a seed-eating songbird that typically has a stout bill and colorful plumage... [Open!]
You might be wondering why there is a rather large flock of finches occupying the open air of the Obs Deck. The obvious answer is that someone left the window open. The unobvious answer is the seemingly innocuous teenager lying on one side of the room, a spellbook she had just run across in her locker open on the floor beside her.
She is entertaining the thought that it's quite tragic that Professor Flitwick can't see the masterpiece flapping around the room, because this spell is a sixth-year charm, and she hasn't even started her fifth year, let alone set foot in the Charms classroom since her exam. Still, she supposes that it helps that Hermione taught her the wandwork for it in one of the D.A. meetings. It did take a while to separate Avis and Oppugno, though, hence the number of aggravated birds using their feathery bodies as projectiles aimed at the occasional sofa or ceiling beam.
