Happiness Is a Warm Gun [Tag, Kyle & Tycho, Open]

New Canton training grounds. It was a decent camp, full of find memories of Independent soldiers going through basic training as the War for Independence kicked off. Gwen had spent a good deal of time stomping and marching over every inch of the camp from the mountains off in the distance to along the river bank to the east of the barracks. The place she had picked for the testing of explosives was where her cavalry unit had tested our their tanks, their skiffs, their mortars, and pretty much everything they had ever used to go boom with. It gave the red head a giddy feeling as she wheeled the red sorrel horse around for another run at the targets she had asked Stacy to supply at the ends. A small sprint for the animal, yes, but the challenge was getting the required number of shots off in the target zone before hitting a certain mark.

Gwen was really going to have to do this more often.

Wheeling the horse back around she urged the mare forward bringing up her g-36 rifle to her shoulder popping off two rounds as she hit the first mark. Three more as the second passed, and a final try as the horse came within distance of the last. Carefully the red head pulled back on the reins while the horse chomped at the bit in her mouth, encouraging her to move over to the target. That was when Gwen scowled- shy on the last shot of hitting inside the zone. The others were sound enough for a kill shot, but that last one? She was going to have to try it again. Giving her chrono a glance she figured there was enough time for one more round before Kyle or Tycho were to show up. With a hoot and a hollar the red head wheeled the horse back around grinning like a fool. Yep- one more round.

When Gwen turned back to him Kyle was grinning and holding a bandoleer of spherical silver objects a bit smaller than a closed fist. In fact they looked like they were meant to be taken off and thrown. "I thought a rifle might be a bit more familiar. In that case these shouldn't seem that odd to you. Merr-Sonn Class A Thermal Detonators. Effective blast radius of twenty meters. They attach to any metal object, and then detonate when their timers run out. Great all purpose explosive because of that. Don't need to carry separate charges for demolitions."

Still smirking he plucked one off the bandoleer, and flipped the trigger. Letting it cook off for two seconds he threw it towards one of the targets. With a clank it attached and then detonated throwing soil, grass, and debris from the target all over. "What do you think?"

Kyle laughed as he got down to explaining the workings of the device. Jan could laugh all she liked he actually enjoyed teaching. "Well the casing is made of thermite and axidite. Inside is some baradium. The detonator sends a pulse of energy into the baradium which triggers a fusion reaction. A lot of a heat and a particle field are released atomizing pretty much anything in the blast radius. So yeah don't give these to the guy in the squad who is always dropping things okay."

Her enemies had planted explosives in fruit! Kyle knew the odds of war, and it told him that some innocent was harmed by this callous act. The anger became clear on his face, and he had to take a deep breath. Letting it pass over him and dissipate. The power hungry never cared who they killed in their squabbles. "Bastards! I thought my universe was the only one with that irresponsible of a military. It's always common people who end up getting the worst of it."

There are some things that can disturb even a Jedi Masters calm. To Kyle it didn't mean a lose of control. It meant he was still human.

Kyle got the picture far clearer than she might know. The thought of what might have happened if they hadn't toppled the Empire. Centuries of darkness under the Sith would have crippled the galaxy to the point it could never recover. It was terrible to know that in some universe people like that had won. Maybe when this was all finished he could help her right that wrong. Taking the grenade Kyle turned it around in his hands and gave it a close inspection. Finally he moved back toward the target range pulled the pin, and flung it toward a target.

Kyle whistled as he surveyed the destruction from the grenade. He had to admit to being just a bit impressed. Her mention of nukes made him snap back around. "We only stopped using nukes because we found far more awful ways to lay waste to a planet."

At the Academy they'd gone through almost all of them. Planetary bombardment, Seismic devices, super gravity fields, and then later on came the Death Stars. Oh yes his galaxy was so civilized and advanced.

Kyle took the weapon and examined it for a few minutes before aiming it. Squeezing the trigger he was surprised by the blast from the thing. Seeing he was shooting too high he adjusted his stance and breathing. By the last round he was comfortable with the pistol. Not near as good as he was with his blaster but it would do.

"Alderaan. The Empire destroyed it. The whole planet. Billions all of them innocent. No one had weapons they were a planet of diplomats." He left out that it was also Tycho's homeworld. Kyle was hoping Gwen would take the confession as it was intended. As a fellow soldier who knew the horrors that a ruthless enemy could deliver.

"It's a good weapon. I see why you are so attached to it," he said as he handed the pistol back.
