"OW! That so totally hurts!" -- Charles Xavier

The battle against the Ohm raged on, and the casualties on the ground were mounting. Injured crew members got emergency treatment in the field, which largely amounted to patching them up so they wouldn't die sometime within the next fifteen minutes. After that, they were quickly picked up by shuttle and brought back to the ship, where they were sent to a medbay that was getting progressively more crowded.

The situation was growing increasingly dire, to the point that Stacy activated one of the AI's to help out.

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"You didn't have to carry me off over your shoulder as if I was some disobedient child," Nura says, pride wounded.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Katara shook her head. "You're a friend of mine, Nura, so I won't laugh. But come on: its a little funny now that we're all alive and recovering."

She thought so anyway. "I'm glad you're okay."

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Nura sighs, knowing that she can't begrudge Jeka much for doing her duty as a Legionnaire, and can't be annoyed with Katara for finding what happened funny. Because it really is something humorous...just not all that humorous to her.

"I'm glad you're OK as well," she softly says. "Did everyone else get out alright?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara decided that if she truly wanted to remain Nura's friend, she would promptly forget about that little tidbit if information. She could tease her about it later when it wasn's still so fresh in mind.

"Yeah," Katara said. "I've already seen Negi and Sasami, although I have to go find Giles. Haven't seen him yet. So far, everyone was all right."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's good," Nura says with a genuine smile and a nod. "Did the flight ring help in the long run?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yes," Katara said. "With the help of that, Toph and Negi's earlier weakening, we were able to take the worm out. That was actually where I got most of my bruises, to be honest. The rest were from the fire."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"You're a trouper, Katara." Nura says with a coy wink and laugh. "Later on, you have to show me your bending in a non-fighting-for-our-young-lives atmosphere." Even when Katara had been using it to down Grunt after Grunt and slash at the Devourer Worm, it had been definitely something to see.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her head. "I just did what I could to help, that's all. It was your help that was able to help me take down that worm with your flight ring. But if you really want to see me bending, I'd be happy to show you once you're better. But while we're on that, I'd like to see YOU in action too. I bet you can fly way better than I can."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
"You have a deal, little lady," Nura says with a laugh, reaching up to push back her long locks. Already plans are being put down in her mind.

And on a lighter note, her lips are quirk at the corners in a most devious smile. "Now, tell me more about these not nice men who think your innate talent is a party trick. I think I've found my first round of pantsing victims..."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Katara was glad to see that Nura was actually in high spirits: she'd hoped the injuries wouldn't have dampened her otherwise quirky personality.

"Oh, did I ever say that? I don't know if that was ever the case! People call it magic, but I don't think they mean the kind of magic with illusions and all of that. I think they think its really magic, like the kind Negi and Luna have to practice."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Nura isn't fooled. "Oh please, Katara. When you said 'intellectual types', it sounded like ice was moving in. I'm guessing they did more than just incorrectly assume your bending stems from magic..."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed. "I could make you a list of people who see what I can do and call it magic! No, the last time I was insulted was probably when Brainy called my culture barbaric. He meant that as far as other countries were concerned I was pretty backward, but I was really angry when he said it at the time."

She glared. "But if there was anyone that really gets me upset, its that PILOT girl, Asuka."

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Nura's eyes light-up. "Oh, well Brainy of course would have to fall not far from the Brainiac tree on personality." She laughs. "I don't think he meant you any harm...he might have just put that foot of his way in his mouth without realizing it." She knows what she's talking about. "I bet he's a lot like my husband, in that way."

She cocks her head to the side, hair sliding over her shoulder. "I'm guessing by lu of your tone, Asuka really gets under your skin."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I got over it after awhile. Just because my world was lacking the technological advancements of places doesn't make it barbaric. For all I know, staying a certain way might have actually been a good thing? But why would your husband be like that?"

Here, Katara twitched a little. "Asuka's fine...if you like arrogant, stuck up little know it alls who make more of their accomplishments than needed to make themselves feel better!"

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Nura tosses her hair over her shoulder with the sweep of a hand. "Because Brainy's my husband's counterpart. That's why."

Katara's tone went far over MIFFED and right to ZIZZED BEYOND ALL REASON. And Katara's a pretty nice young girl, so to be in a tiff with her must mean nothing good about the tiffee.

"I see. From the way you describe her, she doesn't sound like my cup of tea either."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Counterpart?" Well that was something she didn't get. How could you have a counterpart of someone who already existed? There was still so many things about this ship that Katara was trying to understand, it was typical something new would sprout up!

"YOU can like her if you want," Katara said. "Nothing's stopping you. I've tried to be nice to her about a million times, and they all end up with her calling me a 'bitch' or me freezing her in place somewhere. She can do whatever she wants. I'm not going to continue wasting time being angry at someone like her. That lowers my maturity, to stay mad at someone who loves to get on my nerves in the first place."

"No matter how much of a grindwump Brainy is, I think he can explain it better," Nura says, reaching up to push back a white lock to behind her ear.

"I think I'd rather avoid her at any chance, thanks," she says. Nura really doesn't like the sound of this Asuka girl. The girl sounds like a downright instigator. And with Nura's mild temper and stubborn complex, one insult here, the 'bitch' word thrown around; the chance of the two of them coming to blows would be very high. Something that Nura would rather avoid.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Grindwump? Katara shrugged. Now that she thought about it, even though she had no idea what that word meant it was likely to describe Brainy anyway. That, and well, if she ever ran into Brainy, she could ask him that question properly.

"I find that its better that way," Katara said, "not that I wouldn't help her if she needed it. You don't have to like someone to try and give them aid, right?"

[identity profile] crysteel-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"No. Not really," Nura puts it bluntly with a cheeky smile.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Still, I'd rather get along with people on the ship if I have a choice," Katara said. "Fighting the Ohm takes importance over everything."

She gazed around her.

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Getting along would decrease our chances of getting our nasses burned the next round we have with the Ohm." She arches her back and little and tilts her head back, feeling the muscles stretch in her back and neck. "But the reality is that some of us don't want to hold hands and sing Kumbaya all together. Some of us want to continue to poke each other with our sticks and lob stones at those we don't like." Sad, but very true.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I'm not going to do that anymore," Katara said. "It never works, never ends well. All of the fights in my world were successful because we were all united in the cause of ending the war in our world. Even certain masters in warring nations joined together in an effort to stop the madness that was consuming everyone. Every time we have a battle, we wind up bickering like little children, and it tears us apart. If people want to get mad at each other instead of fighting our threat, then they can do it by themselves. I'm not going to be a part of that anymore."

[identity profile] foreseen-future.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Nura takes a moment to look at Katara. To really look. The girl has spunk, that's for sure. And determination like no other. It's admirable, and certainly carries an inkling of rebellion.

"Then what the ship needs is group therapy of some sort. Or a Getting To Know You seminar." She's joking, a little, but also is considering the idea seriously.

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"We need to get out of our alcoves and really start meeting each other," Katara said. "I may have met a lot of friends, but that happened because I presented myself, tried to see the things the way they did. My world is nowhere near as advanced as many of yours, but because of where I'm from, it is in my nature to adapt to the situations that face me now. We need that too."

She took a drink of water: she was pretty famished "Pilots, aliens, witches, demons, angels, whatever we are, we're all stuck here on Stacy, and if we don;t band together, I'm afraid of what the Ohm will do to us the next time. If they make our disunity a target, how much easier will it be to defeat us?"
