Like a Boxing Match But Not [Open]

It had taken a little planning and some inquiries to the ship but the two kids were preparing for their match. Negi finished his stretches and looked over to Chamo. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"

"Trust me Aniki, this'll be just like sparring with your teachers," assured Chamo. "You two will be okay."

Negi nodded. He was currently shirtless again, his still damaged plantsuit tied around his waist. His scars were showing but he was prepared for the match.

His opponent? Vivio Takamachi. The pair had hit it off quite well and when the discovery that they could both grow up AND did martial arts came up, well, a powered match was nothing short of exciting to the pair.

Getting into position, he nodded to Chamo. Sparring in an outdoor area would give them more space to work with.

"This is a submission match!" exclaimed Chamo, waving little flags. "Both will fight until one cannot continue. No time limit. In this corner, the daughter of Nanoha Takamachi, the powerful mage-girl herself, Viviooooooooo Takamaaaaaachiiiiiiii!"

"And in this corner, the son of the Thousand Master, said to have known a thousand spells, the child prodigy himself, Negiiiiii Sprinnnnnnggggfiiiiieeeeld!"

"Fighters to your sides, and lets get ready to ruuuummmmbllllleeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

(ooc: spectators are free to, well spectate. And place bets. Please make separate threads if you want to spectate the fight.)

Vivio herself had finished her stretches, but had a worried look on her face. Was this okay? Would Stacy allow this? True, the City got beat up due to... whatever appeared along with the Nightmare King, but still...

Letting out a sigh, she straightened out the pair of old clothes she fetched out and wore over her plant suit.

"I still feel a bit weary about this..." Vivio said. "...think we should have done this in the Sensoriums?"

Well, if Vivio had known about the all-out sparring match with Signum and Nanoha, then yeah, she would have suggested it...

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm more worried that we'll damage the place despite it being mostly invincible," replied Negi. "Taking it outside is logically the best place, and this place is already fairly wide open. As long as we're not throwing huge spells around, we should be fine."

He grinned as he slid into stance. "You ready Vivio? Don't worry about hurting me or anything."

"You'd best not hold back either Aniki! Show her who's king of the mountain!" yelled Chamo from the sidelines.

Negi chuckled and nodded to Vivio.

[identity profile] notsaintkaiser.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Vivio nodded and slid into position herself. "I'm ready...!" With that, she motioned Negi to make the first move.

Sure, ladies first and all, but she wanted to see what he could do.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Negi nodded and made the first move; a simple step in and a straight punch to be followed up by a mixed high-low kick.

[identity profile] notsaintkaiser.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Vivio's head moved slightly as she dodged the punch and her arms moved to block the kicks. The girl followed up by a one-two punch followed with a kick to the middle.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Tagged by the one-two with sharp impacts to the sides of his hands, he blocked the kick with his palms and shoved outwards, palms outstretched as he stepped in and drove a elbow forward towards the center of Vivio's chest.

[identity profile] notsaintkaiser.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Vivio let out a grunt as she staggered back, the elbow connecting. She left herself open for that. Not good.

Recovering a bit, she pushed herself back into the fight, deliver a sharp high kick to the head.

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Negi rolled with the impact against his head. Nope, nothing broken. That was good. He grinned as he spun with the hit, swinging into a low sweep in order to knock down Vivio.

Evangeline should have known when it was the sound of that stupid ermine shouting that drew her attention that she wasn't going to see anything interesting. She'd wanted to see the boy in a match now for a while, get another gauge of how much he'd changed from the apprentice she'd sent off at the beginning of summer, but this opponent wouldn't show her a thing.

The girl's magic power was undeniable, and her techniques were practiced well enough, but she had no edge, no killer instinct. The two were children at play, no more, and for all the match meant to her they might as well have been going at it in Street Fighter or the like.

But she kept an eye on it anyway. She had little enough better to do, and if the boy got complacent and slipped up she'd never let him hear the end of it.

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
There was someone else who was just as curious about the match though. Even as she'd decided to let them talk about their magical doodads on their own, it hadn't meant she'd stopped listening, and now that they'd taken their fight to the city, she could get an idea of exactly how strong they were. She'd seen Nanoha in action before, so looking at Vivio was a bit similar, so she kept her eyes on the boy at first: he was new, and she was unfamiliar to his kind of magical attacks. Despite that weird animal's annoying announcement of them, she was actually interested in seeing how far the two went.

However, now someone else was catching her eye: it was the girl from last time, the one who had been giving the speech. Strangely enough, she looked bored. Alessa at least could see how this could pass for amusement fora little while.

"Not having fun?" Alessa commented.

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The not-girl again. This time watching her boy, instead of the other way around... not that it mattered. Unlike Alessa, she openly welcomed attempts to harm her apprentice. They constituted 'teachable moments.'

