Across the Universe [Open]
Out of all the locations on the ship, the sensoriums were quite possibly one of Gwen's favorite locations. While the hanger bay and vehicle garage were nice it was the only spot that could take a person away from the harsh realities of what was going on around them be it from nightmares to just awakening on the ship. Plus the fact that the woman had all but dragged a certain Colonel along behind her after he had dragged her to medical seemed to help it being a safe haven. While most people could deal with doctors and all the shiny things they used, Gwen was of the sort that had a moment of flail at the simple mention of medical. Thank her time as a POW for that one which meant there was only a slight chance that, eventually, the woman would forgive Tycho for it. Slim, slim chance to a small degree.
With her hands shoved deep in to the pockets of her brown coat she gave the older man a little frown of a pout once inside of the empty room. "You are so incorrigible you know. That was th' most creepyfinin' thing I've been through in my entire life. Next time you get t' be the guinea pig." Of course a smile was soon creeping back across the red head's face before she took back to walking the space around them. "So where to first? Sunny beaches of some distant planet? Floatin' down a river on a couple old tire tubes?"
There had been a promise of showing off homeworlds, well, at least in Tycho's 'verse that was. She didn't mind showing him Verbena if he wanted to see something from her 'verse or even show him somewhere else. Not a single world where she came from was alike having been built from scratch. "And no more visits t' any medical bays in here mind. Might have t' teach you thing or two about a good old fashioned whoopin'."

"You wanted to see my galaxy," he continues. "Shall I show you where I live now, or ...?"

"Go right ahead, Sunshine. I'm along for th' ride and the education." Winking at Tycho, Gwen took her path come coming up to where he was standing at allowing a toothy grin to slide across her face.

"Okay," Tycho said, smiling down at Gwen as she came up beside him. "Well, back in my universe ... home is wherever my squadron is based. I'm sure you understand." He flashes her another smile. "But," he continues, "when we have leave for a while, are in between missions, we often return back to the capital of the republic." And suddenly, they're standing in a ship of some kind, looking out a large view port at the glitter of stars and the vastness of space. It would be impossible for Gwen to tell, but in fact they're standing on a shuttle. "Well. There." Tycho lets out a deep breath. "I wasn't sure that was going to work." His smile is lopsided, but pleased. Slowly, the imaginary shuttle they're in moves, the faint thrum of engines in the background, and the view changes, as a planet swims into view. It doesn't look so much like a planet though as a swirling ball of vast interlocking networks of light (http://biobreak.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/coruscant.jpg). As they approach closer, it's clear the space around the planet is studded with other ships and space stations and it becomes clearer and clearer that the planet is one enormous city
"There." Tycho says. "That, is the capital world of my New Republic. That's Coruscant." He's smiling, but he also looks a little overwhelmed by the realism of the representation that's being projected in front of him. Hesitantly, he reaches up, and his hand finds that the viewport feels like solid duraplast under his finger tips. He presses his palm flat against the cold surface, as if he could reach out, and cup the planet in his hand. His face turns slightly wistful ...

However when she went back to studying the planet those bright eyes of hers widened as they came in closer. There were so many ships.. so many sky complexes and stations coming or going that it made her head spin. Nothing was the same make or model. Nothing seemed to even pull this many people together even in the Core. In her universe there were a lot of people just never all at once. Never at a planet all at the same time either. Gwen took a deep breath, twisting her head to give the Colonel such a wide grin almost as if she were a kid who had discovered the best candy store ever. "It's lìngrén jingyì! Er.. sorry. It's amazing. How can so many people fit all there at once? I mean.." Words seemed to fail her as the red head again looked back to the planet eyes never once settling on just one spot. "Ain't no such thing as personal space there, hm?"

