The food could be worse | Mess Hall [Open]
Kyle had decided to actually try to food for what it was this time rather than have the Sensoriums disguise it as something else. It wasn't as bad as he expected, just extremely bland. That put it one step above some military rations he'd had. He could live with bad food. It was the lack of caf that was annoying. He'd thought somebody would have picked some up when they'd stopped off at a planet. No such luck however. So he had to put up with working on training exercises for the Rogue's commando component without any delicious beverage.
Tapping on his Omnicom he started to organize his notes. Demolitions training, marksmanship, and of course stealth all being laid out in a schedule. Preliminary of course. It would still need Wedge's approval. Considering that some of team were civilians he had to alter the normal framework of the training. Overall he felt they should be able to get everyone trained, and ready to go fairly quickly. The Sensoriums did simplify the logistics of training a great deal. Not to mention saved him a lot of prep work. Not to mention all the benefits of live fire training without the danger.
Deciding it was time for a break he set the Omnicom down and lay his head down on the table. Closing his eyes he focused on listening to the sounds of the ship. Slowly he reached out with the Force getting a sense for what the norm was. This massive ship, and it was alive. It certainly was a unique feeling. At first it was almost impossible to sense anything else. Soon he was able to separate it from others in the Force. The ship becoming a comfortable background noise.
The food was bad, the situation was even worse, but for the moment Kyle felt at peace.

Ben slid onto a bench opposite Master Katarn -- was he even a master now? Ben wasn't sure -- and glanced at the datapad lying on the table. It took him a moment to piece together what the schedule was for.
Training General Antilles's commando squad.
"Working hard?" he asked, stirring the goo around a bit.

Nanoha smiled warmly at the Jedi Knight from across the table. "Is this seat taken?"

...even if it was a little frivolous at the moment. A bit sloshed over the side and she half-scowled as she snagged the slip and had to concentrate hard to get it back into the bowl. With that, she set the bowl down.
"Mm, I need more practice," she said matter-of-factly, then her eyes flicked across his Omnicom. "Ah. A schedule! Such looks promising. I am looking forward to this."

Once again he noted how refreshing Arha's presence in the Force was. So much energy it couldn't help but spill out.

"This is a program that shall be good for us," she said with a nod. "I have done such things before. I have been good with disappearing from an enemy--such was needed during the Harkkonen-Atreides conflict that consumed Arrakis for a lengthy time."

Thank the Force Tycho wasn't here to point out his own lone wolf tendencies. "I am looking forward to seeing how you do. Is there any area you think you'll need extra help in?"

She peered at the Omnicom and pursed her lips thoughtfully.
"I believe a great many will need to learn to rely on each other. It will be difficult for some. I would suggest many exercises to build such trust, yes? It can be markedly...difficult for some to see another as a true teammate and one to be relied upon. We are not a unit that has been together for very long."

She slipped into the seat across from Kyle with barely a whisper of her plantsuit and just watched him for a moment. He didn't seem to be asleep but he wasn't exactly fully alert either. Setting her bowl of tasteless glop aside for the moment, Reyna propped her elbows on the table and leaned forward to cup her chin in her hands.
"Attempting to become one with the table Kyle?" she teased lightly, keeping her voice soft so as not to startle him.

"So you're a Jedi Knight too? Well, that will certainly be most efficacious in helping us defeat the Ohm." Reyna chucked good-naturedly, her tone jovial and her gray eyes sparkling with mirth. She smiled more fully and leaned back a bit, crossing her arms casually on the table seemingly oblivious to the fact that Kyle was serious about being a Jedi.
"Thank you. It's good to see you too, Kyle," Reyna said warmly. "I never got a chance to thank you properly for what you did for me back there in the pod cavern. Telling me about Alderann had to have been difficult knowing how I was likely to react, but it was something that I needed to hear." She shifted a bit in her seat, the veins in her plantsuit seeming to pulse in time with her heart. The knowledge still made her uncomfortable, but for now the pain was buried deep enough that she could function normally again.
"Thank you for staying with me while I had my meltdown as well. It was comforting to know that I was not alone, and it helped me pull myself together more easily than I would have been able to do on my own."
[ooc: Sorry for taking so long to tag back. Been busier than expected lately! Anyway, since Reyna really hasn't been out much since she arrived, she doesn't know that Kyle really is a Jedi...]

Just because he didn't like using his title didn't mean he couldn't derive some enjoyment from shocking people with it. It was certainly more pleasant than shocking them with the news that their world was gone forever. Sitting up his face turned serious. "And there's no need to thank me. I did tell you awful news. Being there to help you through that is the very least I could do after dropping something like that on you."
no subject
"Please forgive Master... Kyle... I didn't realize... That is, you're rather different from... I mean..." Her cheeks pink with embarrassment, Reyna snapped her mouth shut, took a deep breath to steady herself, and said simply, "Sorry for the misunderstanding." The fact that Kyle had smirked when he'd made his revelation helped to reassure her that he wasn't the kind of person who got easily offended, and his quiet modesty when accepting her gratitude helped to reinforce that impression.
"It was still kind of you. Not all beings would have been considerate enough to break that kind of news gently, and even fewer would have sat there patiently while the recipient of said news had a hysterical fit."

"How's it going, Kyle?" Luke asked as he sat down.

"Ben is from two years ahead of me," Luke said. "Whatever's happened in those two years, it's been enough to get us in contact with a group of Sith, one of whom happens to be on board now. But what bothers me more is that two years--I haven't had that time with him yet. I haven't seen him grow up into this young man that he is." Luke shook his head a little. "But no matter what, I'm glad to see him all right. I was worried."

Kyle took a few scoops of his own goop before continuing. "Ben was here earlier and he told me about the Sith. It didn't exactly set me at ease. Do you think we should be watching her?"
no subject
Luke was quiet--he had put a mouthful of food in to give himself time to think and organize his words. "Our resident Sith, in particular. In short, yes, I think keeping an eye on her would be the best way to make sure she keeps out of trouble. The problem is how we go about it. Have you got any ideas?"
