The Challenge From Beyond - Regroup

You're the ones who are good enough (or lucky) enough to be close to Escherville. You've had the good fortune to be scooped up and now you need to regroup and get ready to take on the Nightmare King himself. Time to reorganize and gear up as best you can with what you've got. The Nightmare King isn't going to wait for you.

Well, this wasn't one of the blondes she was looking for, but he was glad she made it.

"Nanoha!," he shouted, waving a large red, white, and blue shield to get her attention.

Nanoha exhaled a sigh of relief as Leon shouted for her - good, someone else who she'd been planning with. "Leon!" She called back, quickly flying over to him (walking wasted too much time that they didn't have right now). "I'm glad to see you're all right. What's our situation?"

'Royally screwed' was the most obvious answer, but Leon was a bit more tactical about their situation.

"Roughly everyone here has broken out of the nightmares. The metas seem to be without their powers, unless they're magical in nature. People are banged up, but most of the wounds are more psychological than physical. Which is good, as we don't have a whole lot of time to rest." They didn't have any time, truth be told.

"You ready for this?"

Nanoha nodded - she still had all of her powers, and as long as the magical department was the same way then they should still be okay. The rest of that, though, didn't really surprise her.

She managed a smile. "I think so. I'm going to have to be, anyway. What about you?"

"My daughter is still out there in that mess," and as much as he tried to be all stoic about it, it was easy to see how much that thought bothered him. "So is most of the rest of the crew.

"I have a job to do." Which is his way of saying that he's probably not ready at all, but he's going forward anyway. There was no choice in the matter, at least not for him. He can force himself to be functional enough for now, and he'll be traumatized later.

The smile faded. Believe her, Leon, Nanoha knew that feeling as a parent entirely too well. She put a small hand on the older man's shoulder. "Don't worry," she said earnestly. "Fate's still out there too. They're strong - if we made it, they're going to make it too. It'll be okay, as long as we do our part here."

He was still going to worry regardless, but he was able to focus on the task at hand. He nodded firmly at Nanoha, then cracked something that almost resembled a smile.

"Then let's go do this."

And so was she - but they had a job to do.

"Let's do it. This is what we prepared for. Just stick to the plan as best as we can and we'll be good."
