The battle against the Ohm raged on, and the casualties on the ground were mounting. Injured crew members got emergency treatment in the field, which largely amounted to patching them up so they wouldn't die sometime within the next fifteen minutes. After that, they were quickly picked up by shuttle and brought back to the ship, where they were sent to a medbay that was getting progressively more crowded.

The situation was growing increasingly dire, to the point that Stacy activated one of the AI's to help out.



"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"Not here," Katara said, a little surprised he had just woken up so suddenly.
"I was just...talking out loud. But I knew a little about him: he was the one that led that Yeerk invasion. A lot of people thought that he was crazy and violent...but I saw he was trying to help people even if they didn't. I can see you were doing the same thing."

She gently wiped some of the blood off his face. "I can't so much for the internal injuries, but I'll do my best with the outer. I'm sure the doctor can help the concussion.

Even as he was lying there, it was obvious he was exhausted and worn out. Dean was fighting sleep.

"You mean you knew the old one. Or the other one Stacy grabbed. Not sure if my brother would, but he'd have his reasons for it. To save others."

It was apparent that Dean was tired, and Katara was sensitive to that. She brought a hand to his face, trying to clear up some of the bruises. Her chest still was twisted inside, seeing the injuries he sustained.

"Yeah, I did hear there were two. I wish I could have met your brother Sam. The one I met was very alone, but he stood by his decision, and he cared about the people on the ship. The Yeerks are something we still have to worry about, after all."

Dean wanted to ask about more about them, but his strength was fading. He could feel himself being pulled back under, and he gave up fighting it as he closed his eyes again.

He murmured as he fell asleep again, "Check library... the big geek."

Katara nodded as hew started to go under again. She had NO idea who this big geek was he was talking about, but she would look into it.

"Right," she said, and patted his shoulder. "Sleep well."
