Even rulers need to start somewhere
It had already been a month since her arrival and Chao was starting to not only get used to her new locale, but come to even enjoy it. the talks she had with Stacy were enlightening for the most part and she spent untold amount of hours in the Media library going over all the various technologies out there in the multiverse. There was still many things to learn and new theories of science to explore, but for now she just needed to chew on what she had.
In the mean time, Chao decided it best to have a look at the vehicle bay. Which lead her to stand in front of the flight of X-wings. They were one of the few ships in the bay that were in such huge quantities. Still, Chao couldn't help but gnaw on her lower lip in speculation as she stared at the X-wing in front of her. It probably belonged to someone but the nagging in the back of her mind just wanted to get her hands on the machinery.
Damn the prodigal mind of hers.

As he strode towards the X-Wings though, Tycho was surprised to discover he wasn't alone. Maybe Wedge is right, he thought, and we need to get the X-wings moved to a separate bay where people can't access them without authorization. Still, his voice was friendly enough as he hailed the girl he did not recognize.
"Hello, is there something I can help you with?"

She turned her head when greeted and smiled in return. "Oh, No. But thanks anyway-yo."
She turned back around and stared hard at the X-wing again.

Her head turned with her eyes as she stared at the fighter's wings. "I can see where the actuators are supposed to spread or pull the wings together, but the size and design of the wing itself makes me wonder if it can actually perform in an atmospheric environment-ne."
Usually, nobody but Hakase could even come close to understanding what she just said, but it was more of her thinking out loud than talking to Tycho. Though, she was certain that he might have some idea, given he knew what the ships were called.

He looked the small girl up and down. "I'm guessing you're not from my universe then," he offered. "But you're familiar with starfighter mechanics and engineering?"
no subject
Hearing Tycho ask whether she was interested in Mechanics or engineering earned the man a light flush across her cheeks and a nervous scratch on the back of her head. "Not too much familiarity, just a thing or two really."
no subject
At her next words, Tycho chuckled. "It seems like you have more than just a little familiarity, if you can tell that much about a fighter just by looking at it ..."
no subject
Yeah, Chao knew that she was kind of insulting the man's ship, but there was just so many improvements to be made. If they were going to fight the ohm, they needed to be at their best. Being sensitive about the look of ships wasn't exactly useful in dealing with war.
Chao's nervous look eventually evolved in a more pleased smile. "I do enjoy mechanical engineering, though I'm more for mechas and robots than spacecraft." Taking a few steps forward, the martian started to pace around the ship. "Can I assume you own one of these-ne?"
no subject
"Mechas?" he frowned. There weren't mechas in his universe.
"That one's mine," Tycho said pointing proudly to a near by X-Wing. "I don't personally own her, no, but I am her pilot. The New Republic owns the ships ... or at least it did." Tycho sighed at the reminder of their universe gone.

"What do you want?"

Her turned her head and gave Asuka her standard small smile. "Nothing. I just came to admire the ship, that's all. I haven't seen a star fighter in a while-ne."
no subject
Someone else from that particular universe, huh? It seemed like there were a lot of them on board. She settled her hands on her hips, tapping one foot against the deck plating.
"I fly one of those, you know."
She managed to sound smug, even if she had only flown them in simulations.

That said, she started to pace around the ship, the tips of her fingers running along the edges of the alloy plating. "Still, titanium alloy plating, Hard deflector shield technology, Infusial engines which from what I understand aren't too different from ion engines, Pulse Laser cannons, proton torpedoes and even an FTL drive built into the strikecraft itself."
Chao finished her words just when she stood in front of Asuka again, turning back to face the Star fighter. A smile still crossed her face while her arms hung behind her. "That's almost unheard of in a small ship like this."
There was a blink at Asuka's line though. "Someone your age as a pilot?"
no subject
Why did it sound like everyone was from a universe where they were already in space? Then again, it wasn't her fault that Second Impact had set the human race back a few decades. She watched Chao curiously and then a grin spread over her face as she nodded, brushing some stray hair out of her face.
"I guess I'm just that good!"
no subject
There wasn't any smug tone to it, but more of as-matter-of-factly. Chao's head was even tilted as if the ship would show more dimension and complexity if looked at differently.

"It didn't mean anything like that!" Chao asserted. "I'm just pointing out how simple the ship is. All of its design seems pretty basic." At least, as basic as a Child prodigy as herself would see it.
no subject
Asuka grumped. She hated being outdone. She hated being told that something she saw as complex was just simple.
