There's a moment where Jamie has to bite back a rather sharp retort. The color red is important in this case, but he knows Katara doesn't know why it would be. She's just trying to come up with something that she thinks would look good on him.
Accordingly, he keeps his temper in check, and none of it actually shows in his voice when he does speak.
"Look, I know it might seem a wee bit odd, but I'd rather wear a different outfit altogether than change the color of my kilt." Jamie's always worn a red kilt. It's something that's as familiar to him as his pipes, and something that's not easy for him to change.
"It's...a tie to my home, aye? To Scotland." He looks down at the kilt and adds, softly, "Even if I never get my universe back, I have this."
He looks back up at Katara, his face reflecting the emotion he's feeling, but can't quite put into words. "Do ye understand what I mean?"
