The battle against the Ohm raged on, and the casualties on the ground were mounting. Injured crew members got emergency treatment in the field, which largely amounted to patching them up so they wouldn't die sometime within the next fifteen minutes. After that, they were quickly picked up by shuttle and brought back to the ship, where they were sent to a medbay that was getting progressively more crowded.

The situation was growing increasingly dire, to the point that Stacy activated one of the AI's to help out.



"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

Sasami took Negi's hand and went to sit down by him. Hopping up on the bed, she didn't let go of his hand afterwards, just looking at the boy as she did.

"That's good. Just... I wish there was more I could have done..." she said, letting out a sigh.

"We both do," said Negi honestly, pulling her close. "I wish I didn't have to leave the battle and retreat but here I am..."

"You did great though. Not many people can activate someone else's artifact."

Sasami blushed as Negi pulled her close and complimented her. As she spoke, she reached up and undid her pigtails, letting her hair fall loose, before draping an arm around him.

"Thank you, Negi-kun. Though... doing so was draining. I don't think I'd want to do that again. Especially when I'm hurt."

"In hindsight I should have realized that the incompatibility would have caused a problem," said Negi. "But I think it turned out alright."

He smiled at her when her arm was around him and he leaned in slightly. "I'm just glad you're safe."

"I'm glad you're safe, too..." Sasami said, leaning in as well. "...but, you need to be careful more than I do. I might not be around if you do something like that again..."

She was certain Negi knew what she was talking about - seeing him in that form scared her.

Magica Erebea. Surely he realized it by now what it meant. The power of the darkness, it's true terror was not just becoming a mad beast, but also swallowing everything up. It was a hunger which fed on raw "bad emotions" as it were, but more than that, turning it against the attacker, and killing them with their own energy.

"Sasami-chan..." He bit his lip. "When... Master has time, we'll be sealing that away, or fixing it at least. I can't say when but I'd like you to be there for me when it happens."

"Of course I would..." Sasami said. "...you know I'd be there to help you out if need be."

There was something worrying, though, about what he had said.

"Do you know how it's going to be sealed?"

"I'm not entirely sure," said Negi honestly. "I had hoped Master would know how to do so, before the symptoms get any worse..." And before he had any more demon-ish episodes to boot. "All I can hope for is that whatever Master does, I'll still be able to use it if push comes to shove."

Sasami looked down a bit. That wasn't good at all. And the fact that he was still willing to use it if things got worse?

"Negi-kun? Please... I don't think I can entirely stop you from using that but... I want you to be careful. I... I just don't wanna lose you. I... care about you..." Sasami said. She smiled as she leaned her head forward, pressing her forehead on Negi's head. "...besides, you still have a lot to teach me..."

"Sasami-chan..."

Her forehead pressed to his, he could look her in the eye. "I... I promise I'll be careful." He took her other hand in his and he smiled, a weak one but it was his attempt at being assuring. "I promise I'll be careful. Because I want to teach you more things."

Sasami smiled brightly as she heard his response. Part of her knew that he might end up getting hurt, but in the end, all she wanted was for him to be okay.

"Thank you..." she said. However, she didn't pull away from Negi after saying that...

Negi didn't either, and carefully, pulled Sasami to the bed. "I'm tired," said Negi simply as he curled up next to her. "Stay and sleep with me for a while?"

Sasami remembered how, when Negi first came here, he was made sure not to get around her when she slept. Now, it seemed like a different story, especially after their encounter with the Ohm.

"Of course...!" Sasami said, making herself comfortable in the bed. "...we both need this."

As Sasami curled up next to Negi, she realized that she was right - at the very least to make sure, when they woke, they were still there.

"Thank you." And Negi closed his eyes, safe and secure. And he knew that others would be too.