Gwen's wonder though, the joy with which she was hungrily devouring every view ... it made him look at the familiar vista with fresh eyes. "It is something, isn't it," he murmured. Her comment made him laugh. "Space is at a premium," he has to agree. The planet now filled most of the viewport, and they were close enough for various ships and structures in space to have identifying characteristics. Tycho could name many of them, though obviously Gwen could not, and so he started pointing them out for her, giving names to the sparkling shapes before her eyes.
"Those are Gollan III defense platforms- very heavily armed, and those are skyhooks- so the uber wealthy don't have to share air with the teaming masses." He grined. "And those organic looking ones are Mon Calmari star cruisers- they're the backbone of our fleet." The ships space stations and platforms all looked tiny against the backdrop of the planet, like some kind of child's toys- all except for one, which was standing out in a stark triangle of light gray. It seemed to grow faster than the other ships as the shuttle approached, swelling in the viewport. It still wasn't even 1/20th, 1/50th the size of the planet itself, but it's still obviously enormous.
Tycho turned, smiling at the look on Gwen's face, as the triangular bulk of the ship grew to fill most of the viewport now. "That," he said with something like pride in his voice, "is the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya, and it's the flagship that Rogue Squadron, my squadron, most often calls home now."
no subject
When the larger shape grew in to view, Gwen had to take pause, a moment of hesitation crossing her face as she studied the massive size of the ship. A Super Star Destroyer. Every single bit of it she could see. It would take two if not three I.A.V's to even make up the length of the massive ship. Needless to say Gwen's jaw dropped and the words she breathed out were a near whisper. "Wŏ de mā hé tā de fēngkuáng de wàisheng dōu." Turning her head just enough to keep hopefully both in view, Gwen looked quickly back to Tycho before looking back to the ship. "That's... Ain't nothin like that where I come from. Super Star Destroyer is a right fittin' name."
"Zhēn tāmā yàomìng..."
no subject
"The Star Destroyers were actually ships built by the Empire," he tells Gwen slightly gravely. "We in the New Republic would never invest in creating something so large that was intended purely for destruction like a super-class star destroyer. But we managed to capture this one, so now," he flashes a small smile at Gwen, "we use her for good."
He contemplates the gargantuan ship in silence for a moment. "It takes a crew of 280,000 to fly her," he tells Gwen. "She's basically a very large city all on her own." They're getting closer and closer to one of the enormous gaping holes in the underbelly of the ship, which is actually one of the hangar bays. Tycho starts to notice the tension in Gwen's frame, and carefully, he reaches out, folding one of her small hands into his larger one. "Look, see?" he says pointing. As they close in on the hanger, they can start to see the ships parked inside, and among them are several dozen x-wings. "See anything familiar?"
no subject
Gwen's mind was racing thinking of all the unites and divisions within the Independent army from the start of the war until the very end at the Valley. There had only been four-hundred men and women, commanding officers included, in the 501st. A very, very small mark in the total number of people it took to run this massive ship. If she even had to venture just the total number of service men and women, officers, non-coms, enlisted, support staff... 280,000 people sounded pretty damn close. She didn't say a word though as Tycho reached down and folded her hand in his.
Even spotting the X-wings, that were parked in their bays waiting for deployment didn't make the feeling any easier about the place. "That's.. give or take a few folk that's about how big our army was." Again Gwen swallowed hard feeling totally dwarfed by the ship as they entered in to the massive hole on the ship's side. There were larger troop transports that the Alliance used but nothing this massive ever in the history of her people. It was, however, a good window in to what her people could have eventually become. And that was what scared her the most.
Pulling her eyes away from the viewport she allowed her eyes to glance down to the scruffed up knee-high boots she generally took to wearing when in the room. Sure it was her uniform in a little better condition than she could have remembered it, but it was the most familiar thing that she had in her mind at the moment. "I just can't imagine th' need for such a large ship. Except for fear."

