Lafiel felt completely helpless. She'd assigned herself to guard duty carrying the strange pistol the magical department had graciously given out to her and that's where she was, at the edge of the group, finger halfheartedly twitching on the trigger guard. Even that, she suspected, had been a kind of pity, a way for the magical team to keep security from feeling too useless.

This was not her kind of conflict. She was built for grand battles between fleets, not psychospiritual warfare.
