"Now, I don't really know anything about your life or where you're from. I do know this, however. Everyone has a choice. Everyone deserves that choice. You don't have to become him. Whatever happens... is entirely up to you, son."
Kirk settled his hands on his hips. "I've seen my dark side before. I was a cruel captain. A man without morals. But in the end I am who I am because of the choices I've made. Not because of any destiny or my race or species or birth. All men and women choose for themselves in the end. You have that choice too."
He looked down at Eddie. "Now, are you going to make that choice? Or are you just going to sit here? That's what the Nightmare King wants you to do. He wants you to sit here and wallow in your own fear and apathy and dismay. Don't."
"Captain?" Eddie looks up to see Kirk, and his spirits are raised. The adult Eddie growls and turns to Kirk.
"You stay out of this. I know him better than anyone else. I AM his destiny! Ahrg!" He growls in pain as a blast of fire hits his back. The evil Eddie starts to twist and whither, transforming into a more hideous form. The real Eddie stands poised for battle, smoke trailing from his mouth.
"I should have known this wasn't real. I already told the real evil future me I wouldn't become a monster, and I'm not letting some nightmare fool me!"
Kirk grinned, stepping back to let Eddie fight his battle (although his phaser remains in hand). "That's the spirit! We have a Nightmare King to defeat, a crew to save - are you with me?"
"Like you even need to ask!" Eddie says as he leaps at the nightmare beast, his skin afire. He lashes out with his claws, tearing it apart while it screams and burns. Soon, all that's left is a shredded pile of ashes.
Eddie takes a moment to cool down and catch his breath. The world around them stops burning and reverts back to normal. Eddie turns to Kirk and wipes his forehead.
Kirk nodded grimly with approval. "We're going to Escherville. And we're going to deal with this so-called Nightmare King once and for all! We'll grab who we can on the way - let's go!"