The Lusankya may be the closest thing he has to home now, which is why he showed it to her. When he learned that his universe was gone, destroyed, his mind flashed to all the crewmembers he knew on board, it flashed to all the other pilots in the squadron- they're his family now. This may have been a ship built for destruction, but he mourns its lost, mourns it greatly. But that's not something she can see, by just seeing the physical ship, and Tycho's afraid he's taught her a very different lesson about his galaxy entirely.
"If I could show you something else, anything else from my universe," he asks, "what would you want to see?"
no subject
At the offer to see anything else in his world, Gwen blinked a couple of times before allowing a slender red brow to raise slightly. "You're the tour guide. Feel like I need a camera or somethin' such t' be taking pictures for an album." This time it was her chance to give his hand a reassuring squeeze. "I do have a question though... are there such things as little green men? Yeah I know it sounds all science fiction, coming from a 'verse with multiple inhabited planets and space travel, but really. Little green men. 'Take me to your leader' types?" Sure there were some really strange creatures on Stacey but this was your common sort of alien used in all the old holovids that you could find on the Cortex from Earth-that-was. There had to be some basis in truth behind it right?
no subject
Tycho blinks at her question, eyes narrowing in confusion. "Little green men? Take me to your leader?" he asks. "There are several species who have green skin," he agrees, "but, all of them are standard homid sized ..." He shakes his head. "I'm sorry, I guess I'm not sure what you mean."
Tycho pauses for a moment, considering. Then, "You like ships don't you?" he asks. It's been sort of clear by her excitement at everything. "I have to admit, star destroyers, while utilitarian, are far from my favorite ship design ..." and the shuttle starts pulling back out of the hangar, turning through space, so that the form of a Mon Cal star cruiser that was orbiting next to the Lusankya starts to appear in the viewscreen. Tycho points to the gentle curves and bubbles of the ship. "In terms of capital ships, I have to say I prefer Mon Cals ... what do you think?" His raised eyebrow tries to cover the slight nervousness he feels of her answer.
no subject
Thankful for a change in conversation again, Gwen gave a shy little nod of her head. "I like 'em well enough. Been on a few different classes before, but ain't never seen the likes of these. And yes.. y'alls 'verse is bigger'n what we got." With the change of course toward the Mon Cal star cruiser the red head's eyes were instantly dragged back to the incomming ship. Slowly that little smile of her's seemed to creep its way back across her face. "Seems more natural. Kinda like Stacy, but I don't reckon it's a living, breathing ship? Almost like somethin' outta a paintin' rather than no ship."
no subject
Tycho drops easily into teacher mode again, at her expressed interest. "The Mon Calamari star cruisers are named for the Mon Calamarians, which are the species which make them. Their homeworld is Mon Calamari, which ..." Tycho smiles. "Well, I'll just show you." He shuts his eyes, and for a moment, they're standing in the empty sensorium chamber again. When he opens them though, they're once more looking out the shuttle's viewport, this time quickly approaching a world (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20071220214408/starwars/images/3/33/Mon_Calamari.jpg) colored in swirling shades of blue. As they descend into the atmosphere, it's clear they're heading for one of the floating cities (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090421074957/starwars/images/5/5b/Mon_Cal_city_TFUCG.jpg). The closer they get, the more the organic looking architecture (http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20060605143108/starwars/images/1/11/Moncalcity.jpg) becomes clear.

However when the world changed from the city world to the water world, Gwen's eyes widened a little more. Even Bellerophon had it's little sections of land here or there where the lower classes lived. "No land?" Glancing sidelong at Tycho the woman was soon looking back to the floating city that they were approaching. It was odd seeing it like that- so natural like it was meant to be there and not man made.

The shuttle settled gently down on one of the landing pads, and Tycho turned to Gwen, extending a hand to her with a smile. "Shall we?" he asked. He lead her through the shuttle and down the ramp, out on to the walk way leading up to the rest of the city.
Ahead of them, beings from dozens of races moved along the cities streets and walkways. In front of them, a slightly pinkish red alien (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080907010057/starwars/images/f/f1/MonCals_SWG.jpg), with large bulbous eyes on the sides of its flat angular head, who was wearing what might be a skirt, waved as they approached. "Hello!" she said, for it was indeed a she, "Welcome to the city of Hikahi!"
Tycho gave Gwen's hand a reassuring squeeze, hoping she wouldn't be alarmed by the alien's appearance.

The city was amazing, wide green eyes watching everything at once if it were even possible. It was nothing like Gwen had ever seen before and felt like something out of the holos she'd seen on the Cortex before. Every bit of the design was so unnatural but yet so fitting that it was all the younger woman could do to keep from letting out a giggle. Honestly- a giggle? Gwen would have even mocked herself for doing it if she had. Instead she allowed herself the wide-eyed glances and bright, beaming smiles toward Tycho as they walked in amongst the dozens of races that moved about. Each was more fascinating than the other as were the languages that they each spoke in. However, when the fish woman.. man skirt wearing.. creature spoke up she nearly squeaked.
Taking a step closer to the Colonel she allowed herself a little glance toward the creature that had spoken to them. "Is she.. he.. well is it supposed t' look like a fish?" Gwen asked softly feeling a little blush of embarrassment already slipping up on her cheeks.

