Title: Paradox of Being

Note: Things may get confusing in this but one thing to remember: This is not magic that's being dealt with. This is pure Emotion, so when things like "Sadness" or "Euphoria" are mentioned, they are perceived as very solid, very tangible and very, very real. Expect the unexpected.






Renne had had to think through many things of late.

He'd wandered like he always does and confronted the things his mind put to him. He analysed everything in keen, close detail with full intent of extracting logical solutions. Except for many of his thoughts, logic hadn't fit the equation.
Emotion fit where Logic had not.

In exploring and analysing this massive ship (or as much as he knows by now), Renne settles on a spot "outside" in the City. He sits for a short while in meditation and hopes perhaps, that whatever he can give, it may be enough.

It's funny how Billy's feet always seem to lead him to his friends. On a walk back from checking on the various building, he sees Renne meditating in the park. Ever-curious, he goes to investigate without disruption. Breaking a meditative state would be rude.

So he sits beside his brother, quietly trying to relax.

It doesn't take him long to realise he's not alone.

Which by the way, isn't a bad thing. Coming smoothly up out of a meditative introspection, the oddity's ears give a perk. Sniff. And then he simply grins, barely resisting the urge to pounce the Human right here and now.

"Bee!"

"Hey," he smiles back, somewhat unfolding from his meditative stance. "What are you up to?"

Oh yes, he always wants to know what's going on. For better or for worse.

He's resisting the urge to pounce you very well right noe, Billy. The future remains quite uncertain in that prospect.

"Eee. Rrr-enne go heee-rrre. Rrrr-enne thin-k Rrrr-enne trrry teea-ch haow do Feel." Chitter. It may well be a difficult thing to teach but it shouldn't be anymore difficult than...well...being what he's about to teach willing life-forms to do.

"Teach how to feel? To use and process emotions as you do?" Color him intrigued. "Is that even possible?"

Not that many things have been impossible for them.

Billy wasn't the only who was able to sense Renne: Katara, without realizing it, could get an impression of Renne now, though even she didn't quite understand how it happened: she just felt it. When she stepped near the City Park, impressions led her to believe that Renne was here,m and she followed those impressions until she saw him a few feet away, meditating.

Like Billy, Katara had no desire to break Renne in his meditative state: she knew all too well how important it was to stay in that frame of mind. Aang was the same way, and would get cross when he was interrupted. Like Billy, she sat near Renne, closing her eyes, taking her breaths to calm herself.

She hoped she didn't bother him.

"Eee. Eeey-ess, do tha-t. Rrr-enne thin-k, cahn do."

There's a moment of silence as the oddity considers his next words. Thoughts like this often are the object of long meditation sessions.

"Rrrr-enne wahn-t be use-fuhll. Li-ke Bee is."

"You want to share one of your skills with us." Billy makes a soft affirmative noise in understanding. "You're already useful---as one of our best cooks and a healer. If you want to do this too, though, I definitely won't object."

It intrigues him, actually.

It doesn't take him long to drift smoothly out of the deep, thoughtful state he's in. Meditations on a deeper level than what he's done lately on the ship aren't all that common, so it's relatively an easy thing to become aware of changes in his surroundings.

His ears give a few twitches and a few minutes later, his big eyes blink curiously open.

"Eee?"

Squeak. Billy, say hello to the blushing blue face and a gentle, affectionate nudge. He doesn't say it outright but a facet of what he can do is often employed in warfare.

"Eee, Rrrr-enne wahn-t hell-p, eey-ess."

"Then I completely support you. If you ever need anything from me, you know you only need to ask."

He smiles then, ruffling the hair. "So when did you plan to start teaching?"

"Eee. Bee do sa-me." Chirp. Nose-bop.

And then forward twitch his ears. A thoughtful purr later, the oddity sits back on his big feet and grins.

"Whe-n Bee wahn-t?"

"When are you ready?"

Question for question, he thinks with a playful grin.

Chirp. Another nose-bop.

"Rrr-enne go-t ti-me. Wha-t Bee thin-k?" There's the beginning of that impish "prelude to pouncing" look on his face.

"I also have spare time at the moment..." he trails off, quirking an eyebrow.

Of course, a prelude to a pounce isn't complete without the grand finale: A pounce! Followed by a sniff-nudge, of course.

"Eee. Bee wahn-t do naow?"

"All right," he surrenders happily, quickly hugging the imp. "Show me your way, teacher."

He is quite serious about this, as the shift in posture and tone of voice indicate.

There's a moment of a snuggle then, but it's easily transitioned into a more serious demeanour. Backing up a bit, Renne sits himself into that painful-looking, contortionistic version of the lotus.

"Eee. Sit-sit. Bee, sit?"

Meaning, is he sitting still and in a comfortable posture?

"I'm ready," he confirms, body carefully arranged with a straight posture and loosely folded legs.

"Eee. Naow, Bee..." A pause.

Seconds later, the Renne turns to a more effective method of communication. his English isn't that much better, but it's at least (hopefully) more understandable.

What thee feel now?

I feel...

He has to actually search for it. Emotions are felt strongly, but they're usually not something he's consciously acknowledging or aware of.

Content. Happy to be with you and curious about learning. I still have background worries about certain things, but I need to consciously extract them.

His face shows about as much emotion as a Vulcan at this moment but that is merely a shield to things yet to come. Slowly, a paw extends out to find one of the Human's hands, offering an assuring pet.

This, we ex-plore soon. Now, hold onto Joy. Hold, ex-plore, know Joy.

It may sound ludicrous but he's speaking in very literal terms here. His paw draws back and, to illustrate what he means, the oddity's paws come together like two cupped hands. That glowing blob? That, Billy, is Joy.

The smile Renne's comfort extracts from Billy is enough to spark 'joy'. He studies Renne's actions and observes the glow. That is tangible emotion? It should be impossible to extract an emotional response that way, but he's been rewriting the science textbooks ever since meeting Renne.

All right. I'm going in. With that spark as a guide, he dives down into himself to discover emotion similar to it. He stands on the memory platform of his soulscape, holding that one spark close to his chest. Joyful experiences lend their strength in the form of tiny lights similar to the one Renne holds on the outside. From within, the glow wraps around his whole being before appearing as one solid form.

The whole process takes time. There are nuances to the emotion that require sorting---relief, exuberance, triumph...but they all flow into one and surge up with him to the outside world. Strangely, the glow spirals out from within before settling in his hands.

Renne sits still and does his own version of "watching". It's along the lines of listening, smelling, touching, feeling and any cross-wiring of those that can be thought of. When the Human emerges with that bit of Joy held in his hands, Renne's smile only magnifies the Joy held in his own paws.

"Eeee!"

Thee have done it! This, correct, yes!

That joy seems to have a recursive effect, because his own magnifies as well. It's warm, powerful, and shining with a luminescence rarely seen. Just holding it in his hands could become addictive.

Wow. This is magnificent. Is there anything I'm supposed to do with this?
