"...Yeah, I'm... I'm alright."

"You have to--kkft--run. Get out of here. Before--before..."
Before some mortar comes out of nowhere and takes him out, too. He needs to get out while he can.
"I'll totally be fuh-fine," he jokes, because he can't ever not joke.. "Probably take a nap."

Julian wanted to joke back, but he couldn't. He just... couldn't.

"Left messages to my friends--family--to Cassie--on my omnicomm... in my room. M'supposed to--to die--back home. Found out I was s'pposed--to come back--but--before I did, I--"
He'd recorded his goodbyes. Just in case.
The coming back doesn't seem so likely now.
"Tell them."

"And if anyone gives you crap on the other side for not having much of a soul, you find a way to let me know. I'll find a way to drag them out of the afterlife and we can kick the snot out of them."

Kon coughs up blood and now he's panting, lips blue, trying to get enough air, but he can't. His face is so pale; shock is setting in. Tears run down his face on the side where his eye is intact, and that eye peers up at Julian, as he tries to look at him.
"You can't--you cuh-can't let this..."
He reaches his right hand up, shaking, to grasp at his hand, and then there's an alarming wheezing noise, and he can barely talk anymore.
he chokes out.
He squeezes his hand.
The guy that's his friend, that refused to leave him behind--that would have done it for someone that wasn't a friend, just because it was the right thing to do. He's the guy that won't leave someone to die alone to save himself.
And then he can't breathe anymore, he chokes, and gasps, and he looks afraid. He looks afraid, and tears pour down his face on the one side, and that hand doesn't stop grasping Julian's, not until the breathing slows down to a rasping burble...

This guy couldn't pull through when it mattered the most. This guy couldn't save any of the people he cared about.
This guy wasn't a hero in any sense of the word, he was a failure.
And he'd have to live with it.
He placed Kon's hand down gently, and after casting one last look at his fallen friend, he got up. Julian had to keep moving, though he didn't know where he was going anymore or what he was doing. He just wandered around aimless, in something of a daze.
