Biweekly Warfare Training - Block One
The turnout ended up being better than expected. Kang stood with his arms crossed over his chest in front of the bar of the tavern, looking over his and Ronon's students; he knew that several of them wouldn't stay, once they realized how brutal this training was going to be. He glanced over at his fellow instructor, and nodded slightly, getting a nod and grin in return.
Sons-of-bitches voice was go.
"Welcome to Warfare Training. For those of you who don't know us, I am Kang, and this"--he pointed at Ronon--"is Ronon Dex. We are going to be your instructors." His wings rustled slightly, and he grinned. "I'm going to tell you right now: this is not going to be easy. You will get hurt. You will be sore in muscles you didn't even know existed. We are going to make you give us everything you have, and more."
He placed his left hand on the hilt of the sword at his waist. "You will be learning hand-to-hand, various melee weapons with an emphasis on swords and knives, firearms, and for those interested, I will be giving private lessons with the axe. You will also be learning strategy and tactics, and will be facing off against many different types of nonhuman foes. Our goal is to make sure you have a chance of surviving, no matter what situation you happen to find yourself in."
Pointing to the door, the bozak's expression turned serious again, "If you feel that you can't handle this training at any point, the door is right there. We only want those who are serious about learning, and we won't put up with whining or half-assing. We also won't put up with any sort of discrimination based on age or sex, so be respectful to your fellow classmates, and to your instructors." He meant it, too.
"Classes will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1600 to 1800, and mostly optional on Saturdays from 0900 to 1200. We'll let you know which Saturdays are required at least a day ahead. Questions?"
[Things to be covered!
Basics of hand-to-hand, proper knife and sword handling, and for those interested in axe, message me and we'll work out the private lessons. :3]

Yessssss
So when the big lizard waved at her like he wanted her to come over, she welcomed the chance to stop pretending like she was paying attention.
He put his weapons down. 'Let's see what you can do?' Grim Eyes thought, her ears swiveling to a more interested angle. "Can't hurt," she said, leaning her spear up against the bar. She almost didn't want to leave it, but she paced back from the bar a little and settled back into a crouch, one hand bracing her on the floor and the other raised like a pointing dog. This was not any kind of martial art, or fighting that a biped would do.
Grim Eyes had only fought three challenges in her tribe. She was a hunter, not a warrior - but she would change that. The lizard can't be that fast if he's that big.
LET THE BEATDOWN BEGIN
It was probably a good idea she hadn't paired off with a human, just in case of accidents.
The bozak made sure to keep his wings tight against his back and his tail immobile, to prevent any broadcasting of his movement, and locked his eyes with hers. One second passed, then two, and he moved, coming right at her.
no subject
He was moving-
Grim Eyes leapt back and to the side, the claws of her hands nicking small chips in the wood flooring as she moved. He was a tad bit faster than she thought and she quickly revised her intentions. He wouldn't charge like a boar, then.
That thought crossed her mind quick and she dug her claws into the wood and jumped, aiming to hit him square in the front shoulder and knock him off his balance. She didn't want to bite - that would be lethal and she knew it. She wasn't actually trying to kill him, after all.
no subject
He moved to the side and behind her, hitting her squarely in the back to knock her to the ground, and still on all fours, watched to see how quickly she'd recover.
He hadn't been kidding when he said they were going to hurt.

Now she circled him, made more wary by the force she'd felt in that blow. He was stronger than her, she was sure. Her hackles bristled, and her ears were pinned to her neck. The gaze she had on was cautious, now.
Suddenly she lowered herself almost flat to the ground and darted in at his hind legs and tail - get ahold of that and she could hamper his balance and his direction - bring it down from the rear.
no subject
Then, she moved. He saw what she was aiming for immediately and waited almost until she was on top of him before again moving around her and tugging sharply on her ankle, letting go just as quickly as he'd grabbed it.
Already, he was getting a feel for her usual fighting methods, rushes designed to bring opponents down quickly. He was also getting the feeling that she wasn't used to opponents fighting back.

Her ear flicked uncertainly. If this had been somewhere else, she never would have picked a fight with him alone. She would have had her hunters at the very least, and a warrior or two if she had anything to say about it. But she didn't. She had herself.
She began to move in on his shoulder again and then abruptly changed directions, coming in low with the intent to check him in the ribs with her shoulder, hopefully tossing him off balance.

A feint. Nice try, but her eyes gave her intentions away, and when she came at him, he rose from his crouch slightly, grabbed her arm, and flipped her onto her back. She really had a lot to learn, if he was beating her in a fighting style he typically didn't use.
For the first time during their spar, he spoke. "Keep your eyes on mine. Don't look anywhere else."
no subject
She had yet to land a single hit, and he had stopped her three times. If this had been a hunt, Grim Eyes would have regrouped her hunters and set them back to herding the prey - it wasn't worn down enough.
Her ear twitched at his words, and she snorted at him. It didn't seem to be doing her any good no matter what, but she wasn't about to tell him that. "I'm good," she said, ignoring the way her shoulder pulled at her.
no subject
"Try again."
He was waiting for her move.
no subject
A low growl built in her throat as she circled him again, prowling like she would if she were stalking prey. There was no place for her to hide behind and ambush him, no cover for her to take, no hunters for her to rely on. Even the best hunter couldn't bring down something like this on her own.
She started moving faster, darting in and out quickly in little short passes that appeared to do nothing more than try to draw his gaze one way or another. Grim Eyes wasn't following through on the feints - not just yet. She wanted to see how he would react to her abbreviated lunges.
no subject
Of course, this time, neither of them had any intention of killing the other. Sooner or later, she'd wear herself out, or lose her patience. He could wait.
no subject
She dashed in head on this time and rolled to the side, fetching up at Kang's side and standing straight like a biped for the first time in the fight, intending to come down on those wings, no doubt sensitive and a vulnerable target. Her growl had deepened almost to a snarl - she wasn't in a rage, but she was definitely angry.
no subject
...well. She'd lost her temper quicker than he thought she would. Hissing, he backed away at the last second, keeping his wings tight against his back, and spun on one foot in a circle, so that his tail would knock her feet from underneath her. If it worked, she'd be flat on her back, and pinned just like his clutchmate had been decades ago.
no subject
Her growl cut off abruptly, swallowed in her throat as her mane slicked back flat against her head and she lifted her chin up to expose her throat - that was a surrender if there ever was one. She wanted to be let up. This kind of panic wasn't something she was used to but she was all too aware that if he chose, this would be it for her.
