?" he asked, finally jarring himself back to the conversation.

"But I really consider the people I worked with my family." She frowns slightly a pang of sadness washing through her, but she quickly shook it off.
