Wanda came from out of the storm, bathed in blood, barely recognizable as human let alone the Scarlet Witch if it were not for the costume that hung off her emaciated body.
"SPAWN OF WHORES, PRETENDER, WHAT FOOLISHNESS IS THIS?"
That actually was a horrific sight. Though Leon's only outward reaction was to quirk an eyebrow. So this one didn't dream up a dark god, they dreamed they were the dark god.
That complicated matters slightly.
Leon held out his hand, as if telling Mai not to to anything further. Though he also slightly motion towards the right. He hoped Mai noticed, since that was his silent way of saying When its time to move, you go that way, I go this way.
"I was about to ask you the same thing."
He didn't draw his gun, though he was ready to.
"Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. You're supposed to be some kind of superhero, right? Well there's a ship full of people who need to be saved, we don't have time to play around with you like this."
He was going to try to end this without wasting firepower, but he didn't expect to be that lucky.
Mai didn't broadcast her movement. Instead she folded her arms into her sleeves again, getting a grip on her knives. When the moment came (and she was sure it would) she'd be ready. That said, it was a rather disgusting, horrifying sight. Even for a girl who was used to internalizing her reactions, Wanda earned a frown and small intake of breath from her.
Alessa noted the appearance. It did not repulse her like the other two: actually, she was used to seeing much worse things in her nightmares come to life. Her demeanor, however, spoke volumes, which was why she was starting to fortify where they were standing. Leon was trying to appeal to this Wanda's human side, and that would have worked...if she weren't working on behalf of a god. Demons could be talked to, reasoned with at times: gods, and servants of gods, could not. It was the reason Alessa detested them in general: the abused of power came so easily. She steadied herself: whatever words she spoke next was the final warning, and also the last bit if time to shield before Wanda got really angry.
"I am no pretender," Alessa said, her voice colder, "I am a demon of nightmares and vengeance. WE are seeking to fight the Nightmare King. We don't wish you harm, but if you do not step aside, we will engage you."
Mai dashed right, moving incredibly quickly for someone who looked like an ordinary seventeen-year old. Throwing knives shot from her hand as she ran, light reflecting off of the blades as they whipped between her and her target. She was trying to incapacitate - unfortunately, Wanda didn't have a whole lot of clothing to aim for....
Alessa could read symbols, that was for sure. She could also disappear and reappear faster than she looked. In one second the space that she occupied seemed to no longer hold her and she appeared behind Wanda. Vines, which weren't there a moment ago now surrounded the woman. If she were going to attack Mai or Leon (or both) she'd get the full brunt of it.
My. but she got lucky that it was these two. They were definitely useful.
And almost as soon as its name left its mouth, there was something round, metal, and chock full of AMEEEERICAAA, #&*$ YEAH! heading right towards her face.
"Wrong answer."
The bullets and knives hadn't seemed to be getting her attention, so Leon decided to use something in the dream to see how she reacted. The shield was the one that stood out ever so loudly and proudly.
Hopefully it would have an impact on her, in as many ways as possible.
That had pretty much been up to Alessa's idea of usual human crudeness. Of course, if it actually worked, who was she to complain? This was taking longer than she wanted, and the longer they stayed here the more the King got to do what he liked. He was at a point where his strength was rising, so wasting time wasn't an option.
Plus, it was actually really funny.
Alessa shrugged out the way as the shield came toward Wanda. She would see if this made a difference.
Chthon was immortal. Chthon was a god. Chthon was...
hit in the face by a shield.
GET OUT. GET OUT OF MY BODY.
Chthon screamed. "NO! WITCH! I WILL NOT! GET out, weak child get OUT!"
There was a cry, then Wanda's body glowed as Chthon's being left her. She fell to the ground, restored to her natural state. But still coated in blood.
There was a mild bit of surprise from Leon. That actually worked. Even more surprising was that, after hitting her in the face, the shield ricocheted off of a few buildings, only to land right back in his hand.
That was weird... but kind of cool.
But no time to dwell on that.
"Help her up," he instructed. "We need to get moving."
Alessa did the same for Wanda. She was all for charging forward, they'd wasted time, but a part of her was pausing at the woman. Whatever she was, her struggle had been hard, and she had resisted the pull of a Dark God. That was no easy feat, and she was still struggling to get up and keep going.
For that moment, and she would tell no one of that, Wanda had her sympathy. Sadly, sympathy was a weapon for the King and had no place in what they were doing. But she would, at the very least, do something for the woman.
When Alessa touched her hand, the blood on Wanda seemed to react on its accord, jumping from her skin to Alessa's. The little demon closed her eyes, and the blood was gone, absorbed. She glanced at Leon and Mai, then Wanda again.
"We can afford no more delays," she said to the woman softly. "Gather yourself: our fight has only just started."
"Thank you." Wanda was... going to ignore that transfer of blood. She was also going to ignore, for the moment, that Alessa was a demon. There were more important things to take care of. Besides, she had helped bring her out of this nightmare. "I'm ready."
Leon was about to drop the shield, but decided to hold on to it for a little while. It wasn't his usual weapon of choice, and a bit garish for his tastes, but it might come in handy again.
