Hoping this doesn't kick off a long chain of emo

After Loren had Stacy return her memory of her universe's destruction, Loren wandered about the halls briefly, then returned back to the sensorium. She conjured up the baseball diamond from home but in her mind's eye she could see the Ohm descending on the field and-

She changed the environment so nothing was showing, it was just the way it was when she came there except for the baseballs she had at her feet. She hefted her bat up, picked up one of the baseballs, threw it into the air, and hit it. She then did the same with another ball. And again. And again.

There was something comforting in the repetition but it did little to soothe her. The thoughts she tried to avoid kept coming back to her, the images.

They were going to get them. Whatever it took, those things were going to pay. Right now she needed to just... relax. Let her thoughts fall away and let her body take over.

Shepard had never seen a game of baseball. She heard about them on occasion, but living most of your natural life in space, there wasn't exactly enough room to even make decent pitches or send a ball flying at the strike of a bat. Sure, she had seen plenty of soldiers take enjoyment in Virtual games simulating it, but she didn't exactly see the appeal.

Watching someone actually swing a (mostly) real bat, well, it still didn't exactly inspire the commander either. At least the view was nice. It also said something about the size of the ship if the young woman in front of Shepard could bat imaginary balls that far inside an enclosed room. Just how big was this Reaper-ship anyway?

She remained where she was, standing in front of where Sensorium door should be. Her mildly youth face bearing no telling expression of what she thought. The only real movement she made was to shift from one foot to the other, her battered white hard-suit making small ticking sounds as its mechanical musculature followed the movements. She wasn't hiding, but Shepard didn't want to draw too much attention from whatever the young woman was doing.

Tobias landed on the diamond's fence.

< Mom? You all right? > he asked. He could detect the tension and anger in her swings.

< I just...I wasn't sure if I wanted to put myself through more pain. It really stinks, realizing everything we fought to protect for so long is gone. >
