Stepping out into the world [closed and bendy-timed to before the training post]

Tony Tony Chopper was rarely seen by the members of Stacy's crew since he first pod-popped. But that was for good reason. You see, after seeing what the Med Bay had in store, there was so much he had come across for the first time. So he spent most of his time in the seldom used areas of the Med Bay noting down equipment and drugs and then running off to read up what he could from medical text books. Luckily for him, Dr Kureha had beaten in more than enough medical knowledge to help him easily comprehend most new things he came across.

Feeling ready to face the Med Bay and it's equipment, Chopper decided that he would go in to see if there was any work for him to do. He only took a few steps into the Med Bay when he saw a tall, red-haired human going over what looked to be a medical report. I wonder if she knows where I can find some work to do... thought the blue nosed-reindeer. In general, Chopper was untrusting of humans, but when it came to doctors and despite what happened with Dr Hogback on Thriller Bark, that distrust instantly disappeared. After all, doctors exist to help others!

"It depends on what sort of work you'd like to be doing," Jean said, not looking up from her chart as she finished writing a few notes in it. She had been so absorbed in her work that she didn't even stop to think that he had been thinking and hadn't actually spoken aloud.

"So what would you like to be doing?" She glanced up and her eyebrows both perked up as she spotted a reindeer (seriiously?).

Her eyes widened a bit in amusement -though to her credit, she didn't laugh. "I'm sorry," she called out to the not so hidden reindeer. "I don't normally just listen to other's thoughts. I'm Dr. Grey," she offered with a smile, hoping it calmed the creature down a little.

Jean tried to make herself look serious, but she really couldn't. The reindeer creature was quite amusing. She cleared her throat though and nodded. "Yes, I'm a doctor. In fact, I'm the doctor incharge of the medlab."

She would have moved over to where he was, but he seemed so skittish already, she didn't want to scare him more. "We can always use help around here, so what exactly can you do?"

"Yes, really," Jean confirmed with a nod of her head. She leaned a little to the side, trying to get a better look at him. "Well we'd love to have work with us, Doctor...?"

She smiled in his direction again. Seemed that maybe he was getting a little less nervous. "Well it's nice to meet you, Doctor Chopper. I'm Doctor Jean Grey, but you can call me Jean if you want to."

"Well there's always something to do," Jean admitted. "But at the moment, it's sort of quiet. I was just sorting through the crews medical records. If you want to help with that, I'd be grateful."

She looked over at him with furrowed eyebrows. "No.... Should I be?" she asked as she handed him a stack of medical padds. "You're not going to try to eat me or anything, are you?"

Jean's eyebrows shot up as she watched Chopper transform. Though really, he wasn't the strangest creature she'd seen before. Between her world and the ship? She'd seen way more frightening things.

"No," she told him simply. "Just because you look different doesn't make you a monster. I know a man back in my world who is covered in blue fur, a lady who's covered in blue scales. A boy with a snake tongue. They're not monsters, they're just different."

She smiled and took a seat on one of the stools. "I'm different too, Doctor Chopper. You already found out that I can read minds. But I can do more than that. I can move things with my mind, does that make me a monster?"

"Like I said, they're not monsters - merely different," Jean repeated, her tone calm and assuring as she began to read through the medical padd in her had. Her gaze did lift when he all but yelled at her. She set the padd to the side and folded her hands in her lap.

"And you can change into a rather large creature. Did you see me yell?" She asked, her expression one of pure curiousity. "And yes I can. Would you like to see?"

Jean smiled and nodded her head. Her gaze flickered to the stool he was standing by and she stared at it for not even a second and it began to rise up into the air. As she lifted her gaze toward the ceiling, the stool too began to rise up.

"I don't actually use this power all that much," she told him as the stool began to lower back down toward the ground.

Jean sighed but offered Chopper a patient smile as the stool settled back in it's former place. "I'll make you fly one time, and then it's back to work, OK?"

Jean nodded and then took a deep breath, focusing solely on the overly excited Chopper. She had to be careful while doing this, as she really didn't want to send him flying through a wall. That wouldn't be good, at all.

She felt a slight pressure behind her eyes as he began to slowly rise up, and she made herself focus even more so he rose up a little faster. Before long he was hovering there and with a slight smile, Jean sent him flying around the room in a large circle.

Jean's smile was a bit strained, though she was glad to have helped Chopper have some fun. She reached up, rubbing her temple, trying to sooth away the headache that was threatening to start building behind her eyes.

"Did you enjoy yourself?" she asked, dropping her hand as she looked over at Chopper.
