"OW! That so totally hurts!" -- Charles Xavier

The battle against the Ohm raged on, and the casualties on the ground were mounting. Injured crew members got emergency treatment in the field, which largely amounted to patching them up so they wouldn't die sometime within the next fifteen minutes. After that, they were quickly picked up by shuttle and brought back to the ship, where they were sent to a medbay that was getting progressively more crowded.

The situation was growing increasingly dire, to the point that Stacy activated one of the AI's to help out.

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"All right then," Katara said, shaking her head. Of course, this might take a little more than usual as she was so used to giving her teachers that extra bit of respect.

Here, Katara looked a little grim. "We fought a worm," she said. "It was pretty nasty too, and it injured quite a few of us. I hope I see some of the rest of the guys here." Her hand went to his shoulder. "Does it feel any better?"

That was fine. It'd taken forever for his old regiment to stop calling him 'sir' when he'd retired and turned command over to his friend. Kang nodded, "It does, thank you."

He looked her over a little more closely, "You didn't get too badly injured, but you should still get yourself cleaned up, and get some rest. You won't be much help to anyone else if you pass out from exhaustion."

Katara was glad: being of use felt a lot better than crawling into bed and crying, which she felt like doing several times today. People needed help though, and she wasn't going to let the stress get to her. But she would try to honor Kang's request.

She shook her head a little. "I'll have a nap or so, but the EMH has already so many people to treat. I'd be kicking myself if I didn't help more. My wounds can wait, they aren't too serious. As for passing out...not an option."

Not if she had anything to say about it.

"You're not the only one with healing capabilities, or medical knowledge," Kang pointed out, scrubbing at the dried blood on the front of his leather kilt. "Go rest. The battle isn't over yet, and there's going to be more people that will need help. At least get something to eat and drink."

"I know," Katara said, "But this is the reason I'm not out there right now. I figure that my help might be needed here, where I can diminish the work the EMH doctor already has on is plate."

Not that he was grateful, since he brusquely stated how little he cared for healers. But Kang had a point, and she wasn't going to argue. She'd given advice herself while they were fighting, and people had listened then. She was mature enough by now to be sensible in a situation like this.

"I'll do that," she said, taking a breath. "It's been a long day."

Kang smiled, setting the cloth down and patting her on the shoulder, "Good girl. And thank you, again, for the healing."

Katara almost gave a sour look for the girl comment, but decided against it. He just wanted her to take his advice, and technically she was a girl anyway. Thank goodness for that.

"Anytime Kang," she said. "When you're feeling better and ready to resume training, just let me know. I think there are a few areas I could improve on."

"You're one of the fastest learners in the class, so I'm sure you'll have no problem. We probably won't start classes back up for a while," Kang grinned. "Now go."

"Gotcha," Katara said. Just as well: she wanted to train some with Sokka and then concentrate on some of her Bene Gesserit study anyway.

"Thank you for the compliment," she said, "But it helps to have good teachers and fellow trainees too."

With that, she turned to get some food for herself.