"There's no tactics and no pressure. It's a decent lightshow, and that's it."

In other words, 'yes'.

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It wouldn't be a real fight, not between these two," Alessa said, shrugging. "You shouldn't forget that they're both children at heart, and would not really attack each other in that way. Things change when the circumstances are warped. Its typical human behavior: pit those two in a fight like this and its sparring, but the moment an enemy targets something they care about, the claws come out."

She turned to Evangeline. "But you aren't like that, are you?"

(this response before negi uses magia erebia, that's going to get a pretty strong reaction)

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Even calling it sparring is a joke. To teach someone anything you have to show them their weaknesses. They're just displaying each others' strengths. It's an exhibition."

The pace and strength of the attacks was intensifying, yes, but they just weren't trying to outrace the other or pursue openings or do anything that would bring things to a close.

"A child? A protector? No. I'm nothing like that," Evangeline smirked. "Just the opposite. A selfish old monster."

Re: (this response before negi uses magia erebia, that's going to get a pretty strong reaction)

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"I agree with that, but its hardly likely that is going to happen. If you wanted him to get exposed to that sort of a battle, he would have to fight someone different, same for her. They're friends, after all. If I were going to fight, for instance, it would have to be someone that would actually need to be a challenge."

Alessa snickered. "Anyone can be a selfish monster, I've seen demons do it fairly easy. It also makes them terribly single minded and predictable. If I wanted to, I could that as well, its perfectly in my nature. But I save that for our missions for a reason. For someone like you, its much easier to fly under people's radar."

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"There's more to it than just being friends or not." The boy had no problem matching himself against Setsuna but would never practice against Asuna. Deep down his emotions ran along the lines of Evangeline's thought... one really owned her strength, the other was just a child dabbling, for all her power. The same as the one he faced now.

"I'm especially good at it, though. Hence the 'old.' The wages of sin grow lighter the longer you indulge."

Unlike Evangeline, Fletcher was just staring in awe at the match. He'd had no idea that Vivio could do that kind of stuff -- well, he'd known she could turn into an adult, but not the rest of it. And that new guy, Negi, he was just as incredible.

Fletcher was almost a little jealous of what they could do.

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"They not have anything like this where you're from?" Evangeline asked. She was still wondering about why, exactly, he was on the ship. He'd seemed helpless enough just being grabbed by Sam, and now he was getting all wide-eyed at a couple of mages going at it... but he didn't strike her as being some sort of technical expert or leader-type either. What did he actually do?

[personal profile] greennotgold 2010-04-16 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Fletcher jumped when he heard Evangeline's voice, and glanced over to her. She'd saved him, but she still made him a bit nervous. She certainly wasn't an ordinary person...

"No, we don't. All of that shouldn't even be possible."

[identity profile] capture-worlds.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The Machine Decader pulled up a few feet away from the practice session, and its rider dismounted the ridiculously overpowered motorcycle. Tsukasa stepped through the rubble and stopped near a small child with blond hair.

He watched the battle for a while. Negi was really good; he wondered if he could actually keep up with some of the enemies he and the other Riders had faced.

"Wow...I guess that ferret wasn't exaggerating when he said that Negi was good." He said, half to himself.

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
"That lower animal? Not exaggerating? I doubt it." Evangeline couldn't help but spare a caustic remark when the newly-arrived motorcyclist mentioned Chamo of all things as his source. Even someone with her thoroughly elitist view on what kind of power was necessary to merit actual respect had to admit the boy had come and would likely go very far - and she was not a little pleased with her own role in shaping him - but so long as he was still a work in progress she wasn't going to let him rest on his laurels for too long.

And that included, apparently, letting Chamo foster overinflated opinions of him in the general populace.

[identity profile] capture-worlds.livejournal.com 2010-04-15 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Tsukasa turned. He really hadn't expected anyone to hear him...and yet, what he said has only a half-whisper, so he should have expected that, right? When he ran through what she said, he realized she knew Negi.

"Hmm...you must be one of Negi's comrades from his home world." Tsukasa replied, feeling the lack of his comrades' prescience keenly.

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Evangeline chuckled darkly. "I know him, anyway." An apprentice was hardly a comrade, and she disliked to be counted as part of that annoying gaggle of girls that followed him everywhere.

[identity profile] capture-worlds.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Tsukasa took the measure of Evangeline, and after a few seconds of thinking, he replied with "For someone who only 'knows him,' You are certainly watching his exhibition match with a critical eye."

[identity profile] maguspuparum.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oho, captain obvious showing a little more insight this time around.

"He is my apprentice. His performance reflects on me." Still not comrades.

Hi, Vivio.

Guess who's watching the fight and gauging how it's going?

Love, Mommy.
