Exploring the Wild Green Yonder
"Okay, kids in the middle. I don't care if you can fight or can shoot lightning out your ears, stay in the center where we can protect you. If there's something the adults can't handle, then feel free to jump in. Noncombatants are with them. Anyone with a weapon, if someone is engaging an enemy in hand to hand, obviously, hold fire, even if you're a crack shot. Safeties of your weapons on until it seems like we might be running into something. For most of us, being able to shoot is only a thumbflick away and I don't want any friendly fire. Be careful not to hit anything that looks like a window, so we're not all tossed into space," Cybil said, standing at the front of the group.
"Andromeda. Cortana. Let us know what you can as we go, and if you think there's something we need to see, let us know to take a look. You're our tourguides."
And the important part.
"If you think you heard or saw something strange, calmly let the rest of the group know, even if you're not sure. We shouldn't be jumping at shadows and we can't panic, but we shouldn't be too relaxed either. We have no idea who or what might be here with us. Be careful. Not careless. Not paranoid."
Her gun was out in her hand, safety was on for now, and it was aimed at the floor.
"Kara, Harper, and Flash, I want you on point with me. Sam, Connor, Murphy, I want you bringing up the rear. The other people with superpowers in the middle, where you can get to the front or back easily if you're needed at either and where you're closest to the kids and the people without guns or powers to protect them."
She would, quite frankly, be amazed if anyone actually listened to her. She was just a cop. But
"Everyone ready? Let's go."

"Let's move out."
And they did, moving carefully along, and looking around.

They entered through the doors and found a large, large room, the size of a city library--or maybe larger, but with more focus on digital media than anything else.
There were terminals for 'check out' items -- portable music players or pads that contained novels on 'screen' or a movies on mini players) and for group entertainment, many small podrooms off of the main chamber with screens.
In the center of the room was a massive computer, a strange device composed of many arcing tubes and a dense crystal array that had millions of microcopic trails carved through it.

He was sticking near to Kitty, though. X-Men were X-Men, no matter what world they were from. And she was pretty young, so he wanted to keep an eye on her. Just in case.

He looked a bit awed. Nothing like a computer to make an engineer forget the trauma of tentacles. "Hey, Rommie, don't suppose you've got specs on this thing?"
no subject
"Yes, Andromeda, tell us all about it," he said distractedly, staring up at the thing. Oh, to hack into that, all the things he could learn.

In the meantime, he wasn't exactly in the middle, he had found his stake, his multi purpose tool, and his buck knife on his belt in the locker. Not much, but works in a pinch against vampires or demons. Or if they run into something other than computers (because that was always Will's domain, along with her Witchie Poo know-how), Xander could lend a hand to fix.

The pod rooms were large enough to host four to eight people comfortably, and blocked off completely once the 'door' was shut.
"The private rooms have audio-visual that works one of two ways; you can either let the pod telepathically sense with your mood and select film, musical content or digitalized reading media according to your mood or tastes, or you can use the terminals in each 'pod' and search for something specific."
One of the rooms was broken, and strains of B.B. King's "Three O'Clock" blues were on repeat.
Well now, it's three o'clock in the morning
And I can't even close my eyes.
Three o'clock in the morning
And I can't even close my eyes.
Can't find my baby
And I can't be satisfied.
I've looked all around me
And my baby, she can't be found.
I've looked all around me, people,
And my baby, she can't be found.
You know if I don't find my baby,
People, I'm going down to the golden ground.
Goodbye everybody,
I believe this is the end.
Oh, goodbye everybody,
I believe this is the end.
I want you to tell my baby,
Tell her please, please forgive me,
Forgive me for my sins.
Pictures flashed on the screen. A photo of Iwo Jima, a painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware, a photo of a nuclear blast, and a painting of Alexander entering Babylon.
"That pod-room is broken. We've been unable to repair whatever is causing it to malfunction."

"The malfunction isn't a malfunction at this junction. Dig deeper."

Still, good for distractions, if someone wanted to keep morale up. He knew he'd be in there, too, digging up playlists when everything calmed down. Not that there ever seemed to be a dull moment.
"I guess all the AIs aren't exactly on the same page." He missed Jarvis and the program's dry sarcasm. "That sounded cryptic to me, not like nonsense." Dig deeper..

With that, he blipped out.
