Rude awakening, time for some BEER [Open]

After this

Dean kept leading his friend toward the hydroponics which was a beautiful setting of strange plants and animals. But the hunter was mostly ignoring the flora and fauna because he was on a mission. And then there it was, a large tree surrounded by metal horn flowers and large rocks shaped like speakers. Here the bottles of beer were hanging down like ready fruit. He debated on a commlink to Sam about the news, but decided to wait a little longer.

"Here we go, easy to sit around here." He grabbed a couple of bottles off the tree, and offered one to Castiel.

Castiel accepted the bottle with a nod, awkwardly working the cap off. He hadn't had enough experience drinking yet to have really gotten the hang of popping them off smooth and easy like Dean could. He held up the bottle towards Dean in silent toast, before tipping it back, draining near a third of it in one go. It was different now that he was human, somehow ... more. Castiel grimaced and went to take another pull.

"Take your time with them, all right?" Dean cautioned him after the toast. He then took a long pull from his own bottle, and sighed.

"All right, so this future of ours? Sam said yes didn't he?"

After a bit more wandering, greeting people, and not finding anyone that they knew, Kaylee and Kang decided to go grab a beer. There was still about a barrel down in the tavern, but he wanted to make it last as long as possible, since they didn't know when they were next going to be able to pick up supplies; so that meant a trip to the amazing beer tree.

Apparently, they weren't the only ones that had made their way there.

"So you found him," Kang grinned, plucking a beer and handing it to Kaylee before getting his own.

At least Kaylee still had Simon with her, which was a lot more than Kang did. It didn't make not finding any crewmembers or friends of Kang's any less saddening, but she couldn't let it bother her. Kang had suggested beer, and Kaylee had deemed it a worthy mission, and that was the end of the matter.

She happily took the beer from Kang and smiled at Dean and Castiel. They didn't look very pleased about something, but when did bad news ever stop the smile? "Glad to see it."

Castiel looked up from his beer, blinking up at Kang and Kaylee with too-wide too-blue eyes. "Uh. Hello. ... Kaylee and ... Kang?" he tried.

To Dean he mumbled, "it wasn't like what you think. There was a plan," before quickly taking another long drink of his beer.

Dean frowned at that, he really didn't like the sound of it already. But then he shoved it down, and plastered on a smile for the two arrivals.

"Hey Kang, Sunshine. Making it a party huh? And what's this about finding?"

"We ran into Castiel earlier. He was looking for you," Kang cracked his beer open and took a drink. Apparently, they'd stumbled across a serious discussion. If they wanted him and Kaylee to leave...

"Glad he found you in that crowd. Busy room." She nodded to Castiel, confirming that yes, he did get their names right.

Unlike Kang, though, Kaylee wasn't going to play so quiet about it. "If we're interruptin' somethin', I don't think it'd be a problem to check in a bit later...?"

Castiel looked back and forth between the strangers and Dean. This wasn't a conversation he was eager to have, but on the other hand, this was Dean's show. He substituted taking another very long drink of his beer for talking, and waited for Dean to answer.

Dean considered it. He wanted answers, and better to ask the former angel when he was relatively sober. But he already knew he wasn't going to like the news from what little he got.

He sighed, and drank some more of his beer.

"Yeah, look just need to catch up on things. I can meet up later with you guys you know?" His eyes caught Kaylee's gaze and gave her a grateful smile that was edged with a growing sadness.

Kang nodded, understanding completely, and put a hand on Kaylee's arm. "Let's go take a walk." Despite the fact that the presence of animals that they couldn't eat taunted him a bit, it was a nice area, and being able to smell life was somewhat comforting to him; he relied on that sense more than humans normally did.

Kaylee didn't like the look on Dean's face one bit, but she understood that there were some things better talked about in private. "Walk sounds nice," she replied to Kang, and nodded back to Dean. "I'll catch up with ya later, yeah?"

She took another drink of her beer, nodded again, and wandered off with Kang. It really was a nice place, different from the rest of the ship in a lot of ways. Why not enjoy it? Besides the fact that Dean and Castiel looked so upset...

Castiel watched them go with a meditative look on his face. After they were gone, he turned to Dean. "They are ... your friends?"

Dean mouthed back a 'Later definitely' to Kaylee as she left, and winked at her.

"Uh yeah, spoke with Kang a few times. Sunshine, uh Kaylee, she's... she's a real cute firecracker." He ducked his head a moment, and rubbed the back of his neck thoughtfully. Yeah, obvious he's more than a little smitten.

Castiel wasn't used to seeing Dean this happy. In his world, Dean hadn't been happy for a long time. He blinked and took another long drink of his beer.

In case you've forgotten Dean, in the time you've been apart, Cas doesn't normally talk that much.

There was an edge to that happiness, but it looked like things were slowly healing for him. He wasn't as broken as when he even first woke up.

Dean had another drink, and the smile fell away. He had almost forgotten how quiet Cas was, but he didn't mind. Except when he needed to know.

"So, spill. Tell me my future o angelic seer."

Sam actually HAD heard the alert. Sort of. He'd just been in the middle of private flight practice and hadn't wanted to leave before he was more confident with the controls. It was coming along, but not fast enough for Sam's liking. They were going to be fighting one day. He needed to be better.

Once he'd landed again, he headed out for a walk. One that took him toward hydroponics because it was a good place to think. And there was beer, even if Sam didn't partake of it nearly as often as some people on the ship. Which was why he headed that direction, actually. It was just as likely that he'd find Dean there as anywhere else.

"Dean?" he asked, stepping around a clump of trees to see the beer tree. And his brother. And... "Cas?"

"... Sam?" Cas froze, and stared, then scrambled to his feet, still staring.

"Sam, are you ..." His expression wary, he looked back at Dean with a question in his eyes.

Dean's expression was mixed, he didn't really want Sam to get this news. He knew his brother would take it hard, but looks like he didn't have a choice. Especially since he probably would have hoarded it like his other past secrets.

"Hey Sammy, uh yeah, look who woke up again," He got up and came closer to whisper in his brother's ear, "Look man, go easy on him. He's uh, human. Heavenly mojo went bye bye."

In a louder voice, he added to the former angel, "Cas, calm down, it's really Sam. Told you he's from a few weeks before so we're both way behind you, McFly."

It was probably better that Dean didn't hoard it. Because as upsetting as the news looked to be, by the way Castiel looked, Sam didn't want to not know.

He blinked at what Dean said, then nodded to his brother before speaking up. "The last thing I remember before I woke up here was meeting back up with you and Dean after he got sent to the future." It was a little bit of a fib, but he wasn't going to talk about the memories he'd gotten back from Stacy. Not yet.

Cas reached out, grabbing Sam's shoulder with a firm grip. "... you're Sam," he said.

Then, he was reaching out, pulling Sam into a very awkward hug. "It's ... good to see you, Sam," he mumbled as he patted the taller man's back.

Dean couldn't help looking amused at that.

"You two got enough caring and sharing or you gonna braid each other's hair next?"

Hugs. Hugs from Cas weren't really the norm. Physical touch of most forms weren't really the norm with Cas. So Sam let himself be hugged, patting the other man's back just as awkwardly.

Right before flipping Dean off because that was what Dean expected. "I'm good. And...yeah. It's good to see you too, Cas."

Cas stepped back again, shoving his hands back into his pockets. He looked back and forth between Dean and Sam.

"So ........ I'm not exactly clear on what's going on here."

Dean laughed at Sam and drank some more beer, muttering 'bitch.'

He then added, "Like I said, Stacy grabbed us more in the past than when she grabbed you. So it's just us. Winchester originals, and nobody is or is ever going to say yes."