They were approaching an outdoor cafe, where beings of dozens of species were gathered, talking and laughing and eating various things that might seem incredibly odd to Gwen's eyes. "I suppose we can't actually eat or drink anything here, since it's not real," Tycho sighed.
no subject
As they walked away she kept herself close. Even if they were just in a fake city on board Stacy, it felt real enough for her. The smells, sounds, movement of the people.. the fear of getting lost in a foreign world wasn't something she was to wanting to experience. As the cafe came closer the woman smiled a little more this time allowing a light laugh to escape. "Funny you should say that. We can. Well.. it's Stacey's slop but it's how our minds know it or how its meant to be."
no subject
Tycho raised an eyebrow. "Really? It actually can states like ... whatever we want?" Suddenly he longed to try dishes from his home he hadn't had since it was destroyed.
no subject
Tugging at Tycho's hand, Gwen nodded her head a little giving him a wide grin. "Yeah! Anything, honestly. Even the ice planets taste the same which is a feat within its self tryin t' get them right." When she, hopefully, got him closer to the cafe where the smells were wonderful, the younger woman raised a brow up at him. "Wanna grab somethin' here? Or you wanna try somethin' from my world?"
no subject
Tycho smiled down at Gwen as he was tugged along. "I'd love to try something from your world." He paused, waiting for her to re-direct the sensoriums.

There were many places she could take him to. The Core where it was more populated, smaller worlds that grew their own kinds of food, or Verbena. Her little section of Verbena had been countryish with the foods a mix of Irish, Scottish, and the Chinese style that was half the way of life. She'd settle for there for now, a small taste of what life was before the War and all.
Instantly the world changed (http://www.rogersville-tn.com/images/gallery_christmas_01.jpg) around them. Buildings in brick sprang up about them where the move flowing life of the waterworld had been. The sounds and smells changed as well with no more salty sea air but to fresh, summer air that held the hint of fresh cut hay and flowers in bloom. All the buildings lined the sides of the dirt street where people on horses, wagons, or ATVs went about their business. Every other street post was a spot for a flag, where the green field, bars, and star of the Independents flew in the cool breeze that swept through. Electricity was something that still hadn't made it to her little town by the time she had gone off to war. The capital and the surrounding towns had it, but that was it.
Tugging at Tycho's hand again the younger woman was moving quite possibly before he could get adjusted to the change. One of the larger buildings (http://www.halespringsinn.com/) outside of what had to be a church or a court house stood by its self away from the closer spaced buildings. A finely painted sign hung to where the passersby could see what it was. The Hale Spring Inn. "Come on. We'll start you out easy then work up to the Core finds."
no subject
Suddenly they were on another world, and the sweet summer air, with the smell of cut hay and flowers, brought a painful wave of memories to him of home. It was not quite the same, the primitive dirt roads and the beasts of burden in the street, but the feel of it was very like the small cities in the rolling farmlands that dominated most of Adleraan's geography. There was enough differences though, for Tycho to not get overwhelmed with the feel of it. Instead he shook his head to clear it, and focused on Gwen.
The young woman was smiling, tugging him along, and Tycho had to grin back as he followed obligingly. He glanced at the sign of the building as they approached, and then she was drawing him forward, through the door ...

It was a comfortable warm inside the inn thanks to the large kitchen in the back that was always busy. Smells of spice and herbs lingered in the air along with the smokey tinge that made up the common room. Gwen gave Tycho's hand another reassuring squeeze as she weaved their way through the room toward a table near the back. Old habits died hard- it put them in prime position of two exits from the front to the back door in the kitchen. Plenty of room to put space between anyone that.. wouldn't be coming through that door. "Mister O'Connell ran this place before I was even born. Good people, him and his wife..."
no subject
They settled at the table Gwen had chosen, Tycho's eyes also automatically checking for the exits. When Gwen caught him doing it, he laughed. "Sorry, old habits die hard. Now then, are we going to have some local cuisine? I'm afraid I'm dependent on you to order ..."
no subject
Green eyes flickered to Tycho, sizing him up a little before looking back at the server. "And two large slices of the strawberry cobbler." Oh yes. It was just a sampling, but it was a typical meal for the woman. Well... somewhat typical. "Oh! Also- forks and chopsticks, please." When the woman had nodded and moved off to place the order with the kitchen, Gwen settled back in her seat tapping a few fingers in time along with the music that was being played. "This is how I remember it before we all got shipped off t' basic. Been meaning t' ask Stacy to show me what it's like now... but I gotta admit. It's one of the major things I'm afraid of."
no subject
"So you haven't been back here in a while?" he asked carefully in response to her next words. He didn't want to push if he was bringing up something uncomfortable, but he was curious.
